They nearly always answer calls (which is surprisingly rare with trades professionals in the area), if they can't answer they get back to you (also kind of rare) and then they usually can get out to do jobs in a timely manner! I have used them to install sinks, toilets, replace plumbing through homes and to Roto rooter sewer lines. They are not the cheapest game in town but given their promptness and professionalism I think they are worth the extra dollars. I can't recall off the top of my head if they accept credit payment or not but make sure to ask if that is important to you. There only a handful of flooring stores and none of them stock rug pads, including Home Depot. Kat answered the phone at Swell City Carpet with a cheerful hello. After listening to my request, she told me if I placed the order before noon, their warehouse in Odell would include the pad on their delivery at 1pm, same day. What? Price was a bit higher than online but totally worth it for the convenience. Friends are coming to help move the furniture so we can put down the new rug properly and I don't want to go through the hassle again when a rug pad would arrive. This makes it a one and done. Or do it right the first time! While there I checked out the small, but well represented store. An entire section dedicated to different types of hardwood floor, tile and carpet. A section for paint and all the supplies needed if you are doing it yourself or a contractor. Plus lots of hardware store items. Located right on Cascade Avenue a few blocks east of Safeway, its an easy stop when you are running errands. Oh, and Kat even carried the rug pad to my car! Much appreciated.

We have only kudos for the service we got from McDowell & Son. We moved to the area in March, and…read moreknew the house we purchased had a heating & AC system that were original to the house and well past their typical rated lifespans, and likely to die on either the hottest or coldest day of the year. Getting replacements was always on our list of "to do's," and so we called a highly rated HVAC company to get a quote. The guy came out, looked around, and then NEVER provided a quote despite repeated calls and requests. OK ... on to McDowell & Son. M&S came out promptly and provided us with several options and price points. Terry didn't try to sell us the most expensive system, but explained how the various units would work (all 3 would be fine for our house); described some ways to help us keep the house cool (or warm) given that we would only have a one-zone system, and overall provided a professional experience even at the RFQ stage. We scheduled time for an installation. And guess what? A little over a week before installation date, the area is hit with a big heat wave, temps above 100, and yes - the AC died. And it got hot. And hotter. We called to see if we could get bumped up on the schedule, but the equipment wasn't all in place and they had other jobs scheduled, but they were kind enough to bring out a single room AC loaner for us, which at least gave us one room to escape to at night. When installation day(s) arrived, the crew was prompt. We got calls the day before each installation day advising us when the crew would arrive. The team that did the installation was courteous and professional; they kept the work area neat; all the old stuff was removed and debris taken away. There were a few hiccups here and there (a piece of equipment arrived damaged; our crawl space was a little odd) but they managed around those things. The difference the new, modern AC has made is incredible. It does a great job cooling the entire house (before the upstairs was always problematic); it's quieter; it has so many scheduling options for flexibility. Again, though, the equipment isn't what made the experience memorable - it was the great service from McDowell and Son. I'm confident that if there is a time for any warranty service, we'll get the same great treatment.
