PLEASE VOLUNTEER…read more I've been volunteering at the Food Bank warehouse near Blacklake for about a month now after stopping by one day to see the operation. I was so impressed with the people, the organization, other volunteers, and the amount/quality of the canned/packaged food being boxed up to send out to the distribution center to give to those in need. And the warehouse is huge with pallets of food of all kinds stacked very high. The Warehouse is open to volunteers 3 days/week, T-W-T, 2-3 hr shifts/day, morning and afternoon and are very mindful of Covid restrictions, especially when considering most of the volunteers I've worked with are retired and in the higher risk category. But 'younger' folks show up too to support the community. The work isn't hard, but I'm worn out at the end of the shift, having worked up a decent sweat by then too. Because I have to drive so far (45 minutes each way) I only go in once a week, but they are flexible in that regard and very happy to see me come in. And if you're interested in dealing directly with those in need, you can also request to volunteer at the distribution center in downtown, but I'm not sure of the days or hours. And if you don't mind driving your own car, you can do your best impression of a Door Rash driver by actually delivering food boxes directly to those who do not have the means to get to the distribution center themselves. Please give back to your community wherever home is. Volunteering is very satisfying and rewarding, plus, it gets you out of the house and the blood flowing.

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and kind, and she answered all our questions. We got to see all the cats and watch them eat. Since it was feeding time they were super vocal and hearing all their sounds was amazing. They've updated many of the enclosures and have added a seating area outside where you park. The also added a memorial area inside with photos and names of all previous cats.

Her boyfriend is one of the main volunteers there and I have seen staff target him on several occasions But I have witness them ban people if they lodge complaints against staff. He does not do this with the ones that are single. I have been going there long enough to know a few people and recognize most.
