It's honestly a hit-or-miss experience here. Sometimes the car wash works fine and actually uses enough soap, but other times it feels like it's basically just spraying water on the car. The quality is pretty inconsistent from visit to visit. I wouldn't say it's always bad, because I've had decent washes here too, but just be aware that you may not get the same result every time. If you're expecting a consistently good car wash, this probably isn't the most reliable place. Horrendous customer service and their car wash is a SCAM. The top brush of the car wash doesn't even come down to clean anything, leaving the roof of your car the same as when you came in. With the constant upcharge of using this car wash service, you will literally not get what you paid for. If that wasn't enough, the lady who has been working there for years has a nasty attitude and doesn't give two sh*ts. As a paying customer who has been going here since literal birth with my family, it's a disappointment and true disaster of an establishment. The attendant didn't seem to care, said I need to come back the next day to speak with the manager to get a refund (he claimed he couldn't provide one, nor generate a new code for a cash wash) and offered me a rag so I could wipe down my car. Just went for a car wash using the code I filled up the tank a couple of days ago. After I pulled out the car from the machine, a guy behind me waiting for his turn to wash his car knocked on my window. He showed me a picture of my car in the car wash machine but the top brush did not even touch the top of my car. I checked it and it was still dirty. He went to the counter and mentioned it to the girl working there, and I did it too. Originally a senior worker, a lady, said she'll give me a free wash, with restriction, it had to be today and the same car. Both ladies said "the machine is fine" repeatedly. However after I talked to the person who noticed this issue, the senior lady stormed to me and say "You got no free car wash today, not today, not in the future." "Why do you want to talk to the man (she pointed to the guy who found this problem)?"it The other lady explained to her it was that guy found the problem and pointed it out to me. The guy was shocked and so did I. I have been using this station for the past 25+ years, never thought I would be treated like a "free car wash shopper". The attitude from that senior lady working there is just out of this planet. A simple apology with a simple solution to work this out turned to be a harrasment, and an angry customer. My experience was the car wash does not dispense receipts, and if the machine stops once you're inside, you're out of luck. The cashier tells you to call the manager, Lena, the next day, but when you do, Lena insists she needs the receipt that the machine never provided. Lena says she'll speak with the cashier and call you back, but she never does. If you're charged for a service you didn't receive, your best option is to dispute the transaction with your bank and file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

This is or local Shell Gas station and we fill 90% of our gas here. In the past, there were some issues with the pumps not auto-filling and you had to hold down the lever. For 20 gallons, this would start to hurt your hands. Thankfully they have fixed this issue. I get my car washed here also and have never had an issue. If you sign up for a car wash, you get 20 cents off per gallon. This is also a great place to buy lottery tickets or a soda for the road. My family is pretty happy with this Shell. read more

There's a pretty amazing taco truck that parks on this gas station lot. And unfortunately, the taco truck wasn't answering their phone on this particular day (probably because they were busy) and I had ordered DoorDash and I wanted to be sure they were still open. So I called the gas station, hoping they would help me out --all they had to do is turn their head and say "yes the truck is still here". And the girl wouldn't even do that. She said "you can call them" and I asked " can you help me by at least tell me if they're still parked there?" She said "you can call them" I will always go to that taco truck, but I will never put gas at that gas station. The employees are not helpful, rude and overall unkind. I was simply asking if they would tell me if they're still parked there. That's it!! And they wouldn't even do that. I can't imagine the type of help they offer if I actually go to the gas station pump and have an issue. Horrible customer service. read more

