As I was taking a plastic bottle of aloe vera from the fridge--a plastic bottle, not fine crystal--it slipped from my hand and landed on the floor. No spill, no crack, no drama. I picked it up and put it back because, you know, I'm a functional adult with basic decency. Then some employee materializes out of nowhere like he was monitoring the fridge via drone and asks me which item I dropped so they could "take it to the back" because it's now apparently a damaged item. Since when did gas stations start treating dropped PLASTIC bottles like biohazards? Do they think it got emotional damage? Fine. Whatever. I grab a different drink and head to the counter. The woman ringing me up scans everything and then, with the kind of smug authority typically reserved for TSA agents, tells me they "usually charge customers for damaged items," but she'd let it go this time. Oh, how generous. I laughed in her face and walked out. This place is giving sketchy. Are they guilt-tripping customers into paying for items and then pocketing them later? Wouldn't be surprised. Either way, it's a gas station--not the Ritz. Act accordingly. Avoid this place unless you enjoy being interrogated like a suspect for daring to shop clumsily.
