I was hired by a manager at this company. I worked one day and was told they have a better position for me "Closer" to my house. It wasn't closer it was the same distance. I agree with the other reviews. Newspaper delivery is spotty at best but the fact that one is unable to reach this company either by phone or email is infuriating. If we have a missed newspaper, we never receive a replacement on the same day and sometimes never! read more

Horrible customer service. Does not always deliver the New York Times. No money back when they fail to deliver. No response when contacted.

I have been a customer for Sunday delivery for at least 15 years (started when it was College News Service). Never a complaint until recently, when the long-term delivery driver left. Since then, I either haven't received the paper, or it gets left in the wrong place, at least half the time. I have called to discuss this many times, but received only one return call. On the verge of giving up, currently their customer service is beyond awful. read more

The company is now called Sheffield Logistics (several name changes over two decades); I have been a customer for 20 years (currently receiving Boston Sunday Globe but have subscribed to others from time to time). This business has been nothing but trouble (incidents are too numerous to mention) but since they have a monopoly on delivering print copies of the Globe and others, there is nothing that can be done. Today, I cancelled my paper forever. There is simply no desire for us to be abused, ignored and taken for granted (I have pre-paid and will probably not receive a refund for 7 Sunday papers from these folks). Avoid at all costs. If there were negative stars, they deserve them. They care nothing for their customers and the voicemail answering message makes me gag and they say "they care" when as you will come to learn they do not. They REALLY DON'T. After MONTHS and MONTHS of failed deliveries, no contact, no consistency the WSJ should find someone else to deliver their paper. SC is the WORST. Fortunately I pay the WSJ directly so haven't had quite as much disappointment as others. IF you want a paper - go to a news stand. These people don't show up, don't notify customers of problems, don't call back, don't care and don't belong in the delivery - or likely any other business that involves customers. Up until a couple of months ago we received pretty reliable service from Sheffield but that changed when our delivery person left the company. Since then our newspaper delivery has been the equivalent of a roll of the dice: some days the paper is delivered on time, some days it's late, some days it never arrives at all. I've left numerous voice mails and emails, reporting the chronic late and missed deliveries (I've lost track of how many), but Sheffield has only credited my account for a small handful of these episodes. I've also left several requests for someone to get back to me, either via phone or email, but no one ever does. It makes me wonder why their voice mail greeting asks customers to leave a return phone number when no one bothers to call back. I'd appreciate even a simple acknowledgement of my frustration, or a quick message that they're working on fixing the problem, but I don't even get that. I feel ripped off. read more

I have received the NY Times via Sheffield Cartage for many years. They are generally reliable, but much depends on who is the actual delivery person. I suspect they have some trouble recruiting deliverers, but they try their best. read more

If only it were possible to leave a NO star rating. This company deserves it. It is supposed to deliver daily newspapers to the area, but it fails spectacularly. Its voice mail announces that they will fix the problem and then return the call. I have called over 2 dozen times in the last month for missed deliveries or deliveries of the wrong newspaper and have received no call back (nor fixed problem). Safiya The WORST newspaper delivery company EVER!!!! I have had carriers throw my papers under shrubs, in the street, on the sidewalk outside my home, and once on my roof. With the paper thrown on the roof, I had to threaten the owners to retrieve my paper with an extension ladder, or I'd call the police and/or take them to court. In that case, they were at my house in 45 minutes, but never fired the carrier. I've found that when there's no answer to my calls after I've left many messages, that usually means that the carrier has quit or the office manager has quit or been fired. I've missed my Boston Globe, Hartford Courant and NY Times. All three newspaper companies send e-mails to Sheffield Cartage over & over, and make repeated phone calls, but nothing ever seems to get resolved. The only good alternative to their God-awful "service" is to find a group of folks who want to start a similar business, and approach the newspapers with a business plan so a new group can get started. Is there anyone out there with a good business background who might offer advice?? read more

For many years now, I have had the Boston Sunday Globe delivered to my home via the Sheffield Cartage Company located in West Springfield, MA The delivery has occurred in all kinds of unpredictable New England weather, and I have sometimes been shocked to see it arrive during more than one nasty storm. It is always an early morning delivery, something I appreciate as an early riser. If there is ever an issue of lateness or nondelivery, something incredibly minimal over the years, I am treated with fairness by the office and always with what I consider to be great customer satisfaction. In this day and age, I still take great delight in holding and reading for hours a quality New England newspaper. We have received consistently excellent service, and the company has been responsive to the occasional problems with delivery (almost invariably associated with terrible winter weather and usually having to do with late delivery of the paper from Boston).
