The kitchen was a great place to cook and hang out! There were not usually more than 20 guest at a time, so it was a very cozy experience. Most guests would stay for a few nights to a week. It's a bit rustic, but the hiking is incredible. I miss the Adirondacks often. The food served is dependent on the summertime cooks (breakfast and dinner), and then lunch is always hiking sandwich bagged lunches that campers assemble themselves. There is an indoor and outdoor shower that guests share, as far as I can remember. There are many different levels of hikes in the area--high peaks and low peaks. Don't expect switchbacks like on the west coast, though. There is a ton of history associated with the camp too (Freud was a camper)--it's worth a trip for sure!

Kel is probably one of the only people in the world to hold both IFMGA certification and a PhD. Kel was highly competent, experienced, and knowledgeable about the discipline of ice climbing as well as the local area. He tailored the experience to meet my educational goals in addition to putting together a great day of ice climbing. We did 8-10 pitches with plenty of time for instruction, lunch, and debriefing, even on a short winter day. In the past I was hesitant to hire guides, but I've found working with them to be highly valuable and a great way to find/fix areas where I have conscious and unconscious incompetence. Kel offers a great service for clients who have existing experience in their discipline (rock/ice/alpine/etc) and want to dive deeper or go bigger.

Anyway, my friend initially tried to plan a guided trip up mount Washington and got quoted from a couple guide services. One was way out of our budget and the other never got back to us so she kept looking and found Adventure Spirit. They were super prompt friendly and helpful and answered any questions we had. We did two days with Josh and Cory and didn't really know what the first day entailed but that was because they tailored it to what we wanted to accomplish. The whole experience was very custom which I loved and they provided us with rental gear for the weekend. You could tell that they were focused on us enjoying our trip but their main priority was safety which in my opinion is the best thing you can look for in a guide service. They even took spontaneous pictures of us without us asking and emailed them to us which was so nice and unexpected. Josh and Cory did their best to keep the 7 members of our group together but eventually we split into two groups which was much better in my eyes because of varying ability level and speed. I felt like we were much more prepared than other guided groups we saw on the mountain likely due to the first day learning about the gear. I would have loved the trip either way but having awesome guides was the icing on the cake to an amazing experience. You could tell they both loved their jobs and worked very well with the owner Kel. I'm totally hooked and can't wait to book more trips with Adventure Spirit.

I was…read morelooking for a review to write for the Island Line Rail Trail, but this seems to be the same thing. From a runner's perspective, I don't search for bike paths to run, to let the cyclists have their routes, so I searched for best runs in Burlington and found the Island Line Rail Trail. What a gem! There are some parts where you are running through neighborhoods, but it's relatively well labeled so you don't get confused, like some other paths in the area. After you run or bike past Airport Park to the gravel portion and marble causeway, you'll reach what's arguably the most picturesque portion of the path to see beautiful views of Lake Champlain. When you get into the Colchester Causeway, you're in the lake - going for a few miles, until you reach a gap. If you care to do so for a small fee, take a short bike ferry and continue along for about another mile. Then, turn around and go back. You'll see neighborhoods and parks, cross the Winooski River on a picturesque bridge, possibly see wildlife like egrets (beautiful!) and herons and even a bald eagle (locals told me about the eagles). Different parts help you see the Lake, but also to just see Burlington's green spaces. Part of this path is run during the Vermont City Marathon, if you look down in the southern portion of the trail, you can see the markings. Even if you're not a runner, this is such a treat for someone who lives here or is visiting - because it's hard to get lost, you don't really need a map, and it's a good long 13 or so miles to just be in nature. So, just find the nearest connection to where you are and get onto the path - you'll enjoy it, wherever and for however long your journey.

Cute and tiny little spot in a more rural area…read more My friend showed me this place while we were in the Burlington area. We only made a quick stop and grabbed some photos. If you are a photography buff, I would recommend stopping here to take some pics. I'm a novice trying to learn how to use a real camera, but it was fun to snap a few shots. If you like history, check out the sign about the Mills at Shelburne Falls. It is a very peaceful and serene setting. It was great to have a zen moment and listen to the rushing waters.

This is the main attraction and center of Lake Placid. I came in November so the lake wasn't frozen…read moreover yet. If you come when it's frozen, you can ice skate or tobagganing ($5 for kids and double the cost for adults). They have a 30 foot ramp/chute that tobaggans can go on. It looks scary to me but I am sure it's fun for those adrenaline junkies and brave tobagganers. In the summer you can canoe, kayak, or stand-up paddle-board. Ironman competitions take place here too. There are fun ducks and seagulls to look at around the lake. It was more boring during the time that I came since it was too late for summer lake activities and too early for winter lake activities.
