Beautiful haircut by Blaja!! She is wonderful and I will not let anyone else cut my hair!! She is absolutely the best!!

This time around i had one of the worst experiences there. I've grown my hair long because I'm getting married soon but because i get to wash it in different places during the week, with different water sources and pressure ( because of work) i'm using dandruff shampoo which apparently dried my hair. I had an appointment with Nadia for a haircut and style, i usually just get it straightened out. I had washed my hair about an hour before my appointment so when she asked me if i needed my hair washed i said no. She proceeded to blow dry my hair and started talking with one of her colleagues. Mid blow drying she just asks me what shampoo i'm using. I told her it's for dandruff and keeps talking to her colleague in third native tongue and this time i noticed they were pointing at my hair and i could see her getting frustrated. When she was done blow drying I asked her why did she asked me about the shampoo and she told me i need to use another shampoo because the dandruff ones hake chemicals and damage the hair. Mind you, while she noticed my hair was not very healthy proceeded to blow dry it without adding any product. The she proceeded to straighten it again without adding any product to protect it. She rushed the straightening and did large strands of hair. When she looked like she was done and asked me if it was good i pointed out at some parts of hair that were not properly straightened but were covered by the top layer hair. She had parted my hair in the middle, I don't do that, and when i said I don't like it like that and tried to part my hair differently she got frustrated with me. And that will be my last time using their services. It's disappointing that she's a hairstylist and she doesn't know how to take care of damaged hair and doesn't know how to make care recommendations ( in all fairness i never asked her what products to use because when she considered she was done with my hair si simply went away and another person took my pay and only came back as i was leaving). I wasn't rude, i even tipped her. When i got home i discovered another part of the hair that wasn't straightened. Oh well, never again! read more

Got my daughter in here fir a last minute cut. A bit pricey and the stylist barely cut any hair off. If we come back we'll make sure they really understand how much we want cut. read more

Be aware that some of these stylists do not speak English. Make sure you get a translator if you are unsure. I said I didn't want the back of my hair cut and I was growing it. Instead she cut several inches off the back and used a razor, shorter than I have ever had it. My neck is completely bare, it feels very uncomfortable, and it will take months to grow back. This is the 2nd time my wishes were not followed and I'll have to reconsider a return. read more

In a week, I came here three times! First, they are currently going under construction but still operating so make sure to really pay close attention to the sign because you just might miss it! Once again, they are open during construction. Also, the location is so convenient if you're coming from the loop because you can just take the brown line to western. You can also transfer from the red line or purple line onto the brown line from Fullerton or Belmont. In addition, there's multiple buses that run to western and Lawrence. I first came on Monday to get my hair cut by Amela. I had a semi Marilyn Monroe haircut and wanted Amela to trim it shorter by about two inches. She washed my hair, really massaged my scalp and shampooed twice. Once she was done, combed my hair and started cutting. I have a really sensitive scalp so when someone brushes my hair, it's really painful. I told Amela to be careful while she brushes my ends and she was very considerate of that. She removed a lot of damage from my hair. Some hair stylists cut just straight across and style it but I asked her to slightly layer my hair to remove the damage. She constantly asked me if I wanted to chop off more and she was very conscious of my reaction. I wanted shorter hair so I kept telling her to chop it all off! Once she was done, she blow dried my hair and then trimmed the ends a bit. I absolutely loved my haircut and the way she blow dried my hair! She charged me $32 for the cut, wash and blow dry. Very reasonable. Amela is bee sweet On Wednesday I went to see Veronika for a bikini wax. This woman. THIS WOMAN. First of all, she is so kind, charismatic and so wonderful. Don't be surprised when you see a Barbie, she is not only beautiful on the outside but in. She makes you feel really at ease during a process that can be really painful and unpleasant. I usually call in advance to let her know I'm coming because she can be booked up. When you arrive, she checks in and walks you over to the wax room. The room is sanitized and she gives you time to change into a bikini- not really sure how to describe it but it's basically like a thong but for waxing. If she thinks you're nervous, she talks to you during the wax but she moves quickly. If she can't wax off something, she literally takes tweezers and pulls it out, that's how much she pays attention to detail. I personally only use hot wax but I'm sure she does threading too. For a Bikini wax, I'm usually done in 15-20 mins. A bikini wax is $30 and then obviously, remember to tip graciously :) highly recommend Veronika! My last trip here was on Saturday but I didn't get anything done, my mom did. My mom wanted an updo and Olga is usually her go to stylist. My mom had washed her hair the day before and didn't want it to be frizzy if she washed it again so she just asked Olga to style it. Therefore, she did not get her hair washed at the salon. My mom has a big nose and requested Olga to style it in a way where the hair style compliments her nose when she turns to the side. Olga really listened to her suggestions and then first teased her hair before curling the ends. Olga used a lot of bobby pins to bring the hairdo to life but the hair style was beautiful. Olga really takes her job with full pride and it is apparent in her technique. The hair style itself took about an hour but my mom wore it for four days after. That's how durable the style was! Since my mom didn't wash her hair there, the updo cost her $50. read more

