My water main sprung a leak and Gary was able to save me thousands. The pipe was irregular and other plumbers said I needed a "full water service" from the meter in the street to my house. However, Gary located a shark bite fitting that he was willing to try before committing me to such an expensive job, and it worked! Can you put a price on honesty? We just moved into our wonderful circa 1973 condo apartment in Sherman Oaks and we love it. However, our kitchen sink was also circa 1973 and its ancillary workings were in a mess. That is until we were referred to SHELLBACK Plumbing. And how fortunate was that referral? Don't know if you've had a lot of experience with plumbers, but we've had a lot and most of it wasn't what you'd call pleasant experiences. But Shellback is a whole new ballgame...at least for us former New Yorkers. Their motto "Bringing Honesty and Integrity Back to the Plumbing Business" sounded like just another advertising slogan. Not so! From the initial phone call contact, scheduling, follow-up and confirmations, their front office is a master class in friendly, calm and efficient professionalism. Anthony and David were just so easy to speak to and understand. Then there was the service technician, David, who arrived for both visits on time and this was a first: he put surgical plastic blue "booties" on his shoes before entering our apartment so as to not muck up our floors. He solved all of our kitchen sink, pipe and drain problems, had all the parts he needed in the truck, was a study in skill and expedience, and seemed like just the nicest person. My water heater went out on Sunday morning. Thankfully, we had taken a shower and it was scorching 106 degrees outside, so taking a cold shower wasn't a problem for me, but not for my 3 year old and my 7 month old babe. So I found shellback plumbing through Yelp and I called because of the reviews. I have a Rheem water heater and he (Gary) instantly knew what was wrong and how to fix it. To save money, he said to call Rheem and they would ship out the pilot assembly free, which they did. Turn around time from the moment we spoke to taking a warm bath, 1 1/2 days. This company is the best. Had a water leak coming out of my garage. Contacted Gary and he sent out a plumber. Joseph was very professional and diagnosed the issue after searching several locations. The valve to our house broke cause I thought I could do the job and save some money, NOT! Called late Tuesday night and Gary said he'd be there first thing in the morning. Showed up right at 8:00, looked at it, gave me a price (less than I had thought), went and got the proper size and got the valve replaced with a way better unit (very professionally installed) and fixed the drip problem in the upstairs bath too. With a one year labor warranty to boot! Gary came to my house to do a routine cleanout clearance with a snake. The snake got stuck 10 minutes into the visit (usually that's not good news to a customer). The problem was a poorly designed cleanout by a previous plumber from over a decade ago. The poor design allowed tree roots to grow into the line. Gary gave me great price to build a new, more efficient dual cleanout system that was a better fit for my house's drain system. He and his team were curious, professional and most importantly... worked CLEAN! When I got home in the evening there wasn't a shred of evidence that there was any digging in my flower bed area or driveway. Without thinking, I had dumped a bunch of uncooked rice down the drain. As a result it clogged the gears of the disposal. I called Gary at Shellback in a panic to see if someone could come out to fix it. Gary thought it could be a quick fix, and walked me through manually moving the gears so that they would work again. We did a full re-piping on our house which took about 8 days, but Joseph and Axel were EXTREMELY helpful. I called Shellback, and the owner, Gary, answered immediately. He was extremely knowledgeable and came out right away. He was honest, professional, and did a great job. Hot water heater goes out at our house on a Thursday night. Drive over to Lowes at 8AM on Friday morning because they advertise "call before noon, same day installation". I'm getting ready to pay and they say "Monday at the earliest". I pay anyway because what choice do I have, then call Shellback as a backup because we'd used them on our rental property and we were pleased. They were there at 10AM and done by 2PM. And they cost less! Took great pleasure in calling back Lowes and cancelling the order. Very pleased with the service. read more

Worst experience ever with any plumbing company. Refused to install the correct size replacement faucet. Also, after the wrong faucet was installed water leaked all over the bottom of the cabinet!! Also, water sprayed all over the area behind the sink. Now we we have to hire another company to to fix it correctly! Very unsatisfactory‼. ADDENDUM: Management fully knew about this problem!!!. OMG...an honest plumbing company!! This is a family and Navy Vet owned company whose motto is "Bringing Honesty and Integrity Back" and they truly live up to that statement!! Kitchen drain backup on Saturday. Steven showed up earlier than promised and spent several hours trying his best to clear the blockage without success. He returned Monday morning with more aggressive equipment. The blockage remained impenetrable after several hours of attempts with every tool and trick available. He honestly discussed possible solutions and we agreed on a reroute around the problem, settling on the least complicated route that also avoided any damage to my house. Tuesday morning Steven returned to commence a full day of work. Gary, the owner, came out to see and approve our plan. Gary suggested sending additional help on Wednesday to complete the job. Steven started digging the trench. He then worked through his lunch break fabricating the pipes, connecting the system, testing the system, filling in the trench, replacing the sod, and cleaning up the work area. NO need for extra workers on Wednesday! Job done! Kitchen is back! Steven even returned Wednesday morning just to confirm my satsfaction. I have now found my plumber for ALL future plumbing needs. This morning my water heater pilot turned off and after many attempts to reignite it, I had no choice but to call a plumber for assistance. I then called and spoke to Gary over the phone. I set up an appointment and inquired of any suggestions he may have to assist me over the phone to ignite the pilot. After we hung up I kept applying what Gary suggested and to my surprise it eventually worked! I immediately called Gary back and thanked him for his assistance as well as cancelled my appointment. Gary provided great customer service as well as demonstrated that whether I was a paying customer or not, he would still help. My home warranty gave me Gary's number yesterday. Upon calling him he said he still hasn't got the schedule ready and to call him back within an hour that's when he is going to start with his schedule. Called him back 3 hours later and he said he still hasn't gotten a Chance to let me know and it's already 6pm. Then I mentioned that I need a time frame because it's Friday last day of the week so I can organize my day. I guess that was too much for him because he said call back your home warranty and say I am not being sufficient enough and get another service. And then hung up. Already being frustrated with the situation at home with the water heater or your plumbing. This is not the company for you to call due to the lack of Efficiency In customer service knowledge. They are going to make your day even worst than it is. In my opinion they might be good at what they do. But they are horrible at customer service. Had a mainline stoppage at 4:15 pm on Saturday Easter weekend. Called Gary, he said he would get on it. I live in Lancaster and the guys were coming from Granada Hills and by 5:15 they were at my front door. I was so grateful for their promptness. I've had main line stoppages for several years because of pine trees and the roots are really bad for the pipes. I was told that eventually I would need to replace my sewer line because of all the roots. I'm on a tight budget and can't afford to spend several thousand dollars for a new sewer line. Gary explained in detail that the ultimate solution would be to replace the sewer line, but he offered another less expensive solution and that would be to hydro jet the pipes for a fraction of the cost. What I really liked was that the guys showed me the pipe line with all the roots on camera and when they finished how clear the pipes were...no more roots. I know it's not a permanent fix but for right now I can sleep a lot better knowing I'm not going to have another stoppage in the near future. I told him I would get a second opinion after his technician came out for free to assess the damage. Needless to say I decided to go with Shellback.
