Thank goodness for Norma! She rescued my hair from a terrible highlight job and gave me a great cut, too. I love the salon space; very warm and welcoming. I'll definitely be back! Edited: my last appointment was several months ago; I just neglected to write the review until last week. My opinion of Norma's work is unchanged. She did a great job. However, the photo is what I walked up to today. If you're fine with it, definitely book here. If you're not, this is a heads up so you can decide for yourself. I'll spend my money elsewhere. Edit: our politics don't divide us, Norma. Our morals do. You hurt people. Let's get that clear. read more

Great place to get a haircut all barbers are skilled and love what they do... Old school atmosphere...

I called to make an appointment. Went through prompts and was asked to leave a message for Norma. I never received a call back.

Very rude and political first amendment place but mostly arrogant and rude women. The place is stuffed with antiques and overly done, not clean vibe. The service is good but the arrogance over takes the want to go back. read more

I've been TRYING to find a place here in town that can layer my hair to thin it out like my stylist in Washington State did and am so glad I came here! Angelica was so nice and did just what I asked her to do. Ear length bob with as much thinning as possible because my hair is THICK! When I decide to get color added back in again, I will be coming back to see her because she was awesome! read more

I'm here visiting our son in San Antonio Texas. I was well over due for a cut and color. I decided to call Shear Genius salon since it was close to his apartment. Norma answered my call immediately and made an appointment for me. I was feeling desperate! She got me in right away. I found a cut and color example on the website to share with her. Norma did an excellent job in matching the style I preferred. If I lived here in SAT, I would definitely make her my permanent hair stylist. She is professional, personable and is a fabulous hair stylist. I wish I had taken a before photo to share with you! read more

This place is a total fraud. Came for Japanese hair straightening and my hair was not changed at all. I reached out to Ms. Norma to let her know and she claimed the product rep had given her "the wrong treatment". Came back to get it correct with the right treatment a month later as she claimed and still no difference on my curls. Even purchased hair products from her and it was no good. Ive been getting Japanese hair treatments for years and never experienced anything like this. Now my hair is damaged and I cannot even get it fixed by a professional for another 6 months. I feel like I was a experiment on and she definitely has no experience on how to do Japanese hair treatments. After spending hundreds of dollars Im very disappointed and would not recommend this place. read more

After going to Norma, I have received a ton of compliments on both the color and cut of my hair! I have been searching for several years for someone who takes the time to really listen and gets the color and cut the way I want. Norma exceeded my expectations in every way and I am so excited that I found my hairdresser for life! And the icing on the cake is the charming and inviting atmosphere of her salon. Norma is very personable, professional and easy to talk with. You wont regret going to her....5 stars all the way! :) ~ Kathy Miller read more

While I did like my haircut services, simple trim and bangs, the stylist did not offer to straighten or style my hair so I had to do that when I got home to get the full effect of the haircut. Other than that, the salon had several passive aggressive signs about masks that I felt was unnecessary. On the door to the salon is the sign below.. which acknowledges the idea of choice but also is rude if you choose to wear one. Lower is the phrase "Let's Go Brandon". I decided to continue with my haircut because I really wanted one, and I do believe in putting politics aside, but these signs alone made me very hesitant. The salon design was very cute, but of course on the mirror is a mask that says "this mask is as useless as Biden" also were signs about inflation also blaming Biden. My biggest problem is again the passive aggressive nature of the mask signs. If you acknowledge the choice aspect then why have signs that make your costumer feel stupid for wearing one? Because of the immature nature of these signs, I will not be going back to this salon. read more

It is a cute place, however; not the place for me. When I arrived I had to wait almost 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment. The cut it's self was not bad or horrible but the bangs were not what I was looking for. I was also told that a wash, dry and style was included and that was not the case. Sweet and cute place but again not for me. The biggest reason I didn't give 4 stars is because of the wait time. read more

Just got my hair cut with Norma before going off to college and she did amazing! I've never stayed with a single stylist long but it looks like my new hometown salon will be this one! Norma took her time to make sure I was happy and didn't rush me at all. And most importantly she listened to what I wanted and executed it perfectly. Thank you Norma! read more

I just moved to San Antonio and desperately needed a haircut. I had a really bad one before I moved and needed it to be fixed. I assumed I would have to cut some length off and was prepared for the worst. Norma fit me in on very short notice and she did so amazing! She didn't have to cut much of my length and she made my hair look wonderful! I got a huge confidence boost leaving her chair! Walking in the salon she was really friendly and welcomed me like I had been there several times before. The salon itself is so cute and cozy, and you just feel at home when you arrive. I am so relieved that I found my new stylist on the first try! Thank you Norma! I greatly appreciate you! read more

I was very pleased with my haircut and blow dry. Although I had to wait longer than I expected to be seen by Angelica, it was worth the wait. I appreciated that she didn't make repetitive comments about how thick my hair is. I get that a lot and it gets a bit annoying, specially when I'm at the hair salon. She took time to blow dry my hair and I absolutely loved it. While I was there I enjoyed reading the cute and funny signs they have as decor. I look forward to coming back! read more

Shear Genius Salon - Before and after...Norma is a Shear Genius! Love the cut and color - Hair Salons Near Me - San Antonio, Texas

My hair is absolutely impossible, fine thin and straight. I really let it go after I had major surgery. I saw a lot of positive reviews for Shear Genius and for Norma herself. I chose this salon based on proximity to my home and positive reviews here and Norma did not disappoint. I sent her pictures of my color and cut ideas and when I arrived she shared color samples with me to ensure we were on the same page. She is very friendly and made the time go by very fast. Her salon is also very comfortable and inviting. I'm very happy with the results and that's saying a lot because I'm extremely picky. I will certainly be back to see her again! read more

I've had my hair done by Norma for the last 2 years after her colleague and my dear stylist passed away suddenly. He had always talked so wonderfully about Norma and I decided to go with her to honor my dear friend. She is amazing with color!! I've gotten so many compliments from friends and strangers alike about my hair color. My hair has also remained exceptionally healthy due to the high caliber of product that Norma uses. I trust her with my hair and let her go in the direction that she feels would suit me best. I will continue to go to Norma for all my hair care needs. I highly recommend Norma for great hair color and styling. read more

I had highlights done elsewhere and the color ended up almost a solid blonde and too blonde for my skin tone. I could not bare to even look at myself in the mirror. The color wasn't me. No one amongst my family and friends liked it. My hair was fried and breaking off so much that I lost length. My hair was a mess. I was desperate to get it corrected. I searched online and found Shear Genius and a review referencing Norma. I read numerous reviews on multiple different sites of Norma and they were all excellent. I found no negative reviews which is pretty amazing. The reviews gave me confidence in her and I trusted her before I even met her. I showed Norma a picture of the color and look I want and she got to work. FOUR HOURS LATER, Norma had corrected the base color of my roots and the tone of the highlights. She treated and deep conditioned my hair with some supreme bonding products that made my hair feel healthy and soft. Once she cut and styled my hair, it no longer looked frayed at the ends and the breakage I had was no longer noticeable. I love how my hair feels and looks. Norma started the process of getting my hair healthy, longer and to the color I want so that I can have the exact Balayage look I want. After meeting Norma, I will never again settle for "how my hair turns out". I had been settling for years. I highly recommend Norma! She is a professional, has talent and takes pride in her work. Moving forward I will be putting my hair in her hands. read more
