Prices are unbeatable! Quality is slightly below average, the fireworks underperform for how they're packaged (with some exceptions) and there are occasional duds. The prices more than make up for the duds and you can return dud items with your receipt. The best performing items are the Alien firecracker strips, the firecrackers with the fuse coming out the side instead of the caps, and certain rockets (especially Blue Crackling, and Mighty Thor). read more

The place is huge. The deals are legitimate. They even have shelton fireworks rewards that kick in once you start spending over 100$. Its a worthy place to buy you fireworks. What they dont have is debit or credit card chip readers. So you are screwed if you dont bring cash. Not everyone carries 500$ cash on them. I just brought my card linked to my bank account with my money in it. Does not matter how great everything is if they dont update their systems to take chip cards thus making it so i cannot buy anything. As a consumer it is not my responsibility to accommodate a business into taking my money. I will simply just keep my 500$ and go to the park and watch the fireworks display next year. I found the prices here to be significantly lower than Krazy Kaplans, and they have lots of bins where you can buy individual fireworks if you don't feel like buying large packages without really knowing what you are getting. Pretty cool if you are a fellow pyromaniac and enjoy testing out lots of different items. Also, when I got home I found that they had thrown quite a few freebies in my bag (sparklers, tanks, punks and a couple of fountains) which was a pleasant surprise. Highly recommended. read more

I have bought fireworks here on the way to Michigan for several years. This place has so many different kinds of fireworks it can be overwhelming. I found that the employees (often young high school or college age kids by the looks of them) are friendly and helpful. I am a big bottle rocket fan, and this place has a freakishly large and varied assortment of those, as well as all sorts of other stuff. All the way from sparklers and snakes to massive (and costly) fireworks that approach professional grade. Some of the things that you buy in here, when it says on the package "light fuse and get away" well you had better pay attention to that advice. read more

Advertisements for other vices tend to feature aspirational delusions: macho cowboys having a smoke after striding through the American Southwest, chiseled twenty-somethings in their swimsuits playing volleyball on mountaintops while drinking Coors Light... you drive across the border, you'll immediately see billboards showing a straight-jacketed character in an Uncle Sam hat holding a stick of dynamite. These guys know exactly who their customers are. This giant barn-like structure is a familiar sight to any Chicagoan who's taken day trips to the dunes. World's Largest Fireworks Warehouse! It momentarily feels like life has turned into an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon. When I was growing up my family would never stop there; I think my folks muttered something about a neighbor kid who blew his face off. So of course I dropped in last time I drove back from Michigan. I felt like a kid in some kind of store! It is enormous. You think you've seen Roman Candles before? They have multi-barrel gatling-style candles with special plastic grips. Would you like a little cardboard rooster that shoots sparks? Shelton's carries one that emits a baleful moan as it shuffles down your sidewalk. Want some gallows humor with your pyrotechnics? They'll sell you an exploding model of the Lusitania. My favorite product was a mortar box called "10 Flying Things." Also, they'll send you away with a little gift bag of extra cheap fireworks (snaps, black snakes, ground spinners, etc.) with your purchase. As promised, I thought I would update my review after seeing the fireworks in action. Compared to the fireworks I've gotten in WI, they were much cheaper quality (I guess China is better than Mexico when it comes to fireworks). The basic fireworks were all good, but the mortars were just not up to par. Out of the 150 or so mortars, there were probably 15 duds (including 2 very dangerous ones that exploded almost immediately). Compared to 0-1 duds I usually get each year, it was simply unacceptable. The prices are definitely cheaper, but I guess there's a reason why. I really wanted to like this place, but it looks like I'll be making the drive to WI instead. read more

Sheltons is the best place for fireworks, I've been to all the other places that claim 2 or 3 for one , all they do is jack up the prices so you're actually paying full price. Sheltons has a huge selection, all their stuff is good quality don't believe other reviewers that say they were duds. I've had some of their stuff sitting around For 2 years and it still went off. They also have incentive plan the more you buy the more store credit you get. I usually buy all my stuff get the credit and go back in to buy the more expensive Cakes. this place really is the best BANG for your buck read more

My family has been going to Shelton's as far back as I can remember. Every year for the fourth we go and get our fireworks there. I was there yesterday, the second of July and it was insanely busy. There were people everywhere and I had all the sympathy in the world for the staff. Anyways, so I was with my niece and husband and we made a purchase there. It came to be an amount none of us expected at all like double what we intended to spend and all that when I got outside and out of people's way I looked at my receipt and saw that there was a charge for a thirty dollar firework that I did not buy. So, I brought my receipt and bag into the store and showed it to them. The staff was super awesome, gave me the thirty dollars back plus a couple extra fireworks for the mix up. I really appreciate the wonderful customer service that day. You guys really helped us out a lot. They were kind, professional and totally amazing given the hellish weekend they're definitely having right now. I've been going here for years because it's right off the highway on my way to the family cottage. It is definitely about the biggest place you'll see. However, I've come to realize that the prices aren't that impressive and even the quality of the fireworks is mediocre. I've had much better luck going to small places where the associates will help you and know details about the fireworks and offer better deals. It's worth a stop just to see but once you've done that keep driving by and find something better. read more

I had hoped Shelton's would be more than a big red barn filled with fireworks. It was a dysfunctional red barn filled with fireworks; instead. The layout is dysfunctional and the all out frenzy and madness of the July 4th season causes it to be disheartening. I walked along one wall which was comprised of specialty fireworks, the kinds of stuff younger kids could have fun with. Hard to locate signs with any pricing information and most items were not marked or mis-marked. (Specialty item fireworks like sparklers and morning Glory's.) One sign said buy one or buy ten. I assumed that meant packs, but I then I witnessed people pulling out individual pieces from the boxes! Imagine if you are a newbie to this store and grab packs with pieces missing, unbeknownst to you. There's potential that you could walk out with a box of nothing and be held unable to return for a refund. There were many bulk bins which were disorderly and unkempt. Not enough signage to indicate where to locate the good stuff (if they had any). It reminded me of Silo the electronics store when they had a final going out of business sale and people were taking the shelving and anything that wasn't bolted down. It was a mad house and because it was unclear where their cakes, rockets, shells were.. I left and shopped across the way at Phantom. Pricing on their novelties wasn't bad and this aspect makes it a great spot for the parent that wants some decent stuff for their kid and just doesn't want to overspend. Since the store displays are whack you'll only shop for what you need. Maybe there are hidden gems to be found here, I just didn't. read more

I have no idea if their claims are true, since I had never been to a fireworks store before. However, this place is pretty big and it's full of fireworks, and it did not disappoint in the slightest. read more

I bought a couple hundred dollars worth of fireworks. Several of the items barely let off if at all. Most of the regular rockets and all of the bottle rockets were duds. Staff wasnt doing much when we got there but talking together. when we needed help there wasnt much knowledge about the products or willingness to help us...even though it looked like they werent doing anything. we came with over $500 to spend for a family BBQ but were mostly ignored or treated as a bother. also, the women behind the counter seemed annoyed with having to wait on us. they were annoyed with all our questions. an older man tried to help us at the end and he was helpful but he kept very obviously checking out my cousin and trying to flirt while talking in circles. it was very rude. the bathrooms were horrendous too. i walked in and immediately walked out. gross! all in all an uncomfortable experience and awful staff. i wouldnt have bought from there had i have known about the other store down the road. i will not be going back. read more

Prices are cheap. They usually reward you after buying a certain amount of fireworks with store credit to use immediately. They also have clearance carts with great finds. However, be prepared to get a lot of dubs. It's frustrating. read more