They overbooked. I waited 15 minutes after passing my appointment time, had to ask the Stylist again how long I still needed to wait. She told me maybe another 10 minutes after giving a haircut to the customer in front of me. I looked around, all the customers did not seem happy so I decided going to a different Salon and got a nice hair cut and deep conditioning right the way. If you can't take customer, call them and let them know to reschedule. read more

I have been going to Shear Elegance for the last 13 years at first I seen nevenka which was part owner with Syeda she did a wonderful job on the color and extension and then I tried someone different which was the other owner and her name is Syeda and she is wonderful. I had lung cancer 13 years ago lost my hair nevenka put extensions in but she did a great job, then I went to Syeda she even did a better job 5 years after I had brain cancer lost my hair and she helped me feel beautiful once my hair grew back she added extensions and color within the five years I had four more brain operation and went back to Syeda every time. she is the best in highlights especially blondes she listen to what you actually want and always ask as she's cutting do you want longer or more shorter and she gives her opinions what she thinks look better. And believe it or not it always comes out beautiful because with each client she takes her time. I send a lot of family and friends and each of them that went to Syeda they said they would never go anywhere else for 1 she does a wonderful job on cut color Style and extension and her prices on everything in the salon is so reasonable. I actually wanted to try something new and went to a different salon 9 months ago they charged me $450 plus tip I couldn't believe it wasn't expecting that they did a nice job but for that I could have went to Shear Elegance and ask for Syeda and it would have been $100 to $150 with everything cut color Style and tip instead of $500with tip and there's a lot of other stylist that do just as good as Syeda and nevenka some of my other family go to a lady I forgot her name she is the only one with short red hair with a bob style and they have been going by her for the last 6 years and they say they will never go nowhere else. So you can take my advice and try it out and see how you like it believe me you won't be sorry if you explain and tell them what you exactly want then you will get exactly what you want. sorry for the long review just had to explain because I see other people that are giving bad reviews and believe it or not I cant imagine why.. thank you Syeda for always being kind and taking care of me because through the years I had so many different cut styles and color and you always made me feel beautiful and did a wonderful job. from Gretchen read more

i have been looking for a good salon ever since i moved north. after a series of bad haircuts, i tried sheer elegance. i was given a quick appointment and georgia was so helpful. i showed her a picture of how i wanted my hair and she told me she could fix the damage, but it needed to grow out more. also, she looked at my husband "bad" haircut and said if we both come back in 3 weeks she can undue the bad cut. she trimed me up and my hair looks much better. in 3 weeks she said it can be layered and textured more as i get back to normal. this is our salon forever. i always felt my hair was the problem, but it is not. georgia was so encouraging i now feel so much better about my hair. and also, the price range is very reasonable. great salon!! cecilia read more

