BROKEN DOWN CAR WASH The car wash is old & busted. It's the OLD kind where you pull in and stop, as opposed to the NEW ones like the one near my house, that pulls you through by your tire. So, I pulled in, obeyed ALL the green lights, red lights and the apparatus moved back and forth over my car and it never cleaned the front OR back and only did the sides. Went to this gas station on Sunday am to get gas and a carwash. We paid for the gas and carwash at the pump then proceeded to the car wash entrance to see orange cones blocking the entrance. We parked our car and went inside to inquire and were told it was closed for repair. I then asked why there were no signs at the pump indicating this as from where my car was located were could not see the entrance. The lady who was working was so rude and condescending and said "Hello" " you don't see the cones"? in such a rude manner...then said no refund you can come back in 2 weeks and get your carwash when its fixed....and gave me a receipt. I can't believe you would employ people that talk to someone like this?? It can't be the first time she has behaved this way. no customer service skills whatsoever...I won't ever be returning to shell on lyons in Newhall for gas or carwash!!!! read more

(Pumped 6/27/12 W @ 5pm): Location...location...location! I arrived at this Shell Gas Station in Newhall merely by irritated impatience and sheer stupidity. I would normally fill up at the Shell closest to work, but you'd think we were back in the 70's with a gas shortage based on the amount of cars crammed as sardines into that station, so I avoided and drove on, and on, and on (I passed a couple others along the way), until I decided enough was enough. I flipped a U and eventually pulled in. This particular station was kind of small with three short aisles that housed two pumps on each side, and odd-shaped with unfriendly entrances from the direction I came from, but I managed. Three other cars were there, but I was able to get my own aisle. The gas was relatively cheap ($3.79/gallon), although the station that was packed was around $3.69/gallon. I've had a bad habit of my gas light coming on (very bad for your car, by the way), so I did need to fill up. The location was right before the 5 South exit, so very convenient for many travelers who would be heading towards Los Angeles or the San Fernando Valley. My tank was quickly filled up...with over 11 gallons of gas and $41.00 charged to the credit card. There was no service to speak of. I mean, it was all self-serve. The pay station accepted both my Ralphs Rewards and credit cards, the gas hosed flowed quickly, there were squeegees and paper towels, and I got a receipt. Oh, and I didn't happen to see if they had an air and water station. Parking wasn't/shouldn't be any issue - it's a gas station! If you need to park, then something is wrong! There really is no space to pull over if necessary, so you'd be SOL! Overall, This Shell Gas Station was like any other gas station...purely functional and nothing else. However, I felt like I was being slightly gouged on the gas prices as surrounding stations were about a dime cheaper. I found some value as noted by the prices I quoted above (total bill was around $41.00; no tip required), so relatively comparable. The atmosphere was clean, simplistic, and the location again was good. Keep in mind this was a heavily trafficked area, with drivers trying to get to the numerous restaurants such as IHOP, In-N-Out, Outback, etc. The attire is pure casual, so put on the t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip flops. I just came here for the car wash, which was alright! It was cheap and they offer self-serve vacuuming for 75c for a short amount of time. That being said; I did vacuum the front and back seat of my SUV with the time allotted. I did the most just expensive drive-thru wash option which I believe was $10. As I said, it's not PERFECT but it does the job. For some reason my SUV is a bird shit magnet and I can't keep paying the $25 to get it cleaned inside and out and between all the nook & crannies when my only issue is the exterior and this place got the job done! I had to go the day I went because one of the birds ate Taco Bell the night before and left the evidence on my hood. Anyways, the answer is yes I would recommend the car wash. My backup gas station in Newhall when Chevron is too busy. Their mini mart is small, but they carry all the essentials. Normally, they have the same gasoline prices as Chevron. So if you don't mind having gasoline with no techron, then go next door to the Shell station. read more

Bad experience-2nd time-with this place. Car wash didn't work and neither did the code to go back through again (which was reluctantly given to me by cashier). The price wasn't horribly expensive here. There is a car wash, but I was here at 1:00 am and it did not appear to be operating at the time. The posted signs advertised options ranging from the Economy ash at $6 to the Best Wash at $10. And you can, according to the signs, "Wash your SUVs Even Your Hummers!" I don't know about you, but the random use of those exclamation points makes me feel extra perky. There is an air and water station, though it has a 10 minute parking only sign, and a separate vacuum station Their minimart is old school and gets the job done, though it is not as fancy as the am/pm minimart on the other side of the highway. Bonus: you can exchange your empty propane tanks for full ones here. The location is convenient if you're headed North on the I-5, and you can hit up Wendy's dollar menu on your way back to the freeway. read more

