They have a wide range of books, fiction and non-fiction, magazines and periodicals and a great children's section part of which is shaped like a train. You can also borrow VCRs and DVD for a small fee. There's always an interesting display of books when you enter themed around some topical subject of that week and also a 'recommended' section featuring the staff's favourite books. Upstairs there's a full IT suite where you can surf the internet etc. An excellent library staffed by friendly, helpful people. You can also access all the libraries services online which makes checking the catalogue, reserving books and renewing those you've borrowed very easy.

This library has a lage collection of CD's and DVD's which I know some do not have. Even though it costs 50p to a £1 to get them out, it's still a lot cheaper than buying them. In the last couple of years they have really tried to make the Library a nicer place - they have a lot more activities for children now and they have also put a little cafe in. The availability of computers is also good. I feel this library is accesible to everyone as they have a lift to reach all the levels.

She guided us through the majestic halls and took us behind the scenes, explaining the lavish history along the way, always with a warm smile. Her enthusiasm for the library was palpable, and her extensive knowledge made the tour even more fascinating. One of the highlights was seeing the Duke Humfrey's library. Such a beautiful and historic building with crests of the University of Oxford covering the ceiling, and Kings, Queens, and Bishops along the aisles. The Radcliffe Camera and The Divinity Schools were not to miss as well. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Oxford.

However if you're just looking for what ever takes your fancy, then it's a great place to go. It is nice and quiet plus they have some computers there, so it's an excellent place to work or study and you can pop to the Morrison's for some lunch. The staff are nice and friendly too. They have a photocopier there and they can reserve and order in books (for a small fee). It also a nice place to take your children and get them into reading.

We would sit in there practically for hours on end reading books, we practically begged our mum to go down there with us so she could let us join the library, she eventually agreed. We would usually get the maximum amount of books out that we were allowed and weirdly enough read them all before the week was up. They have a little table where we would occasionally sit and do our home work. You could loan books, magazines, baby toys and video tapes (probably DVD's now as well). Only members of the University of Cambridge and Academic staff and research students from other universities can use it. Undergraduate and taught postgraduate students from other UK universities can apply to access the Library for reference during Cambridge vacations. Even if you can't get in, it is worth having a wonder round the site to be impressed by the sheer size of it. And why not keep walking and have a look around the Sidgwick site of the University of Cambridge - home to the Arts Faculties of the University.

Unfortunately you'll get arrested if you try to borrow a book. 3. WH Smiths is good for reading newspapers, unfortunately they don't give you chairs and tables to read them in peace. Actually, if you're cheeky you can go to the Costa Coffee place upstairs and read there. The new library should open in Lion Yard next year. The reason for the delay? Apparently the developers are arguing with the council over whether it should be called 'Cambridge Central Library' or 'Cambridge Library Central.' I sh t you not.