DON'T DO IT! DO NOT GO THROUGH THE CAR WASH. I legit thought I had the worst luck, because the washer stopped moving after my car was getting soaped. I sat there and waited, because what if I get out and the machine starts working again? Hell no. Went to fill some air for the tires one day. Inserted money and thing doesn't start. Went to counter to investigate. As they used to be able to turn it on from inside for you. Employee said broken. I nicely mentioned that there are no signs anywhere saying its broken, and requested to have my money back. The nice lady quickly went to ask the manager type guy, and the poor guy was in shame with poor attitude, wouldn't look at me, would not do it. Asked again and same answer. Told me to contact the air pump company. I said you guys really should put an "out of order" sign on that thing then, even if its not from Shell. Obviously not the first time this happened, I would imagine they get several customer a day. So I am not sure what all the spectacular acting is for. I will eat the lost of low cost and lost of time. No biggie. 1 star for the poor costumer service and refusal to reimburse. For the air and vacuum machine here, use at your own risk! This shell is conveniently located off of the Hillsdale offramp of the 101. The pumps are rather decrepit as it did take a few tries before the pump would "lock" and continuously fill my tank. To my surprise, when the pump "clicked," my tank wasn't even really full. It still had a good 2-3 gallons left at the top! Receipts were not available at the pump either...receipts were only available inside with the clerk. Luckily squeegees were in good working order and paper towels were available. Worst experience! I was there November 21st to get gas and a car wash. As I pulled up to the car wash after I entered my code, the car wash broke. I went inside to the cashier, his name is Glen and he told me his computer system was down so the car wash will no longer work. I asked him if I can get another code and I'll come back later for the car wash. Well, since the system is broken he couldn't give me a code so he wrote down on a piece of paper that they owe me a car wash. Cool! When I went back to get a car wash Nov. 30th the cashier would not give me a code. Then I went to speak to the manager and she was very rude and said you need a receipt. Well, I told her I threw it way after I entered the code and that's why Glen wrote on a piece of paper that they owe me a car wash. The manager said no you need a receipt! I even showed her my bank statement that I was at Shell Nov. 21st and she still refused to give me a code for the car wash! I HATE this Shell station. Sure, it might have decent prices for a Shell but what good is that when every time you pull in, HALF THE PUMPS DON'T WORK and cars are all over the place in a chaotic mess, waiting for fuel?! You pull up to a pump that a car has just left, get your card, get out... and the pump is broke. Sometimes it'll have a sign, sometimes it just won't work. Then you have to somehow maneuver out of the mess, and get in the back of another line, even though you've probably already been there 5 hours waiting. No thanks. As if that isn't bad enough, a few weeks ago, I stopped by just after midnight to get a car wash and their 7$ automatic wash left SOAP ALL OVER MY CAR!!! (I don't normally wash my car in the a.m. but a bird had decorated it earlier in the evening.) I was so mad. There was nothing I could do though cause there was nobody who answered when I banged on the door and there was no water hose around for miles that I knew of. Now, I'm going to have to get a high detail job on my car to get the dried scum off. Picture this scene: it's a Friday morning and I decide to get gas on my way to work as the gas light has been on for a while... I pull into this Shell which is surprisingly busy and up to a pump that has a small orange cone sitting near it. I've seen these pumps marked with make-shift "Out of Order" signs before but there is no sign to be seen. So, I figure that the cone is probably random or indicating a wet spot on the ground. I start pumping my gas. A nice older lady pulls up behind me and gets out of her car to ask me directions to a nearby location. I start to give her directions while I pump my gas. Then, all of a sudden, someone starts yelling at me from across the gas station lot, "Hey lady, what are you doing pumping gas there?! Did you not see the cone?! That pump isn't working!!" Me: (politely) "Oh, sorry, it looks like it's working. Is it not?" Him: "What were you thinking?!" Me: "Would you like me to stop pumping?" Him: (angrily) "Noooooo, it's fine." Ugh! Not a great way to start my morning and, if you ask me, pretty rude of him for no good reason. I was just trying to give directions and pump my gas. Decent Prices! Currently (5/18/07) Premium is at $3.68 a gallon. I drive past this station at least once a day. It seems to have the lowest prices of any of the four other Shell branded gasoline stations that are less than 5 miles from Foster City. I was shocked to see the Shell station at 1990 El Camino (see: ) selling their premium gas at over $4.00 a gallon! Yikes ! ! ! Driving this summer is going to be ridiculously expensive! WARNING the car wash left my car covered in soap. I went through the normal car wash and the sides of my car were still totally soapy afterwards. Not just a little bit: huge streaks of soap on the windows and front to back on both sides. I had to go get the clerk to give me water and wash my car off afterwards. I'm not picky about stuff like this. I normally wouldn't notice a little soap on the doors, but my windows were visibly soapy so I checked. If I hadn't, I'd probably have left my car covered in soap and had it's finish damaged. BTW, I don't have a weird or specialty car. It's a Honda Accord. I'm disappointed because it's a convenient location, but I'm going to go get it rewashed somewhere else tomorrow. That's just sad. read more

