We were, and have continued to be so thankful we chose RMAE. Our children have thrived in the school room, something we attribute to the culture of the school, the teachers, Dr. Hudson, parents and students alike. We feel cared for, supported and like a member of the family there. I have witnessed genuine care and customized, professional advice for both our children time and time again. My son has been attending Sandoval a few years now. Sandoval is a little strange. The classes are grouped so for example 1,2 and 3rd graders are all lumped together for 3 years. I did question this method, but the bright side is that it creates some stability in class mates and teachers. It's half Spanish speaking which I feel is a mixed blessing as well. My son is learning two languages but I am afraid he may end up a "jack of all trades master of none" but the verdict is still out. The school is kind of hard to get into, so I think the parents and kids seem to take learning a little more seriously at this school.

But the past couple years they have had issues with Mrs. Mikel. We have never had any issues with bullying, let alone any issues at all. They have been coming home mopey and rather sad most days because they feel bullied by their own teacher. It was hat day at school and Mrs. Mikel was giving the kids a treat for wearing hats and gave all the kids a treat accept my brother. I'm not sure if it was because his hat was from our church or what the case may be but that is one way to make a kid feel less than the others. He was so crushed that "Mrs. Mikel doesn't like him". And that's just one scenario of many. But being a teacher of such young kids, it's especially important to make them all feel valued, and that's not happening in her classroom whatsoever. I am not a person to complain but this is getting out of hand and it's effecting my brother at home now. Just think about how your actions affect the littles, you're supposed to be their safe space, not a place where they dread to be.

Sounds like that person is the only one working off their entitlement. I'm a single mom with 5 kids and rent in the neighborhood. The staff at this school is phenomenal. The support that my kids (and I) have received the past 6 school years has been amazing. I am sad to be leaving next year. The principal, Kent Cruger, knows every kid by name. The things the other reviewer had to say were flat out lies. He absolutely puts every child in that school first. BOULDER is not diverse... that is not his fault. I'm not white, and neither are my kids. I am not rich. We are treated the same as any other family. Mr. Soole (PE) is loved by all the kids, because he is a big kid! Mrs. James (Music) keeps the kids engaged with productions that are also meaningful. Every teacher we have had has been compassionate and kind, teaching to the needs of the individual child. I am a HUGE proponent of neighborhood schools, and quite frankly, dislike the open enrollment concept. It overcrowds some schools and leaves gaps in others. People should focus on putting energy and time into their neighborhood schools, where their children can have friends they can walk/bike to. I have lived in several states, and have passed through 8 elementary schools over the past 20 years of being a parent. Bear Creek will always hold a very special place in my heart, and those of my children who were lucky enough to attend.

I'm greatful for being able to count on each one and know they will be there. I'm thankful my sister recommended this school to me I would definitely recommend to anyone else. I also like that they take covid seriously. It's reassuring. They are always concerned about your kids well being and accommodate to any needs you may have. The best encounters I've had is with Kathy in the office, the principal, Kathy the nurse and Mrs Fish, Mr Ritz, and Mrs Carri.

The teachers are excellent, compassionate, care about every one of their students and give their all to the kids. Our son's teacher used to teach at a Gifted and Talented school but she chose to come to Welchester this year and was absolutely amazing for her class. Not only did her class raise their test scores but they worked on STEM activities during class and raised money for a Friendship Bench for the school. My daughter's teacher was similarly excellent in the way she interacted with the students and they all adored her. The principal is exactly the type of principal you long for a school to have: Involved, knows every kid by name, will sit down to talk with a troubled child and get down on their level, and is not afraid to step into a difficult situation if necessary. She is fabulous and sets the tone for the entire school. As parents, my husband and I are thrilled to be a part of this school community and we totally recommend it.
