Attendant extremely rude, racist and disrespectful. My 79 year old mother stepped inside their mini-market to buy a lottery ticket while I filled my car with gasoline. My mother is frail, has a bad knee and walks with a cane. I was cocerned she would slip and fall on the icy floor. Instead of leaving my car at the pump I moved it to make space for other customers. There was no parking so I parked next to the handicap space close to the door. I found my mother inside the store flustered because the attendant was not willing or patient to help her. He was annoyed and refused to answer her questions. When I asked the attendant for help, he Barked I should move my car. I told him I would move the car. Just wanted to make sure my mother was doing alright. A kind patron politely explained the lottery she was inquiring about, would draw next week. My mother decided to purchase tonight's ticket. I agree that the attendant was right in requesting that I move the car. It was not his request but, his condescending, inpolite demeanor towards my mother that upset me. He was barking at her, showing displeasure as if she smelled bad. It was very obvious that he did not want to serve her as a patron. Not sure if his behavior was because of her age or her national origin. I told him that I was sure, he would not appreciate anyone treating his mother or wife or daughter in the same manner. He told me to get out. At that point a young man who had not seen what had transpired before offered that my car was restricting access (not completely true). And perhaps, emboldened by the comment, the attendant began to insult both my mother and I and began to say "you are stupid." He repeated his insult several times.
I have patronized this business from time to time during th past 18 years. And while I noticed the less than warm reception from other attendants, no one under no circumstance should be subjected to verbal abuse especially, a senior citizen. Older people because of their age take more time to walk, speak, may not be mentally alert or fast as younger patrons. But that is no reason to treat them with derisiveness harshness or refuse service. Their money is the same as everybody else's. And under no circumstances, should be called "stupid." Older people deserve patience, kindness. They have earned it. I was so insenced by this man's lack of respect that on my way out I told home him to"go back to his country." I am not proud of the comment. I believe in a multi-cultural country. But when you go to Rome, you do as Romans do. American women fought hard for their rights and to gain respect. And anyone who wants to be part of this society should embrace this way of life. That means you leave behind your condescending attitude towards women. In this part of the hemisphere women and men have equal rights and deserve the same respect. read more