Can someone tell me why this is the only Shell gas station I have ever encountered that doesn't easily accept fleet cards? Every time I use my business' fleet card here, it never works without me having to go inside to the creepy guy. I can't count the endless amount of times I also have to argue with the creep inside when he tried to I.D. me for a fleet card. Sorry sir, my name is no where to be found on my fleet card. Push the gas door button, get out, open the gas door, open the cap, slide my card, enter zip code, choose grade, pump, pump again because the first pump failed (no pun intended), and go inside and ask the lady for A quickpick on Megamillions and a $1 scratcher. I come up to the counter where the lady is just standing there but acts like no one has come in. "Hi!" I shout and she looks at me. "Can I get a quickpick on Megamilli-" "HOLD ON A MINUTE!" "-and a $1 scratch-" "I SAID HOLD ON A MINUTE!!!" All hell breaks loose. The car came out completely dirty as you see the many photos. I went back to the attendant to complaint about the many spots that were all over my car, and he didn't let me go again like most carwash places would do, after all, you're there to get your car clean. Didn't refund me or let me do it again. Then he said he doesn't even use that carwash because it sucks. I can't complain too much about this place because it's so darn convenient. Its right off of the 5 freeway entrance and exit. The prices here are a bit higher than other gas stations, but it's expected because one, it's a shell and two, it's next to the freeway. Also, they have public bathrooms for those of you who are on a long roadtrip. You can also purchased rinks and snacks for the road here. Although their selection is limited, you should be able to find something you like. If you need to gas up quickly while trying to get back on the road, this is the gas station to go to. read more

Fill up in the morning, they typically raise prices in the afternoon before the evening rush. Cheaper prices than most other stations within a close range. Keep away from the top of the hill, drive down a little ways to this location and save 5 to 10 cents on average. (the shell at the top of the hill is always more expensive) Save some money! For some reason I was under the assumption that this was a nice gas station. Maybe the last time I was here (over a year ago) it was. But holy crap this place is a dump. Conveniently located beside the freeway onramp as well as right by a bunch of fast food restaurants, I was shocked when I pulled up to find some of the most trashy ass pumps I've ever seen. These pieces of shit were held together by tape, they were all scratched up, and in general they looked like they had just been defecated on by King Kong himself. But whatever. I've used crappy pumps before. But when I pulled the gas pump out of its little holder there, gas started leaking out. WTF??? It wasn't much but enough to make you think wow, this station really does suck ass. So I filled up, returned the pump to its place, and got a towel out of my car to dry the dripped gas up. So I head out onto the freeway and about 10 minutes later something falls off the roof of my car. In my rearview mirror I see something small bouncing along the freeway. It was my gas cap. I had forgotten to put it back in because I was drying up the gas that had leaked out of this station's shittyass pump. I'll just go to the 76 or the Chevron or any station other than this craphole. Although all the access to this place is really tough, I usually prefer it before I'm getting on the freeway because of the speed of the pumps. However they can't seem to fill up the receipt paper in the pumps. This forces me to either go in or do without a receipt. No time sake here. read more

Stay away from this gas station. Charge more than advertised price. Problem is that they don't advertise the credit/debit price. So that can be anything or change whenever. I'm my case it was 15 cents more a gallon which is about 10 cents more than the competitors in the area. read more

The drive thru car wash at this Shell is amazing. If you buy the "Best" car wash it will leave your car looking near immaculate and it's only $10. The only bad part is that there is almost always a line for the car wash because it runs for a long time. It's worth the wait though because the long time is takes to wash your car makes it look nice. read more

Tried to get $2.00 off the car wash as advertised and the clerk knew nothing at all about it so she goes to the manager and he says it is is the shell station down the street who are both are owned by the same owner. Next visit, I go back to get another car wash discount and the two Iranians guys tell me the $2.00 advertised price distributed in the local newspaper, would let me have if... Meh, it's not that bad. Easily accessible from the freeway, and you can actually get a pump here because it's like the 3rd or 4th gas station from the exit, so the other ones before it get all crowded but this one has space. Gas isn't any more expensive than the other stations. Just be careful with the pumps -- their full-tank shutoff isnt as sensitive as they should be, so you may get a foot full of gasoline. Connie who stated to me that she is the manager and she did not have a boss that she reports to refused to take my Debit-Master card. I asked her to run it as a credit card but she refused and made me and 3 other customers wait for 5 minutes for shift change. One of the other customers just walked out in disgust.
