As soon as I walked in the door I was greeted with a nose full of chemical smell. The atmosphere was harried and chaotic. This is NOT an Aveda salon. This is NOT the Aveda way. Customer service was nonexistent. I enquired as to a package I saw listed on the salon's website. I was answered with a curt,"We aren't doing that much anymore." No suggestion of an alternative. I turned on my heel and quickly exited with no plan of returning. Skip this place. It's another cut and curl dressed up with a spa name. read more

Never again! First time my Sis went here and the hairdresser Sherry did not listen to her, did NOT do what was requested. Later, a return visit last week dissatisfaction was explained to the owner, also named Sherry, who promised to 'fix' the hair do. The new cut and color is now unfortunately also a result of NOT listening: Sis explained 'no more than 1/2 inch cut AND color needs fixing, new highlighting". So the Owner took off 3 inches of hair and put in a copper highlight and dark colour - the opposite of what the CUSTOMER wanted! Twice burned, so never going back. read more

I booked a waxing appointment here right before my wedding, as I was going to be in the area visiting family and wouldn't have time to travel into Portland for the waxing session. It was a brazilian...and I was scared to pieces. I called many, MANY times (thank you Candy, for your patience) to talk to the aesthetician about my waxing experience. Each time, she was amazing. She always called me back within a few hours if she wasn't available when I called, was extremely kind, and answered every question I had to my complete satisfaction. I talked with her extensively about my sensitive skin, and she worked with me on timelines to make sure my skin would be a-ok in time for the wedding. The price was very reasonable, especially considering the amount of time Candy spent with me during my waxing appointment. She gave me lots of tips/tricks for caring for my newly bare skin and also was willing to perform the waxing ritual as slowly as I wanted (did I mention how frightened I was?!?). It was like I was her one and only customer...ever. The ladies at the front desk were always helpful and very sweet as well, and I wouldn't hesitate to book another appointment here again! read more

I went in to get an emerg pre-Valentine's manicure. Heidi was SO great - so meticulous and took her time, not like some salons where it's like going thru General Motors :) She had a great touch. And, I felt really taken care of by her. It was good to know - b/c I frequent Depoe Bay in the summer and haven't had a good referral for mani/pedis! I will go back for pedi next time I am there. Also - my auntie started having her hair done there which is why I went and she is thrilled with her stylist. So - thumbs up for Shear Sensations! I hear Heidi does a great facial too! read more

Upon my first visit with Alyshia at Shear Sensations, we did a 3 step process: bleach, toner (to eliminate yellow tones), followed by pink. It was a lengthy process, which was naturally expensive. My resulting hair color was mostly pink with orange patches. Alyshia said she "actually liked" the orange patches, like she knew it looked terrible but didn't want to fix it. It was $150.00. However, the pink only lasted for 2 washes. Then it was gone. On my second visit, I decided the pink wasn't financially worth the expense since it didn't even last a week. On this visit, we did a 2-step process. Bleach, then tone. When it was time to leave, Alyshia said "it should be about the same price" but I corrected her "except for the pink." She said, "but we used toner." And I reminded her that she also used toner on my previous visit. They told me it didn't matter and that I was being charged the same $150.00. I questioned the price, repeatedly, because the numbers don't add up. We did one less process, therefore the price should reflect that. They merely said "you have a lot of hair, and that's a lot of bleach." Well, yes, I do have a lot of hair. But I had the same amount of hair on my first visit! Same length, same everything. We used the same amount of bleach and toner. But we DIDN'T use any pink dye this time. Therefore, simple math says it should've been a less expensive visit. These are exploitative business practices. I feel as if I have been unfairly taken advantage of. The numbers simply don't add up, and it's unethical to charge inconsistently. Super disappointed in their decision to treat me that way and expect me just to be OK with that. UPDATE: A couple things happened when I came home. I inspected my color really closely. My roots are still super yellow, even though I asked her to fix that with toner. Actually she said "let me know if you absolutely hate it" while she was rinsing our my color. That was a red flag! She knew it wasn't right! I pointed out how yellow my roots looked and asked her opinion and she said "oh it's definitely yellow compared to the rest of your hair" so I said, "ok, can we tone the roots to match?" And she was like "of course! That's why I told you to tell me if you hated it!" Alright then.... so she applied toner to my roots but clearly didn't leave it on long enough. They are definitely yellow. The rest of my hair has PURPLE streaks throughout it, which I never asked for. After blow drying my hair, she said "you can't get much more violet than that!" But... nope. Pretty sure I didn't ask for violet hair. Lol There are also lots of DARK PURPLE splotches going horizontally across my hair, which looks extremely obvious on platinum blonde hair. What is worse... she COMPLETELY FRIED my hair!!! I honestly don't think she rinsed it thoroughly enough, because when it was time to wash my hair again, it felt insanely slimy like there was still bleach sitting in it for 2 days. It was super nasty and something I've never experienced in all my years of coloring my hair. I was worried and decided to do a strand test and to my horror my hair is STRETCHY! Totally elastic. That's what happens when your hair is fried. So, yep. Now I'm dealing with extremely damaged hair that is frizzy and impossible to style. Thanks, Alyshia. read more

