My van had a lot of miles on it and it was not worth it to replace the transmission, it was dead :-( . They really went out of their way to assist me including driving me to U-Haul to pick up my rental and allowing me to leave the van on their lot while I completed my trip.

One mechanic (JC Auto) took 2 1/2 months and $3000 to do an "improper installation of a new intake mainfold" per the dodge dealer. And another expensive fortuna mechanic (Rocha's) didnt know how to fix the a/c system on my ford ranger but billed $1800 to try (they forgot to put refrigerant in). Calvin fixed it in half a day for under $500. In my 8 years of experience with local shops, out of 7 of them only 2 really shine - Busted Knuckle and Mike's Brake Service. The others are over priced and will kill you with diagnostic fees.

I needed my AC fixed, to get on a long road trip back to the Midwest and they got it looked at, parts ordered, fixed, still found another issue after, then another part was ordered and then finally fixed within 3 days. It was the initial part arrival that used most of that time. It's wasn't the crew's fault. Once fixed and working, it's in excellent fashion and I was able to be on my way. That AC came in handy around Sacramento & through Nevada and I'm not even half home yet. I'm a retired Federal Law Enforcement officer & Army Combat veteran so I don't appreciate things "sugar coated" to spare my feelings. Sam keeps it real letting you know what the issue is, the part(s) you're going to need new & what the service is going to cost you. He doesn't try to claim their the best option but he doesn't make you think & feel that they are going to give you an honest effort to the best of their abilities to get your issues resolved. Next time you have an issue with your automobile just stop in & talk to Sam and his crew. They'll hear you out, take a good invested look into what your automotive issue is and then give you the option to set up for him and his men to fix it or your free to try somewhere else. There is no ego or guilt trip thrown if you choose the later. Please keep in mind that these are the dying blue collar breed this country has lost in the mechanic repair field. I was working on the other side of the country or I would have at least inspected things myself. They charged her a large sum to replace all the shocks on the car. The clunking that the car always had (over every bump) since the repair was due to the strut top nut being loose. That's why it's important to not just use the impact and hope the nut is all the way down, you'll want to counter hold the strut shaft with the allen in the middle. (In other words, the new shocks were not installed properly) They also replaced the serp belt, and within a few months, it shredded itself on the highway, leaving my girl stranded. I didn't get my hands on it myself, but we put a new belt on it and it has run fine for another three years. (In other words, it was not properly installed or something worse) We had an issue with the car overheating and not making enough power to drive up large highway hills. That was tracked down to the incorrect spark plugs being installed. I only have this one experience, but there were obvious things that were not done properly. It's too bad, because her mom trusted this shop due to one employee attending the same church that she did. At best, they are not competent. At worst, ....

Here's what happened: The local Ford dealership told us our tires were worn. 7/32 tread depth in the front and 6/32 in the rear. I ordered four new Cooper tires from Tetrault. My wife took our car to have the tires installed while i was at work. The manager comes out and asks my wife if we wanted them to put our old tires in our car to take home when they install the new tires as they hadn't installed them yet. My wife was puzzled so she called me and had me talk to the manager. He explained that our tires were like new and figured we were replacing them because they were Michelin CrossClimate2 Grand Touring All-Season Tires and he thought we wanted summer tires and then rotate them back to the Michelins next winter. I told him what the Ford dealership had told me and he said, no our tires are just like new. I asked if he minded if we didn't buy the new tires even though they had them shipped to the shop just for us and they were a special size. He said no problem. I had them balance and rotate our tires.
