I had…read morepreviously had a C-section, and my hope was to have a natural birth and avoid another cesarean recovery--but I didn't even know if that was possible. Through my doulas, I learned about VBAC and finally felt empowered to explore that option. Because I have hip dysplasia, I was hesitant and unsure if my body would allow it. From the very beginning, they offered support, knowledge, and reassurance that helped me feel confident and open-minded to try something new, knowing I wouldn't be alone no matter how things unfolded. Despite the challenges I faced--including a 36-hour labor and moments where my hip dysplasia became difficult again--they were there every step of the way. They provided constant reassurance, emotional support, and hands-on physical comfort through massage and positioning that I truly couldn't imagine laboring without. In the end, I achieved my goal of a natural birth--something I never thought was possible. If I could go back, I would absolutely have hired a doula for my first birth as well. Not only did they support me, but they were also an incredible support system for my husband, guiding him on how to best help me and ensuring we were both nourished, informed, and prepared. Their care didn't stop after birth. Because I had challenges with breastfeeding, they made sure I received the lactation support I needed, while also checking in on both me and my baby. They truly went the extra mile to make sure I felt confident, supported, and cared for in those early postpartum days. Knowledge truly is power, and having that made all the difference. If you are considering a doula, I cannot recommend this team enough. They gave me an experience I will forever be grateful for.

The education in this program made a huge impact on my birth experience, and the meeting helped my work through my previous birth traumas from my first borns birth. Because of the prep and education I received through MBB, I was able to have a redemptive, uncomplicated, successful unmedicated birth. The tools, mindset shifts, and practical knowledge I gained played a major role in my empowering experience and I'm beyond grateful for this course and the confidence it gave me. Shout out to Shiela, Sophia, Jamie, and Corrine for the great insight and support you gave me prior to labor. Brooke hung on the phone and advised us while I labored, and Kaitlyn met us at the hospital just in time for baby's delivery. I appreciated her knowledge and communication during the hospital chaos. 10/10 recommend EVERYONE works with a doula!! And, Modesto Birth & Beyond is a great choice if you're in their service areas.

After attending a childbirth preparation class at my hospital less than two months before my due date, I began to worry about how unprepared I was and became anxious when thinking about childbirth and the pain associated with it. After meeting with Teri and Susan, we immediately knew that having a doula with us was something we needed. My due date was approaching rapidly, but we were able to do a total of three childbirth education classes, one group class in Modesto and two in home classes. I felt more and more assured after each class. By the end of the third class my anxiety had been replaced by confidence. Teri came to our house the morning that I went into labor and assisted me through each contraction as I labored at home. Still by my side in the delivery room, she used acupressure and aromatherapy which helped tremendously even during the most intense contractions. Back at home with a brand new baby, the postpartum doula services with Jennifer and Susan were exceedingly helpful for us. I had also opted for placenta encapsulation and the postpartum care basket, both of which made my postpartum recovery and healing easier. Looking back, as we often do, we couldn't imagine our birth experience without the caring and experienced support of the doulas at Modesto Doula Group!

Other people might receive the same exact service but rate it 4 or 5 stars. I felt that the postpartum doula, Susan, could have been more open and supportive of my personal parenting style and desires, but it seemed like she thought there was one good way of parenting an 8-week old baby - the rigid schedule your baby for your convenience as soon as possible way, which isn't my philosophy but I know tons of people do want that. I also thought she needed to take more care and consideration regarding her baby wearing advice because although babies bodies are very flexible, there are safety concerns especially regarding their hips, neck, and nose that she did not properly address when telling me not to over think placing my baby in my ring sling.

She makes it so personal and never like "a product" and we are thrilled. She was extremely accommodating and super responsive. It really made a tough situation feel amazing. I wasn't sold on the idea because I'm not someone who likes to be super vulnerable in front of people I don't know - little did I know how much birth would change that. Makayla met with my husband and I several times before our birth preparing a plan, as well as a few FaceTime calls the week of my birth to make sure I was ready and prepared. She was no stranger by the time birth came around. She listened to me and answered the 10,000 questions I had (that number is not an exaggeration I asked so many questions). She never made me feel bad for asking so many questions and gave clear and thoughtful insight to everything I asked. She made sure my husband felt heard and his questions were answered too, which was important to me because I wanted this to be his birth experience too. When the day finally arrived my labor ended up being incredibly fast so a lot of what we planned for was not necessary, however Makayla still gave me 100% support and really coached me through my birth. It really is the most incredible experience and I am so glad we hired a doula (specifically Makayla) because she was a vital part of my birth team and what made my birth experience one that I still can't stop talking or thinking about. She came to my house to visit postpartum and again answered all my questions, let me talk through the birth experience, and even helped me get my baby wearing wrap setup and taught me how to use it properly. I'm so grateful for Makayla and her services. If you are looking for a doula I highly recommend you look no further! She should absolutely be part of your birth team.