This used to be a top notch salon, but it has gotten overpriced for the services. If you want a basic shampoo set or a beauty school cut it's ok, but frankly the stylists don't bother to go to seminars or update sessions. The "best" colorist doesn't know how to fix problems that are created in this salon. The nail technicians are crammed into a tiny room where everyone is bumping into each other and one has to shout to be heard. Not a relaxing environment. Hidi does a great job in Nails but only works 3 days a week. She is not willing to deviate from her schedule even for a repair or special event. Her prices are inflated. The owner is present sometimes, unless she's out "running". The phone system and credit card readers are often not working. I wouldn't waste my time or money, there are other salons in this town. read more

The service that we received was nothing short of outstanding. My husband & I got his & her pedis. Not his favorite thing to do, but it's Mother's Day & my birthday. We had a deluxe pedicure with paraffin wax. The ladies who helped us were very nice, not too chatty but sweet. Felt so relaxing & nice. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a full service spa. Waxing, hair cuts, pedi, mani, massage. Wonderful place. Lots of parking & a great view of the ocean. Some may think it's pricey at around $100 for both of us, but it was well worth getting the service & feeling wanted. read more

Heidi is easily the most amazing and best esthetician in the area, including Lincoln City. When waxing she is quick and misses nothing. Her treatment room is incredibly tranquil and relaxing. Beware of the haircut here: It has been over 6 months since I went to this place and I'm still trying to fix what disaster she created. I apologize that I don't remember the name of the person who chopped me, but it's one of those "I should have known but you don't want to be rude and say, I'll wait for another" kind of situations. The first cut I had there was decent- by a young blond, so I went again. This second cut was strip-her-beauty-license-from-her wrong- I could have done better myself. She cut bangs onto CURLY hair. By the time I figured out what she was about to do, my long front pieces were GONE. My little "wispies" stuck straight up like troll doll for 2 months as they grew out. They were too short to pull back into a pony tail so I had to do the Carrie from Sex and the City (little clip for just those hairs) EVERY day. If you are a lady in need of a haircut, get off the coast, because if even the Aveda, which I hoped would be the shining beacon of hair civilization destroys you, you're doomed. My next letter is to Aveda to let them know of their "crack" staff in Newport Oregon. I'm not sure they want their name on that. read more

Have not had a good experience with this salon. Have had much better cut & color & treatments elsewhere. Also, I was given a treatment (smoothing/straightening) that should've lasted 16 weeks. Day 2 I notified them that it didn't work. I was ill and couldn't make it in to see them for 2 weeks or so, but now they won't re-do this treatment because they said it's been too long. Not very good customer service if you ask me. Alicia was my stylist and I have never seen a more disorganized stylist. She was blow drying part of my hair when I still had color in another part of it! The 2 or 3 haircuts I had from her were a mess. I should not have gone back after the first time, but I thought she was "learning my hair" so I would give her another chance. I will never be back and would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

My mom and I got Mani/Pedis for my wedding. The salon was gracious about accommodating last minute requests when I needed an additional appointment for a family friend. Their pedicures are excellent; they really took the time to make it perfect and our feet felt great. They even fixed a broken toe nail that I got the week before the wedding. We found the manicures to be of lesser quality, perhaps less time was spent on them or they were rushed. Our nails still looked respectable for the wedding day though. Location is nice and quiet, without having to go into downtown Newport. Overall, the salon is a solid choice, but perhaps spring on an upgraded manicure to make sure it is perfect and lasts. read more

My mother in law went in here to get her hair colored about a month ago. She was very disappointed. The staff treated her like she was an idiot and totally talked down to her. Then when the color they put in washed out in two days they told her that her hair was in too bad of a condition for the color to stick. Then when she called to let the owner know what had happened they took her number but never called her back. Waste of time and money. She ended up going to Wabi Sabi Artistry in Lincoln City, OR to get it fixed. They did an amazing job and the color looks beautiful! I think she went the female stylist, sorry don't know her name.
