Oddly placed but beautiful and kind of serene for being in the middle of the city. Google was tripping with the directions. The entrance is NOT on W. Ash. Parking and the entrance is off Broadway in the Shelter Insurance company parking lot. Great place for walking, taking pictures, and sitting. Lots of guys walk there. Lol! I think a cop walking there was either checking me out or keeping an eye on me.

Beautiful Shelter Gardens park in Columbia

This little park is absolutely lovely! The blooming flowers in summertime are just gorgeous. It's a small park, but it still feels big enough for several people to have a quiet space. Although it's right in the center of busy Columbia, it doesn't feel like it's in a city. It almost feels like a magical step into another place or another time in history. I say "another time in history" because of the old one-room schoolhouse that's on the grounds. It's a fantastic historical gem, complete with rows of desks, an old wood stove, even a shelf of books and a beautifully faded old globe. This would be a great place for photo shoots, but it's also nice for a simple, relaxing evening stroll to admire the flowers and the overall aesthetic of the park! And if you're a Pokemon Go player, Shelter Gardens is home to several pokestops and even a gym in the rose garden, so it's a great place for you and your kids to get some Pokemon playtime in, while enjoying the great outdoors.

Stopped here during a weekend trip near Lake of the Ozarks. Missouri has so many caves and I'd been…read morewanting to do one, so glad we picked this one. You can grab tickets online or in person, and they have a really cute gift shop with fun little trinkets worth browsing before or after your tour. Our tour guide Lee was so amazing! He's been there for years and years and you can just tell. Great stories, super personable, the kind of guide that makes the whole experience way more memorable. We even spotted a bat hibernating which was such a cool unexpected moment! The cave itself is fascinating and I loved that it was great for all ages. Our group ranged from little kids to people in their 70s and everyone was into it with no problems. A few spots can get slightly slippery so just watch your step, but there are handrails throughout so nothing felt unsafe. Also found out they host events here too like a black light event and even concerts inside the cave which sounds incredibly cool. Definitely want to come back for one of those. Overall I was really impressed and would highly recommend adding this to your Missouri road trip list.