Brea was our birth doula and she was an incredibly important part of our birth experience…read more This was my first pregnancy. I don't have much family locally, so it was just me and my partner. I've also got a history of some anxiety, among other things. As the weeks ticked down closer to my due date, my worry and fear about the actual process of having a baby was ratcheting through the roof. I knew I didn't want to be 'alone' in the delivery room with an ob/gyn I'd never met before and my partner, who is wonderful and lovely but totally inexperienced in childbirth. I knew about doulas and I knew that they provided support for birthing moms, but I also had a stereotype in my mind of someone who would just be whispering woo-woo affirmations at me and telling me that science isn't real. I was also nervous beforehand that I'd be throwing money at something that wasn't really going to help me, my partner, or my baby. I'm sure that stereotype doula exists somewhere (sorry!) but Brea isn't it. And I didn't waste a single cent. Brea's rates include multiple prenatal visits as well as a postpartum visit, plus the entire on-call time and delivery. For all the time that you get with her, it is well worth her quoted rates. I can't afford to pay her double or triple what I did, but I would. Seriously. Brea has a ton of information and skills at her disposal. --She's certified as a doula and she's very professional and direct in how she delivers information about prenatal care, mental/emotional preparation, physical exercises, medical terminology, and the birth experience itself. --She'll walk you through the pros and cons of pretty much every decision about labor & delivery that you could possibly have to make, but ultimately, the decision for how to proceed is yours. --She is educated in Spinning Babies techniques and rebozo work. --She uses everything from guided meditations to aromatherapy to massage to TENS to get you relaxed (whatever that looks like for you). --She has a contact in town for pretty much everything you could want as a pre- or post-natal person (prenatal massage therapist, chiropractors, acupuncture, baby-wearing guru, women's health physical therapist, postpartum depression group support, mental health professionals, --etc.) --She's very responsive via email, phone call, and text even when she's not officially 'on call' for your birth. --She can read the room and tailor her knowledge to fit your needs. If your partner (like mine) is both very quiet and very unsure about what to do with their laboring wife, she will show and tell them how to support the laboring partner and then hold space for them to do so. Most importantly, once you have had a conversation with her about how you envision your birth and the goals you've set, she will support you wholeheartedly in achieving that. She seems to have a positive relationship with several of the medical professionals that she's worked with at Salem Health Hospital and while I was there, I felt like she was working seamlessly with them and with my partner to support me. My brain went to a dark, dark place during the later stages of labor. Brea was there for the whole time helping me refocus and helping my partner help me cope. Because I had an advocate with me in the room, I was able to stick to my original birth plan and ended up with a pretty short labor for a first-timer and a very health, happy baby afterwards. Hire her. You won't regret it.

Kara comes with a strong background in nutrition support and childbirth education. Not only is she a postpartum doula and a birth doula, she also teaches classes on nutrition for pregnancy and postpartum, which is so crucial in one's personal journey of pregnancy. In addition, Kara offers meal preparation to pregnant and postpartum families, in which she will customize meals on their behalf. That helps set them back on track for healthy eating, which was a huge plus for our family. Nearly a year later, we still use this awesome service with Kara, and really take advantage of what Kara has to offer with her meal prep! She is an awesome cook! This was the first baby we brought into the world, and Kara really did a fantastic job in making my postpartum transition go much better than I imagined. She was extremely supportive, nonjudgmental, and empathetic throughout my postpartum period, which made it go very smoothly! Kara also offered wonderful lavender oil scented massages as a lovely touch on top of all the support she gave us. Some of the best traits about Kara that we noticed is her excellent communication, knowledge, and listening skills throughout our entire time together. She had a great work ethic, always showed up to work a few minutes early, was a great multitasker, highly efficient on the job, and always addressed our needs while teaching us something new about our baby and guiding us along the way. Our baby was always very happy around her. Lastly, she kept up with all her vaccinations, including Covid, and respected our boundaries in regards to safety, which was particularly crucial for us around our newborn, in choosing a doula as a first time. We truly couldn't recommend her enough, and miss having her with us! Her positive attitude and warm presence made her feel like family!
