I urge you to carefully consider this before contracting with any hospice provider. Unfortunately, our experience with Faith & Hope made an already painful situation even harder. In April 2025, my mom suffered a massive stroke. She was placed under Continuous Care (CC), which meant she required critical, around-the-clock nursing support. We were told her case would be re-evaluated after three days. However, the care was stopped in less than 24 hours and we were given only 4 hours' notice that services would be discontinued. At that point, it was clear our needs no longer aligned with Faith & Hope's philosophy of care. We scrambled to hire private help on extremely short notice. That night, my mom was in significant pain & experienced agitation. She needed her medication adjusted and an increase of the dosage frequency to help manage her symptoms. The next day, we made final attempts to Faith & Hope to reassess mom's eligibility for CC, even though the on-call night nurse, when we asked, did acknowledge that we were free to seek another hospice provider. We waited all day for a response from Faith & Hope, but heard nothing. Faced with another evening without adequate care, we transferred my mom to a different hospice. They gave us the right care without hesitation. Sadly, our mom passed away only 4 days later. The only positive experience we had with Faith & Hope was with Nurse Theresa. She cared for my mom with compassion, dedication and a true commitment to patient advocacy. Theresa's thoughtfulness and support helped guide my brothers and me through an incredibly challenging time, and for that we are deeply grateful.

As soon as we decided to switch to hospice care, we've been in touch with a few places but Maximum Care Hospice felt most transparent and comprehensive. Other places were a bit unclear about who is coming from where and what exactly is being provided with hospice care. Switching to hospice care was a difficult decision, but we are so happy to have chosen Maximum Care. We had a wonderful nurse Victoria. It was a short seven days but she provided all the support that we needed. There was no judgement whatsoever (my father was difficult) and she was very respectful and kind. We had a somewhat unusual circumstance, where the police had to be in touch with them (due to my father's passing as a result of a crime), but they handled it all very graciously. Equipment delivery and pickup was excellent. They are contracted with a place called St Joseph's and every staff from there was respectful and friendly. We also had a wonderful woman come to bathe my father before he passed away She was very thorough and efficient. I believe she isn't an employee but someone who is contracted to provide personal care to several hospices, but she had told me that she tries to take every job requested by Maximum Care because they treat her very well. When my father passed, Victoria came immediately and connected us with their recommended mortuary. My cousin, who is experienced with contacting mortuaries at her church community, was very impressed how seamless and "easy" Maximum Care made the process. Medicare and Optum covered the hospice side. I paid separately for 24/7 caregivers through Sincere Care Services, which I chose because I wanted Cantonese and Mandarin speakers so my mother would be more comfortable. Five Star was recommended by the Optum physician on staff. Separately, a family member recommended them too, through a friend whose father had passed the week before. I checked their ratings on Yelp and Google before moving forward, and I am extremely happy with the service we got from start to finish. This is the point where you decide between more hospital intervention, which can be painful, and accepting the situation and moving to hospice. Hospice is the wedding coordinator for a peaceful death. Things can still go wrong even when you plan everything perfectly, but Five Star was there at every step to handle whatever came up. The rough sequence for anyone about to do this: 1. Decide on hospice. 2. Line up caregivers. They are separate from Five Star, but Five Star will point you to good ones. I wanted Chinese-speaking caregivers and Mark made it happen. 3. Coordinate with the hospital on transportation. 4. Be home to receive the supplies. 5. Be home when your loved one arrives. Have a bottle of distilled water ready for the oxygen machine. 6. Have the nurse and the caregiver both there so you can learn the comfort meds. 7. I used 24/7 caregivers on 12-hour shifts. I made a point of being there whenever a new caregiver came on, so I could walk them through the medications and get their phone number. Nurses came once a day to check on my mother since she was close. You do not have to be there the whole time, but I tried to be there for shift changes. One thing I wish I had watched more closely was bowel movements. My mother had been constipated since the hospital because she was not eating. Another tip: put together a playlist of beautiful music to play in the room. Otherwise it is silence, or your loved one is listening to caregivers talk and scroll on their phones. Even when your loved one is not responsive, they are still listening and drifting in and out. Tell them everything will be okay. Thank them for everything they did for you. I think it helps them go peacefully. Anytime I needed something, Mark was a text or a call away and he always answered. Again, they are the wedding coordinators for a loved one's passing, and they will do everything within their power to help you through it.

When we found Raya's Paradise, for the first time since my mother's illness began, I felt that she was finally in a place where I no longer had to worry about her health and/or security. Thanks to the caring, attentive and professional caregivers at Raya's Paradise, my mother's physical health has stabilized. The caregivers ensure that my mother 's daily hygiene is taken care of properly and that her mediation is taken regularly and on time. And even though the Alzheimer's disease is progressing, the caregivers at Raya's Paradise continue to provide my mother, along with the other residents, with personalized care and supervised group activities which are both engaging and fun. These activities, which also help my mother with socialization, include singing with guest musicians, brain stimulation games, painting and physical exercise. Thus far, not one resident has gotten sick from the Covid virus. During the state-ordered quarantine, while the caregivers are continuing to provide the residents with kindness and care around the clock, the administrators of Raya's Paradise have now provided each of the Raya's Paradise facilities with a dedicated ipad to be used for facetime between the residents and their family members. Believe me, I feel much better now, knowing that I can still speak with and see my mother during these stressful times. The administration of Raya's Paradise is made up of respectful, sympathetic, courteous and well-educated people who continually strive to do their best to make sure that their residents have the best and most up-to-date care. In fact, of all of the facilities I've looked at, none have matched the ratio of residents to care-givers at each of the facilities (2 caregivers for every six residents). But perhaps most importantly is the fact that everyone at Raya's Paradise is dedicated to providing my mother, and all of the other residents, with the dignity and respect that they so well deserve, in a clean, safe and healthy living environment. I believe Brian Rosales who calls himself "executive director" . He's very unprofessional. He doesn't reply to emails. He only appears to show up when someone is getting a tour. Staff is young & always had a attitude problem and sitting down on there phones when some residents are sliding off their recliners. I can honestly say I met a few caregivers who were nice & very attentive when I visited . Karen i believe is her name ..is one of the ones i encountered with a few times. Shes such a sweetheart and respectful..She's great! But she was also overwhelmed because they are short staff . Another time Their facility nurse was just sitting there & not helping at all. That's ridiculous. To have that many residents and only one caregiver to be on the clock!? But management walks around pressing the caregivers for all these things to be done . Please don't bring your loved one here . Management doesn't care about the residents . You get promised a lot of things by that "executive director" and all you do is waste your money here.
