Simply Dorchester's best!…read more I've been going here for years. It's generally a female staffed shop, with a rotating cast of "One of these things is not like the other" males. Almost 30 years of barbering, and any time a clipper touches the back of my neck, it causes a light jerking reaction. Hypersensitive nervous system, perhaps? No clue. Been that way since I was born. So why am I telling you my life story here? Because after three decades, Paul is the only barber who is able to not trigger that reaction at all. Usually, I spent half the time in the chair apologizing, but with Paul, it is straight up not needed. The barbering itself is excellent too, no-frills, no nonsense. I have curly hair, so my options aren't crazy wide. Still, hair is cut as requested, efficiently but without rushing, and not stragglers remaining (if you cut your hair short, you know the pain!) The value is very solid too. While there may be barbershops that are a couple bucks cheaper, the price is very reasonable for the quality. The vibe is more old school. A good group of guys working here that make regulars and newcomers alike feel welcome.

I have been going to another barber shop in JP for years, but recently haven't been satisfied with the attention I was being given. I decided to try MVP. I arrived right when they opened at 9:00am. There were no other customers in the shop. Perhaps this is partially the reason Bernardo was so attentive, but my feeling was that I would receive the same treatment even if it had been busy. I communicated what I like. He acknowledged and off we went. Along the way, he made a few minor suggestions, which I took him up on. End result: a super neat and clean haircut and shave (straight edge for those of you who appreciate a real shave). Haven't been this satisfied with a cut in quite some time. Needless to say, I'll be back. Highly recommend giving Bernardo a visit.

Unfortunately, he proceeded to cut my hair significantly shorter than we talked about (I asked for one inch off, they cut about 3 inches off). He also gave me a skin fade when I asked for a 2 on the sides. It was disappointing to have this happen when we talked about expectations in the beginning. More dialogue about expectations may be warranted for future patrons! The one saving grace was that the haircut was a good haircut in that the fade was pretty clean. It just wasn't what I asked for.