Mine is an unfortunate inheritance: Eyebrows with serious aspirations to become a single brow. Also to take over my eyelid and forehead areas. Imperialist Eyebrows, if you will. Usually, I can manage them down to a mild roar on my own, but when they start joining forces and getting topiary thick, I need a professional. And at Shear Elegance, I found the professionals I needed. The price is right, they get you in and out, and my brows are beaten back to their treaty-determined areas, no more and no less. Can't speak to the haircuts, though. read more

I've received decent short cuts just by walking in twice. Most of the stylists are Bosnian and so is the music, so it's a unique vibe while they talk to each other. Last time I walked in on a Sat. morning and was fit in by a stylist whose scheduled client was late. She was fast and good, but pointed out that my roots were not colored well (done at home) which was true but bluntly delivered. Can't beat the price - $15 for my short hair (no shampoo). And they accept credit cards, which many mom & pop salons don't do (at least in my area). read more

I can't in good conscience recommend this salon. I moved to a new neighborhood and so tried a salon really close to my house. The haircut I received isn't horrible, it's okay, a very traditional long layered cut. Pretty, but not as flattering on my face as what I asked for. My issue is that I asked for something specific and slightly different than the traditional. Not wild, just slightly different. The stylist first tried to convince me I don't have the hair for the cut I wanted, too curly. It's the same haircut I have been getting for years, and I told her that, and yes, my hair straightens very easily with the blow dryer. I'm lucky I can go wavy or straight quite easily. Then she advised me that she can't do that cut just because... no real reason, it just threw her I think (I wanted to have clearly defined round layers, not the blended feather found in the front of many long layered cuts. Also a straight across blundt bang, not blended). I advise her this is the cut I always request and no worries, it's simple. She proceeded to cut the hair exactly the way she wanted, not what I asked for, deliberately putting in the blending and I couldn't stop her quickly enough. I didn't call her out at the salon in front of other guests, I don't think that's appropriate, the cut is not bad, it's just not what I asked for. And that's also not appropriate. read more

This is the best place to get a quality haircut for a good price in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. I've tried a few other places around town, but none of them is as reliable as Shear Elegance. I've been going here on a consistent basis ever since I moved to Chicago. In case you haven't picked up on it from all his great reviews, let it be known that Zoran is the man. He does a very good and thorough haircut, he remembers how his customers like it done, and he's a really friendly guy. I've been 100% satisfied with his work and I highly recommend him as a barber (or hairstylist, for his female customers). On a general level, Shear Elegance is almost always busy with customers and yet they're still capable of handling walk-ins. It's probably best to call in first to make an appointment, but they've usually been able to fit me in for a haircut after a short wait, if I forget to plan ahead. This is a great place to know about right in the heart of Lincoln Square. read more

A friend comes to this salon and her hair is always beautiful, so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't have much time to spend on myself and you could tell. My friend uses Blasia (I know I'm spelling that wrong) so I asked for her when making an appointment. I had a wedding out of state and wanted to look good. Very short wait and into the chair I went. I wanted a cut, color and last minute decided highlights. I told her I wanted her to make me 25 again. Her demeanor is wonderful, always asking if I liked what she was doing since I told her to go for it. The color was beautiful, the highlights perfect and the cut and blow dry made my curly Irish hair look fantastic. Took her almost 3 hours and I loved every minute. I watched the different clients as they left and each one was more beautiful than the other. Went back this evening for a color touch-up on my roots. No wait, Blasia remembered me and my friend. Nice. Friendly. Very talented. Clean place. Works her butt off on your hair to make it look stunning. Quality products and very fair pricing. The whole shop is filled with talented women (one man, I believe) and is the only place I'll use from now on. Oh, and Blasia DID make me look 25 again....at least in my book. read more