This place is wildly awful: it took us half an hour to get gas and a mediocre car wash. Not only do none of the card readers work at the pumps, but the pumps don't work either. So, I had to pay inside and move to a second pump after the first one wouldn't pump gas. Finally, even though the sign said "new car wash", the car wash was clearly old and didn't work very well. Unfortunately I have nothing positive to say about this gas station. Everything sucks from the now new pumps that I went to two and couldn't get gas because they wouldn't go past taking your card, to the car wash, to the tire air. Complete cluster &@$! I live nearby so I sometimes went there for convenience. I stopped getting a car wash there because it's just as expensive (keeps going up) as going to a lot of other better places and your car never gets dry all the way. And you can see that the soap sometimes is dispersed unevenly because of the colors. Anyhow, once a woman with a bike rack on the back of her car went ahead of me after waiting in a long line and that broke the car wash because the arm that swivels around got caught in her bumper bike rack and must've read as an error because it didn't work after that so no car wash. Plus they have directions now that if you have a code do not put it in until the car in front of you is done or it doesn't work. And now they put in new pumps not long ago and I went to two of them and couldn't get gas because they would do nothing past trying to take your card. So when I parked and went into the station I said to the girl I couldn't get gas and she asked something like "did you go to pump number nine?" I said I don't know what pump it was I tried two different ones and she said "pump nine works". Whatever I was done with that. So then I went to put air in my tire and it wouldn't take any form of payment because if you don't get gas they can make you pay for air. Couldn't get that to take any kind of payment -credit card or coins. So I went back in and she said she would turn the air on for me. It made a little bit a noise but no air came out so if anything my tires were more flat than when I came in. Not going back there again I will go to the 76 at Fashion Island and Norfolk or the one on Delaware across from Arco. Not worth the aggravation!! read more

It's right by our apartment, has decent gas prices ($3.11 on 04/23/10), and doesn't charge a transaction fee. They must've dealt with their whole non-working-pump issue, cus we've never had that problem once in the 20+ times we've been there. We've stopped at the convenience store in the wee hours twice to pick up drinks or snackery on our way to/from SoCal, and they have a rather limited selection.. One night, the attendant was asleep when we went and it took quite a bit of knocking/noise-making to wake him. It's a good thing they keep the front door locked. read more

I had terrible experience with this gas station twice. The first one was vacuum that had cracked hose and didn't vacuum my car at all. The cashier was very rude and didn't give my money back. The second one is the car wash that stopped in the middle. The cashier woman told me to get out and gave me another code but said I need to go the line again. I waited in line for 40 minutes before but asked to line up again even though their washing machine is broken. Why do you fool me so? Whenever I get excited that I can get in to a pump without a wait, there is a nice red "out of order" hood over the nozzle... Last night after some maneuvering around the gas station in to every open spot, I was 0/4. You would think I might learn, or at least just be patient and get in line, but no, you always make me hopeful that I can just pull right up to a pump, and I fall for it every time. I feel bad because the gas station attendant was very nice. I got a car wash here and was left with tons of soap on my car and many parts undried because the machine shut off. Shell Gasoline is the preferred beverage of choice for my thirsty car. I dig the commercials w/ the gunk build up, but Shell reigns supreme down in the South so naturally I'm more inclined to pump there. Sucks to see how much gas prices are rising...3.94 regular unleaded! I really like the fact that it's on the corner from Marina plaza. so I can just pop in Marina and shop and then top off on my way home. Bonus points for always seeing the staff picking up trash, the station is clean, well-lit, layout is smart and simple.
