Sweat shop so he gets FREE labor out of his employees. I thought the owners were supposed to be restaurant owners who paid there employees but NOPE I was totally wrong. Kill yourself working for these ppl 6 days a week from 10am-8 or 9 pm just so every two weeks he can keep every bit if money and not paid his employees. They provide a rundown apartment for the employees to all live together and give u a ride if u need it without asking for gas money but really wtf?? Food portions and quality of food has definitely went down the drain. If you want hibachi from a Shiki restaurant go to the one on east broad street. Service is next to nonexistent. I've eaten several times at other Shiki restaurants, most often at the Broad Street location but also a couple of times at the West Side location before it was bulldozed to make way for a new McDonalds. Had never eaten at this on till today when I decided that since I was in the area, I would give it a chance. Turns out service was "by chance" Walked in about 12:20 and stood around for a minute till someone asked me if I was there for pickup. Answered no and he asked it was a party of one to which I relied yes. Follow me and I quickly got a feel this was not going to turn out well. He sat me in a corner booth away from everyone. One of those places it is easy to forget that someone is over there in the corner. As I was seated he gave me a menu as asked if I knew what I wanted to which I asked if the menu was the same as the Broad Street location. He didn't know so he took my drink order and walked away. 10 minutes later he shows up with my pot of very weak green tea. Yes he menu is the same so I went with the Hibachi Pork with Broccoli. Comes with carrot as a standard side.It's a standard fast lunch item so service is normally very quick. 15 minutes later lunch at the check arrives. By this time I'm running out of time so I asked for a to go container Ate what I could over the next 10 minutes but then had to leave. Never did see my server again. As I told the cashier checking out, I'm probably going to regret even leaving a tip" although I did. I hate wasting food but fortunately portions are smaller here than at Broad Street or Mooresville so in the end, I only left half a plate. Outside of the building is nice. Publix just built a store and it's tied into a row of shops including Shiki or outside has been redone and looks nice. Nothing outstanding about the interior although the vinyl on the benches in the booths desperately needs replacement. While the Shiki stores are generally very good, leave this one alone read more

Called to place a to go order 10 min before closing, someone picked up the phone and said "we are no longer taking orders, we will reopen tomorrow at 11", then immediately hung up the phone. If you actually close at 7:50 then change your hours. At the very least don't be rude and just hang up on customers. read more

So I am giving this 5 stars just because I didn't have a bad experience....I was passing through going back to TN and in TN they don't have any Japanese Express joints...when I lived in the Charlotte area they were everywhere in the surrounding areas (Salisbury, Concord, Statesville, Huntersville, Monroe, etc..)....I always love the vegetables and the carrots are so very sweet!! I loved it because it was/is a quick version to Hibachi Japanese... The meals always comes with fried rice, carrots, and shrimp sauce...if you want soy sauce you have to ask for it...but either way it is good...I got a veggie plate and a salmon plate... My husband and I stopped in to eat as we were traveling. We were seated as soon as we arrived. He took our drink order and when he came back i asked for a sushi menu he looked very strangely at me and said he wasn't sure they were ready to do sushi. He came back telling us there was no rice. I asked if they had any sashimi and was told that he changed some things on his menu that he was no longer making. I let it go at that point because I didn't want someone fixing my sushi that was clueless. We got a hibachi meal which was ok but not spectacular. As we are eating we hear the kitchen staff and cooks calling each other m-effers!! **Important to note we were given our check at the same time so we never saw our server at our table again. A couple of minutes later a couple came in and was seated behind us. They asked for a sushi menu. They were told the rice was cooking. They opted to wait and were given sushi menus! Clearly this place has no idea what Customer Service is about or how to properly behave in an establishment like this. If you are thinking of eating here do yourself a favor and think again. Go to Publix deli as it's cheaper and they are much nicer. read more

I placed a order through door dash and when I got the order it was wrong. The steak which was supposed to be teriyaki was hibachi so no sauce. Then when I contacted the manager he was extremely rude that he personally made the order and it was correct even though I can see and taste it and know it isn't. When he got home he said this was the last time he was ordering from there because the lady had an attitude.. She had an attitude when I called back to let her know our order was wrong.. I'm giving this 5 stars for the food. Honestly the atmosphere isn't the coolest or most modern but the food was on point! Started with the pan fried dumplings and they were fantastic. Got a second order of them. Perfectly crunchy and perfect sauce. Then got teriyaki steak with mushrooms. Everything tasted great. Perfectly cooked and tender. Plenty of flavor. Then shared a spicy salmon roll. Which was pretty good. Wasn't disappointed. Lots of seating. Decently busy during lunch, but the staff was good and attentive. Ate here two different times. The first time, we had a great experience. The second time, no so much. We went on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Our waiter, Nick, didn't listen to us. I asked for Salmon & Tuna Nigiri, he brought me salmon & tuna rolls. My boyfriend asked for onion soup, he brought him grilled onions. We were the ONLY people in the place so you can't blame the place on being busy. He sat in the corner with some girl & they both played on their phone the ENTIRE TIME. Barely got up from talking & texting. Rude much? That is a pet peeve of mine. I get it isn't busy, but to play on your phone in front of customers is rude & unprofessional. Shiki is another staple in my hometown that exemplifies the family owned business that actually made it in a small, fairly rural town. What is so great about this place, aside from the prices, is that the food is reasonably good and made quickly. Often times, to get cheap, fast Japanese, you have to either go to a fast food type place like Hibachi Bistro or Hibachi Express (both good, but greasy fast food none the less) or a mall food court, both of which they make their food in bulk, storing it in big vats and dishing it out as ordered. Shiki is much fresher and made to order, and therefore closer to the quality of a nicer Japanese restaurant, which I much prefer. It's even better that it's so inexpensive. Recently, both my parents, my boyfriend and I got entrees that including rice, mixed vegetables, steak and/or scallops all for $32. Again, a great place hidden in a small town. read more

What is with restaurants labeling their food as Japanese when the food is clearly not? Don't get me wrong, the food had food flavor. However, it was more like Mongolian bbq than Japanese. Honey cooked carrots??? Really?!!? Don't rob people of a chance of having reall Japanese food. Try Tempura carrots instead of a Southern style side dish. Put your rice in a separate bowl. Chicken broth is not a Japanese soup either. Also iceberg lettuce does not have a place in a $9 sushi roll with 6 pieces. Sushi rice should also have a hint of warmth to it and not be applied to the Nori like spackle inn drywall.