Happy first time visitor. I asked for a relatively big change --- AND I got one! --- color, cut, and style. The preceding reviews were pretty much right on, exactly what I was looking for. Utilitarian, no bull. The person doing my hair also had to answer the phone - constantly. The person ahead of me drives here from Joliet; she likes them that much. I'd give it five stars, but I don't want to make it any harder for myself to get in; and it's not truckling like one might find a five-star place. and NO, I will not tell you who did my hair or how much it cost, but you should want to know. The eyebrow person is off on Mondays and Tuesdays. I second, they accept credit cards. I believe an appointment would be at least recommended. read more

I am not a typical salon/spa gal. I don't want champagne or Enya playing or frilly towels and sheets. Just give me a clean location and good, fast service at reasonable prices. That, my friends, is what Shear Elegance provides. $30 for a full Brazilian. $30! Insanity. And she was amazing. And super sweet. And got every last little hair. Impressed. And since I can shampoo and style my own hair, the fact that they offer a regular, plain old haircut for $20 is awesome. So. The total was $50 (not including tip, of course) for a trim and a Brazilian wax. I am outstandingly satisfied. I wish I had known about it sooner so I could have avoided paying $50 for Brazilian waxes for the past two years of my life. read more

My wife has been getting her hair cuts with Saida for years. She loves the place so I decided to get a hair cut here as well a few years back. After my cut I never went anywhere else. I get my hair cuts by Zoran. He is quick and does a great job. To make things even better, they recently starting carrying and selling my favorite shaving products. A line called Rod's Royal Treatment. The shave cream and aftershave are by far the best I have ever tried. They said that if these sell well, they will even expand on the line and I truly hope they do, so make sure to pick some up when you are there. read more

SO HAPPY I found Kali here! She used to work at this dump down the street, but I went there anyway because of the amazing cut and customer service from her. She left on vacation and I had some old lady at her previous employer cut my hair. It was AWFUL! She left hairs around my ears, drew a line with a razor around my head and then shaved down. I left in TEARS! I had to pay, and wasn't offered even a fix from this guy who continued talking about how much he hated America! I vowed I wouldn't go back; EVER! Needless to say, when she got back from vacation she also got a new job down the street at Shear Elegance! SUCH a great step up for her! The ladies in here are ALL so nice! The atmosphere is also so much more welcoming than the dive she was in. My haircut was, and has always been AMAZING from her! My head was so happy she was back from vacation and in a much better atmosphere. For GREAT men's cuts; GO SEE KALI! read more

Came here for a haircut today after rave reviews from my friend who has been a loyal customer for years. I saw Travis who started at this salon 6 months ago and he was fun to talk to while also very skilled at his job. He listened to what I wanted in my cut and gave good advice to achieve that elusive volume that I'm always seeking. At $37? What a steal! read more

Veronica is the best! Waxing is fun with her. Exceptional service! I keep on recommending her to all my friends!

Definitely a fan of the work my stylist Iskra did on my hair. Took me about a year and 8 visits to a salon to finally get my hair the blonde I wanted. Of course it took a while but it was well worth it! What wasn't worth it was the $120 I paid at the end. Yes, that was ONLY for a full head of highlights, a wash and dry. No haircut, no styling, no nothing. A mens haircut is $20. Ouch! You do get what you want, but again, way too overpriced! read more

I usually am the person who read reviews from others before I go somewhere, however I have never made a review myself. So, this is my official one and I've been saving it for a place most deserving and this is it! I usually don't like going to a salon, but I had no choice, my split ends were crying out loud. So after reading many great reviews, I decided to come here and GIRRRRLLL (or man) this place satisfied me 100%!!! First off, have you heard about their prices?! $22 for a regular hair cut (for the lady's) and if you want a fabulous shampoo&conditioner moment it's only FIVE DOLLARS MORE! Can someone say, "STEAL"?! Keep in mind, I have extremely long and thick hair and I was afraid I would get charged at LEAST $60, but no. This place makes you feel at home and they are fast! They listen to what you want and deliver! Overall, I would recommend this place to everyone! read more

