A job stimulus package a few years back made it so that gas station attendants had to pump the gas for you. A friendly lady came out from the convenience store and helped me out. We chatted a bit while I waited. I didn't have time to go inside the convenience store, nor stop at the restroom. But from what I gather, it was a clean and efficiently run place. A prior entry indicated that this place was closed, which is not accurate, as it was very open. There were plenty of other motorists stopping by here, either because of the Portland airport that sat nearby, or just people getting their Sunday started early. It was a quick and convenient stop, it did its job well.

The guy who owns the station is super friendly; whenever I am here he greets me by my name (he is on a first name basis with so many of his customers) and shakes my hand. Luis (the owner), wants to know how you are, how you have been, and is thankful for your company. It is worth coming here. BUT if you are fueling up, there are two sets of prices, cash prices and credit card prices. The cash price is about ten cents cheaper per gallon than the credit card price. You may find a place with cheaper fuel, but you will not find a place with nicer service. This used to be Rose City Arco (the owners of the Arco were awesome too, and just as personable), but it changed to Speedway nearly two years ago. My favorite gas station EVER!

Rented a car during our Portland trip, so sought out the closest Costco to the airport. This…read morelocation was it, with 4 islands, each having 3 pumps, for a total of 24 concurrent nozzles/spots. We came around 11 am, and it wasn't too crowded with most queues having at most 3 cars waiting. All the pumps have the extra long hoses, so cars go to either side, regardless of where their fuel cap is located. I did notice that for most queues, cars would wait until all three slots were open before proceeding (eliminating the need to go around cars, or worse, backing in to parallel park on a middle spot). Once it was our turn, we got the middle spot. Using the citi costco card meant one tap is all it took to validate membership and provide payment method. And we only had to pump 5 gallons so was done quickly. We did leave first, going around the first car, but didn't bother looking to see if the next car in line would try to parallel park into our just vacated spot. Also didn't notice if there was a full-service lane (remembering that until 2023, this was the only way to pump gas in Oregon).

The folks here are all really nice, and always have dog treats for my pug. Love my dog and I'll love your business... I'm an easy customer! Customers can save a whole lot of money by signing up for the Fred Meyer rewards card. I regularly save 0.40-0.50 cents a gallon, and with prices of fuel fluctuating like crazy, I'll take all take all the savings I can get. The attendants consistently ask for fuel reward info before pumping, which incredibly helpful because I know I would always forget. Simply share your telephone number with the attendant if you don't have your card handy. There are six lanes at this location, with a few having changed to self-serve with state regulations changing earlier this year. The self-serve lanes tend to take a little longer if cars are lining up, so I don't mind letting the folks pump my fuel for me. Besides, this is a very well-staffed location that always has three or four attendants hustling and bustling around the station. I'm impressed with the staff's commitment to friendliness and efficiency, Fred Meyer seems to do a great job hiring 5-star employees!

This time around, I was coming in from Sauvie Island and needed a little help finding one from that direction. The car map directed me to a relatively expensive Union 76, of which I passed JL Mini Mart on the way. I turned around, pulled in, and filled it up. It wasn't the cheapest I'd seem, but it was good enough. The only inconvenience was that the pump required me to declare an amount, of which I guessed incorrectly the 1st time. And now that it's legal to pump your own gas in Oregon, this experience was all of my doing.

There is an attendant that waits by the pumps to take gas payment and fill up your tank. This attendant does it all. You do not have to get out of your car. When I went, I was nice and warm in my car. It had snowed a little bit the day before. It was chilly and wet that day. The poor attendant took my card and filled up my tank. He was courteous and I appreciated the fact that I didn't have to get out to pump my gas. Thank you attendant! Plus, the gas was cheap!

PDX is not Indianapolis or Des Moines where there's a gas station across the street from the Airport. But there are a number gas stations (like Tuan's 76) that are close and convenient enough and basically on the way. I was surprised to see gas prices that are higher than many places in Northern California. Yet, at $11 to top off the tank, that was small potatoes compared to a Alamo fuel charge.
