I am a local contractor here in Hood River. I have used Chinook on large commercial projects to small residential remodels and they have always been reliable and professional. Recently we had an install go sideways which just happens sometimes and not the fault of Chinook. Chinook Plumbing is probably one of the longest standing plumbers in the area and I can understand why. They nearly always answer calls (which is surprisingly rare with trades professionals in the area), if they can't answer they get back to you (also kind of rare) and then they usually can get out to do jobs in a timely manner! I have used them to install sinks, toilets, replace plumbing through homes and to Roto rooter sewer lines. They are not the cheapest game in town but given their promptness and professionalism I think they are worth the extra dollars. I can't recall off the top of my head if they accept credit payment or not but make sure to ask if that is important to you. I can't give enough praise for this company. I had a water leak under my home coming up into the water heater. I called Chinook yesterday and they sent a tech out this morning. In 3 hours, he had me all fixed up. He explained what the issue was and what he recommended needed to fix. This company is beyond professional, and honestly, cared for my needs. We had Chinook come out to fix a slow draining problem in a rental house. They dug around outside around the septic pipe from the house to the tank for hours. Then told us we needed to pump the tank. It wasn't the tank after calling a septic pumping company who was honest and didn't pump because they knew that wasn't the problem. Chinook then send us a bill for $1100 for accomplishing nothing, my husband knew more than their technician. Beware. read more

I've used Chinook 3 or 4 times now and every time, I'm left feeling like I've been financially reamed. The guys who have come out are always kind, but I get the impression that I'm paying more into the business than what goes to the plumbers themselves. I'm going to start looking elsewhere. Woke up the other day to find out we had no hot water. Called Chinook and they sent their guy Kip to work on our problem. After some troubleshooting, it turned out the hot water heater needed to be replaced. Kip made arrangements to be there the following afternoon with a new one. He surprised me with a call in the morning saying he'd be earlier than he had expected. He arrived at my house soon after and in a little more than an hour the new unit was installed, and the bill hit the estimate exactly. Both Kip and the woman who I spoke with on the phone were friendly and professional. Solved our very odd plumbing issue and were helpful and professional throughout. After a backup was cleared by another plumber I had Chinook out to scope the line and ensure we fixed the real problem. They found a 3' long metal rod in our line that was the true source. It took some ingenuity to get it out. Could have been a very expensive project, but they treated it like their own and found a way to remove it with only a few hours work, resulting in a much easier bill to handle for me. I am not an expert on fixing house problems, so I called Chinook Plumbing when my 25 year old sump pump went out. Collin sent two guys (Tito and Sal) over that morning. Since my sump pump had not been working and pumping out sewage, it overflowed in the basement crawl space and as quite smelly. Tito and Sal were knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all my questions so I knew what the situation was and fix needed. I am super impressed with this local Hood River business! read more

Chinook Plumbing came out to determine why our Grundfos water pump was making more noise than it should. They were great in being willing for us to send them an audio file electronically which they sent to the pump manufacturer. They used the information sent from the manufacturer and worked with us to problem solve some possibilities of why the only 2 year old pump became ruined. Jesse and Teri went the extra mile for us, pressing their distributor to honor our just expired warranty on the pump. We received a new pump and Jesse came out to install it and replace a water line from the water tank to the house. It wasn't an easy job. His work was professional, careful and he took the time to explain to us what he was doing and how to maintain our water system for the future. He was respectful of us and of our house as he kept everything clean. We are satisfied customers and would work with them again in the future. read more

They were able to schedule me the next morning offering me an exact time frame the technician would contact me and fit me in. We were referred to Chinook Plumbing by NW Natural to hook up our gas grill, and were charged $355 for something we were told should be about $100. When I questioned the time charge of 1.75 hours of plumbing time on top of the normal $110 charge for pickup (also, they were clearly there for only an hour MAX), we were told it was for driving time to/from the office. We feel ripped off and have alerted NW Natural as well, but please be aware. read more

On Jan. 6, I discovered a leak in the hot water tank. My regular plumber was unavailable. I ended up contacting Chinook. They agreed to come out if I paid "emergency rates". The tech replaced the expansion tank (but was not sure it was bad) and the T&P valve. All this, for more than $700.00! On Jan. 18, I then noticed a small leak again. My regular plumber was available and said they would come by for a look and charge regular rates if work was necessary. They came and found the pressure in the expansion tank was incorrect (I had watched Chinook install it without testing) and adjusted it, They found the T&P valve that Chinook installed was 75 psi when it should be 150 psi. It was replaced. (They gave me the one Chinook installed.) All this, for less than $200.00. When I called Chinook to advise them, I was "chewed out" by Terri for not calling them. How was I to know what the problems were? And I did not want to pay their outrageous rates again. I am not happy about what happened. They have also refused to respond to a BBB complaint. I would advise trying to find someone else to do any plumbing work. read more