Best salon experience I've ever had. You are paying for really excellent quality work, so pricing is very reasonable. Detty did an excellent haircut and was so kind and lovely to talk to! I'm an out-of-towner but I will certainly come again next time I need a haircut in Chicago! read more

I recently moved back to Chicago and needed to find someone to cut my hair. My friend recommended Shear Elegance, and I made an appointment with Saida. I have to say, I never had anyone work on my hair the way she did. She was like an artist with her canvas. After I sat in the chair, she asked me what I wanted. I showed her two pics of prior cuts I'd had that I liked. She communicated with me during the process. After cutting/shaping, she spent a great deal of time texturizing my hair the way I like it. When she was finished, I have to say I was very pleased with how my hair turned out. I also feel that for the time she spent cutting/styling, the price was very reasonable. I will be returning to Shear Elegance and Saida for next haircut. Oh, I was able to get squeezed in for an eye brow wax, and that was done very nicely, as well. read more

This place is just perfect! I have been going there for over a year and never once had a bad haircut - which did happen to me before in some pricey places. This is what you can expect here: - not to be pampered as a princess, but to be treated like a real person - no fake smiles, but honest opinions on what is doable with your hair/what will look bad or good on you/what condition your hair is in - ABSOLUTELY no prejudice whatsoever. People working there are real people, hairdressers, as opposed to 'stylists', no ego there. - excellent service. Everyone there have been working for years and have background in European hair salons. They are also up to date with European trends and are able to do even the craziest cuts. If you come with a picture of what you want your hair to look like, rest assured you will leave the salon with the exact same thing. The only reason I am giving this place 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that the interior is somewhat out of date (which really doesn't have much to do with quality of your haircut, but hey). This is THE place to do your hair! read more

Was in the neighborhood visiting a friend so I made an appointment. I got there a little early so they got started a little early and had me out of there fast! I have a pixie hair cut (but sometimes that takes a long time) and the woman who cut my hair (Saida?) totally knew her way around a pixie. I showed her a few photos and explained what I wanted and she was OFF. She asked a few questions along the way to make sure I was getting what I wanted (VERY helpful in a hair cut situation) and I am so pleased! It's sassy and cute and exactly what I wanted (and NOT what I got the last few times I went elsewhere). I'll be back! I had been there a few years ago and that haircut was good, too. I don't live close but I will be making the trip. read more

This morning I woke up and wanted to cut some hair off from the back myself. It was just an annoying layer that needed removal. The rest of my cut was already perfect. I thought to myself, F this - a salon is going to charge me $35+ to get this done and take forever doing it. I made the perfect choice going into shear elegance. I walked in and out in 15 minutes, $10. No shampoo b.s. No nonsense. EXACTLY what I was looking for! I will most definitely be back when my hair needs a full cut! Thanks. read more

I loved how nice everyone was, but unfortunately I wasn't happy with my hair cut, style and wash. For $57 dollars, I could have gone somewhere else and received a much better hair cut. The women who cut my hair was very sweet but overly aggressive with my hair. She only snipped a few ends and the next day when I washed and dried my hair, i see I'm now left with a very choppy weird cut. I walked out of that salon with a Rachel from Friends rip off hair style from the 90's strange do. read more

On the plus side, I was able to walk in for an appointment and the price was incredibly reasonable. The stylist was really sweet and seemed experienced. Now to the not ideal stuff. They took me right back to the chair for a wash, which was my first concern - they didn't sit me down to look at my dry hair and talk through what I wanted from the cut. After the wash, the only thing she asked was how many inches to come off. My hair is super thick and curly, its not about taking length off so much as getting the shape right. Which she did not. My hair still looks like a giant triangle. I think this place could be a good option if your hair is straight and your cut isn't complex - I won't be coming back here unfortunately, curly hair is not handled right at this place. read more
