Only critique is they don't have names of pastries so it can sometimes be overwhelming to choose/describe which one I want but other than that highly recommend as so many options both food and beverage wise. Great service. Lots of space to post up and study or do work as well.

Shibam is the cutest coffee shop ever!!! We stopped by today to check it out bc my bf had a coupon. And when we walked in, I immediately wanted to take pics bc I thought the place looked so inviting!!! They also have a nice outside seating area but I didn't sit there today. It took a little while to get our drinks and food but we weren't in a rush so it was fine with us to wait. If you are low on time prob order 15 min before you get there. The drinks were delish and the food was also quite yummy. I wanted dessert but I had to hold myself back bc I was having an early meal later. I'll def be back.

This was a very delightful and cozy coffee shop with a wonderful aesthetic. I loved the pastry with strawberries and cream so much that I gobbled it up partially before taking a picture (seen below). I will most certainly be back earlier in the day to try the coffee - as I didn't want to indulge in a caffinated beverage at the 9 o'clock hour in which I came in! The service was extremely cordial as well.

We ordered our drinks on the walk there and we hoped they would be ready when we arrived. When we walked in the time changed to add about 15 min on which was a bit annoying however we were not in a rush so we calmly waited. I got the hot matcha latte and it was really good. I like only a drop of sweetener bc I like to taste the matcha. I like it served temperature hot (not warm)- and this drink arrived exactly the way I like it. Would def come back for another one. My bf got some kind of coffee w cardamom in it (sorry I forget which kind - I'm not a coffee drinker and they all sound the same to me ha). He really enjoyed his drink. He had a BOGO coupon so we each actually got 2 drinks. I planned to take my second one home but the drink was so good I drank both of them ha. Will def be back again.

What…read moreI appreciated about Haraz on the day I visited was the late hours they kept, I visited on a Saturday night and it was buzzing. It's the fanciest looking coffee house I ever visited, there's outside seating which is nice and the inside is lit up with warm yellow lighting throughout, very spacious with tables and wicker like chairs. It seems like a great spot to meet up with a friend or to visit, find a corner read or work. It looks like a family establishment, as I noticed there were children behind the register, a young man, maybe 10 years old took my order and did a great job doing so! Bravo! I purchased a vanilla hot matcha latte and a pistachio milk cake, the total was about $21!!! This price was expensive, visiting establishment like this often is not feasible to my budget but there's so much more I need to try so I'll be back. The matcha was amazing, actually the most authentic I've tried!!! And the pistachio milk cake was delicious, being a person who literally puts milk on cake lol, this was amazing!!! It wasn't too sweet and the pistachio gave balance! The slice is enough to share or split for 2 servings, which is what I did. Bottom line, I'll be back! I'd love to try their coffee and another pastry and possibly sit outside on a nice day. Please visit and enjoy!!!

Avril 50 was a regular stop in my patrol days and I loved walking into the shop. Always the wonderful aroma of brewing coffees and chocolate dancing with other exotic smells and the smells of fine papers and magazines. It always felt to me like stepping from West Philadelphia into a magical pocket of Europe. As it looked exactly the same, I wondered if anything had changed in the past 22 years and as soon as I crossed the threshold, I found that it was the same - like stepping back 22 years, yet somehow I was that much older. The proprietor was still there, still the same and looking no different - something that confirmed my belief that this was a magical and wonderful pocket paradise tucked away on a small West Philadelphia street. A brief catch-up chat, a shopping bag of fine teas and a perfectly brewed double-espresso to takeaway later; I stepped back into the bright Fall sun of West Philadelphia. I found myself smiling as I sipped the espresso, happy that one of the best things for me in that neighborhood has remained unchanged for others to enjoy and to continue to discover. It will not be another 22 years before I make my way back - that is for certain.

I'm still not entirely sure what the shop is supposed to be but it was an experience going there for sure. The coffee is self serve and there are several different selections, each with a short description up on the wall. My boyfriend and I each got a medium (I believe it was $2.25 per) and loved our coffee. Both were tasty and exceptionally strong. I'm not sure if they do anything fancier (lattés, etc) but I doubt it. Nonetheless, if I were a student at penn and needed a coffee this is where I would go.

However, I've noticed that my favorite sandwich does not have the same quality it once had. I love the roasted turkey on a baguette, and the sandwich came with thick cut turkey breast not deli meat turkey. The sandwich also came with mixed greens and a pickle. Now it is two small pieces of plain lettuce. The most upsetting part is the sandwich is still the same price which doesn't reflect the fact that the sandwich doesn't come with fries or salad anymore. I love Madis so I hope they take into consideration that they had a great sandwich, and it's not bad now but doesn't amount to what it was before.

Ambience was nice, and not too much noise or background disturbances. There's generally a lot of seating here, with ample outlets. I've visited previous times where there hasn't been a lot of free space because this is a student hotspot for nearby Drexel and UPenn. But that's honestly no fault to the cafe itself-- they are pretty much maxing out space without beginning to feel too cluttered and sacrificing the "vibe". Ordered a drip and a English muffin breakfast sandwich. One of my friends also completed the "Google review for a cookie" deal, and we enjoyed a piping hot freshly baked cookie! Overall I'd definitely consider this a place to meet up, or lock in while studying. Just make sure to consider the time of day and time of year academically, as this is a popular student spot.