Booked an appt with chinook to repair a hot water heater. They came recommended by a friend. They did not return two voice messages. Once I "caught" the gal at the office she booked us over a week out. We waited a week with little to no hot water. The day before the visit Jesse called and asked for pictures of the system. After reviewing the system in our 7 year old home (a simple propane based water tank replacement ) he decided he was cancelling my appt for the next day as they were overbooked. The told me later he was simply taking the day off and couldn't help me with the repair. We are now going on week two with no hot water and trying to schedule another plumber. They sent an unqualified individual to my home. They billed me $500 for when this individual, whom was unauthorized, removed my toilet, kitchen and utility sink while I was not home. Over the phone I had asked to have a plumber to replace pipes but was talked down to the "cheaper" alternative of having my main line cleared out. The drain technician could not find my main line or let alone clear out and told me to call a Plumber for which I asked for. I have had good experiences with this company twice before but will never go back to. I'd rather pay to have someone from Portland work on my home. This individual left my house full of mud, billed me for time on the phone, billed me for travel time and told me to ask for a plumber. I was specific over the phone saying I wanted pipes replaced and was talked down to what ended up being a nightmare. ~$300 for a fix the next day, $500 for Chinook Plumbing to leave you with a leaking toilet. read more

This is the second time I have received service from Chinook. Both times have been very positive and they are now my plumber of choice. After living for over a month in our new home without a washer and dryer our new appliances arrived. (Covid) supply and demand. The only problem is we needed a gas hose that would actually fit and a new gas valve at the pipe. Northwest natural gas referred me to these guys. I needed to get my hot water heater lit and the igniter had quit. They said they would order an Igniter for me - that was fine. In the meantime while waiting for them to get back to me I repaired my water heater using a weber igniter and cleaning the Air intake. I must have missed a call from them, since they sent me the part and a bill for $58.00 -- for a part I found on Amazon.com for $3.99. I sent them back the part and the bill and Jesse from chinook plumbing threatened to send me to collections if I didn't send them the money. So, if I could give zero stars it would more accurately reflect my level of content. read more

As the executor of my dad's will I am selling his house for all of his heirs. My husband and I are also working fulltime plus and building our own home. When it came to making sure the house was in tip top shape to sell we went to Chinook Plumbing to fix a small new leak in the laundry room. Supposedly to save my husband and I time and make sure the work was done right. The plumber fixed the leak and left a broken wall and a washing machine box that doesn't even come close to fitting in the space. There is an access hole for the plumbing lower down on the wall but drywall was still broken in the installation. The fix for the broken drywall was giant screws into broken drywall and the original access panel. Terry in White Salmon seemed concerned and I sent her a photo. Then the plumber that did the work called me and told me that that box that he replaced was only available special order and that I could just hire a professional drywaller to come in and fix his work. Because I guess I have lots of money? The box is actually available at Home Depot, I bought the same box for my new construction for $37. Chinook charged me $325 for work I have to go back and re do. They haven't contacted me back since the plumber informed me that it was no problem and I can just hire more people to fix work I originally thought I was hiring someone to do. Wish I could post the photo on here!!!! I guess you can't trust anyone? Even a Plumbing service with an excellent reputation and high billing. It is a mess and won't pass any inspection. I was extremely dissatisfied with Chinook Plumbing. BEWARE . . . these people are shysters! I was led along a path of Jesse (the owner) telling me the cost of a specialty hot water heater for my radiant floor heat system, that I had to order right away to get the good price and get it quick shipped from back east as they only do it once a week. He sent me the bid with the model of the unit. Since I was out of town and very busy, I went with the bid only to discover the next day that model # didn't exist and thus, I could not check it out and verify the price on line. By the time they corrected the model number and I discovered it was available regionally and about $1000 cheaper, it was too late. In addition, besides an outrageous number of hours (with helper) to install the unit, they claimed $700 for permit and materials which I could not see as aside from a few fittings, the same parts were used from the old unit. I asked them numerous times to ID the $700 in parts in a picture? They would never respond. And if this weren't bad enough, I was charged for 32 hours of work at $89 an hour, $2500 . . . for installing a tankless hot water heater.I am not a crank. These people are into taking advantage of people if they think they can get away with it and make more money. And on top of it all, the compression tank in front of the unit was installed crooked and looks terrible. There are way better plumbing outfits in town. Hire them! UPDATE: After talking with Wasco County and the state of Oregon departments in charge of permitting, it turns out Chinook Plumbing never got the required permit for installing a new hot water heater. I was sure charged for it though! The Wasco County plumbing inspector just came out and said that not only have they been out of compliance with the state before, doing work without a permit, but that the installation was done wrong in several ways not only making it dangerous but causing it to cycle on and off needlessly, possibly voiding the warranty. Steer clear of this outfit! I wish I had! read more

I called to have two outdoor leaking faucets fixed. They rescheduled due to weather (I had to call to see why they didn't show up). Then no show on the second scheduled day and then they said that they didn't service the area, A lie because they service my neighbor. When I mentioned that, then he said that the weather was too bad and he was trucks were requiring chains just to get around Hood River, another lie because I travel to Hood River every day and no one was using chains that day nor did I need to chain up to get there. Then he said he would have to charge me $95 per hour with an estimate of 6 hours including driving. Just to fix two outdoor leaking faucets? After multiple lies and an admission that he didn't want to do the job I lost all trust in them. Wasted over a week with the faucet leaking. Called Pronto and was scheduled within two days.
