It is my opinion that there are very few people who would argue the "fact" that Sherwin-Williams'…read moreline of paints are top notch. In September 2017, I had 22 new windows installed in my home. Since my home is over 50 years old, the interior window sills and exterior window frames did not get replaced. Therefore, in anticipation of my new windows, I decided to sand, scrape and prime my exterior window frames prior to the installation of the new windows. That way, once the installation was complete, all I had to do was apply a topcoat (or 2) of paint. But I digress. My 1st trip to Sherwin-Williams was only to buy a new window scraper, sanding "discs" for my palm sander, bleached tack cloths and an oil based exterior primer. There's really not much to talk bout regarding the scraper or the sandpaper, but I cannot rave on how effective Sherwin-Williams bleached tack cloths were in removing dust, even after I thoroughly used a dust brush to clean the freshly sanded window frames. They were a cheap investment that, in my opinion, truly prepared the frames for priming. I started out using their Exterior Oil-Based Wood Primer ($54.99/Gal), but even though it's their top rated exterior oil primer, the long drying time was a turn-off to me. Therefore, I immediately switched to their A-100 Exterior Fast Dry Stain Blocking Alkyd Wood Primer ($41.29). Not only was this primer less expensive, it brushed on easily with no thinning required and I was able to apply a second coat in as little as 2 hours. (This was especially important as every window got 2 coats of primer.) For my top coat (2nd trip to Sherwin Williams), I picked up one gallon of Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel ($89.49/Gal). This paint is not cheap, but it's worth every penny. First of all, it's water based and cleans up easily. It's also an interior / exterior paint; therefore, I plan to use it for my interior trim as well. This premium paint (urethane enamel) has excellent coverage and leaves minimal to no brush marks, especially if you are using a quality brush such as a Wooster or a Purdy (in which Sherwin Williams stocks the latter). No Flo-trol is needed to make this urethane enamel flow any smoother than it already does. Again, I used a tack cloth between the primer coat and finish coat to remove any dust, bugs or other foreign debris to ensure I got a smooth finish. I've been to this Sherwin-Williams a few additional times and on every single visit, I was greeted by a courteous and knowledgeable salesperson. Store Manager Bryant Lopez has definitely instilled a prideful workforce, as is evident by their excellent customer service.

I had a job that requested i use zero VOC paint and Ben Moore only sells it as a special order and only in five gallon containers. It expensive and covers poorly. So I tried Sherwin-Williams Harmony paint and it was surprisingly good! I have found their other paint products to be good quality as well and the prices are very reasonable. The staff at this Canal Street location is great! Really helpful, knowledgeable and appreciate my business. I did not have that experience at Helms. This is my paint store of choice now.

We ran out of the paint that has been stored so I was told to go to this particular Sherwin-Williams because our information was on file. When I walked in the building, it was EMPTY. No one called out saying they'd be right out or anything like that. An older gentleman slowly comes out of the back after about 3 or 4 minutes pushing a box. He doesn't even acknowledge me. The phone rings, he walks to the phone so I walked to the counter and look into his eyes, he answers the phone and to the phone says "one second please". The he looks at me. Finally. I don't even feel like writing the rest because it wasn't helpful at all. I went in once more with a work colleague but almost an identical situation as to the one above. Won't be back.

They offer a surprisingly large selection, given the limited square footage in this historic store front. The guys who run this store clearly care about their customers and will not try to upsell you. If they don't have what you need, they'll get it from, or send you to, one of their larger stores in the area. On the downside, unless you can plan your visit first thing in the morning, your chances of finding a parking are slim to none.

I recently came here to have some keys made and received an enthusiastic greeting from Kim. She had a wonderful, upbeat personality. I handed her the set of keys, and she was kind enough to color code them for me with little stickers so I didn't have to guess which one was what. I came back a few days later for another item and once again received excellent assistance from Kim. On all my visits, the staff has always been helpful and friendly. Kim goes above and beyond and deserves a little extra shout out. I also love that Mary's is dog friendly. They have complimentary treats and a water bowl for your furry friend.

This multiroom warehouse offers a plethora of bits and bobs from donated and gathered home improvement wares. One time I picked up an old door, an old timey facet head and some hinges. From these super economical finds, I was able to fabricate a garden gate, using the faucet as a creative spin on a traditional doorknob or latch. I love it. Recently, I eye spied, a partially used tub of tile adhesive and several random tiles. They'd be the perfect solution with someone with a tiny bathroom or counter top that needed sprucing up. You can find doors, windows, screen, light fixtures, tiles, wood, paint, and a whole host of parts that you can't pick up at any big box store. Think of the green project like a thrift store for your house or creative endeavor. Be patient and diligent, as it can be hit or miss.

The Green Project is essentially a graveyard of houses that have been sadly torn down and the remaining good parts salvaged which allows current homes to be repaired with the remains of destroyed ones. The biggest negative here is the sticker shock prices of many of the items as you are no longer getting good deals on many of the items which might have been much more possible right after Hurricane Katrina.
