Regarding the hugging, I understand that they may be showing affection and seeking comfort as they adjust. Of course, I am happy to talk with them about appropriate boundaries and when it is okay to hug someone. I just hope we can allow them some time to learn and adapt rather than viewing these behaviors too quickly as a serious problem. I am absolutely willing to work together with you and support the twins in following classroom expectations. I would appreciate approaching this as a learning and adjustment period, especially so early in the school year. I want us to work as a team and give them the opportunity to settle in and succeed. Thank you for your understanding and for working with them. But the person complain that the kids have a hand in their mouth they don't feel comfortable. It's a big transition. As any parent with multiple kids may share, children have individual needs, and what was best for our daughter - smaller class sizes, more individual attention, consistent and warm encouragement within a structured academic environment - meant that we felt she needed a different option than her older siblings. We could not be more pleased. What do we love most about SMA? Most importantly, as much as middle school is never going to be the highlight chapter of any child's autobiography, our daughter genuinely enjoys going to school, no matter how reluctant she appears. The teaching at SMA has been terrific. The smaller class sizes allow her teachers to really get to know and spend time with her - and they understand when to nod empathetically and provide a little leeway, and when to gently hold the line and ask for more responsibility and commitment. There is a structure and rigor to classrooms at SMA that is couched in a warm and bright environment where learning and achievement are valued. The fit at a school stretches far beyond academics, and the culture at SMA has been outstanding. Our daughter was welcomed into a brand new social environment by her peers -- often girls who had been at SMA for several years, but who still embraced new students. She has been encouraged to join teams and activities in which she had no experience, and these have been some of the highlights of her year. Lastly the communication from SMA's administration has been excellent. Even on difficult topics, they are clear on what they believe and why they choose a specific course of action, and they have always acted fully aligned with the interests of their families, The values of SMA are not used to constrain and limit behavior, but instead are a structure on which the school slowly builds, piece by piece, students with exemplary habits and character. We hope to be part of the SMA community for years to come.

Our daughter was bullied relentlessly in her first classroom, and the teacher was so detached that he didn't even realize it was happening. I had been worried about her because she wasn't getting ANY works done and was having anxiety attacks on school nights that would often keep her up until past 11 PM, and when we finally figured out the cause, it was like pulling teeth to get the administrators to move her to a different classroom. Once she was moved, things improved for her generally, but I still have enough concerns to cause me to move her to a neighborhood school next year. A lot of the people who work at this school are wonderful, kind, hard working souls and I really don't want to make them feel undervalued. I've heard a few of the teachers are great, but I learned at the State of the School meeting that they have a high teacher turnover rate, as well as a high student turnover rate. The children also seem to face little to no consequences for bad behavior, and as a result I am actually embarrassed to be seen on field trips with them. My daughter went to a Title 1 school before this, and the children were much better behaved and respectful to adults and other children. On our last field trip at this school, I was actually shoved by a boy who was impatient to get off the bus! I did do research on the Montessori model and felt I understood what it entailed. My daughter scored very high on the CogAT and has natural curiosity, so I thought this would be a great place for her. At this point, however, I am concerned that she will actually be behind her peers when she starts the second grade. There was a Gifted and Talented group that met once a week, but they never completed any projects and half the time they wouldn't remember to come get her for the meetings (she was 6 the whole year, and could barely remember what day of the week it was). I thought Montessori students would be encouraged to be kind and caring, but I know of more than one other child that has actually left the school due to bullying. One of the Upper El students even told me that bullying is worse at this school because the kids are "free to get up and bug you whenever they want." I know that Montessori is supposed to be self directed, but I don't see any reason that the teachers should not be clued in to what is happening in the classroom and intervene when it is really necessary.

Our family loves the Eagle Ridge Kindercare! My oldest (6) started attending in 2020, my middle…read morechild (3) is currently in their preschool and my youngest (9 months) started last month. The new leadership - Tina and Rachel - are amazing and just what this center needed after a rough few months when the previous director left. They are communicative and always around, providing comfort when you have to leave your kids. Beyond that, my son loves them both and that is the most obvious sign that they are wonderful. After some turnover last year, I feel like the current teacher roster is working out very well. The teachers are engaging with the kids and me, we get a ton of photos every day, and my son is thriving in the environment. In particular I want to call out the teachers that make me comfortable leaving my kids - Amy, Maggie and Marta in infants. Marta also helps in the kitchen so extra kudos to her. And Ms Audrey for preschool. We're very happy with our experience and would highly recommend!! TRULY cannot say enough wonderful things and happy to speak to anyone about my experience.

I graduated Golden View 2 years ago. What can I say about this school to sum up my love for it…read more Golden view changed me both as a student and as a person. I learned what it meant to have virtue. The teachers are the best people you will ever meet. Their joy and wonder for life and learning inspires me to this day. However, this school is not for the weak of heart. It takes grit and determination to do well with their classical education. But if you commit, you will learn what it truly means to be human. My love for learning flourished as did my love for the world around me. I will send my kids here one day. And hopefully be apart of the Golden View family forever.
