Charisma is a nice little locally owned salon North of Dayton, just South of Vandalia. It resides…read morein a small strip-mall/shopping plaza at the corner of Little York Road & North Dixie Drive, right next to Tropical Sun Tanning Salon. Parking can be a bit of an annoyance, especially in the evenings or weekends, due to the fact that the shopping center also includes a Submarine House restaurant/sports bar. However, once you walk through the door at Charisma, you forget that it's sharing the building with the Sub House and a convenience store/gas station. The salon is decked out with stylish pale yellow walls, with beech wood and black accents. The waiting area has large black leather couches, a couple of shelving units displaying various products and several magazines and pamphlets to choose from to peruse while you wait. The salon takes walk-ins, but your best bet is to call ahead & make an appointment with one of the stylists. The staff are all friendly and extremely talented. The salon is a "Paul Mitchell" focused salon...which I guess means they use PM products & attend PM educational sessions. They also have a "Color Bar" which holds a plethora of different hair color hues and is where the stylists go to mix the colors for their individual clients. All of the stylists there are excellent. Each has her own "specialty", but all give a nice haircut/style. The place is usually booked up during prom season, due in part to the high demand of updo's, which can also take up most of the salon's schedule on Saturdays in the summer for weddings. Prices are excellent for what you get, considering other places around Dayton cost much more. For example, according to Charisma's price list (for spring 2009), a cut & style starts at $28. For the level of expertise of the staff...it's more than worth it.

The maintenance in this establishment is horrid, and the house is poorly maintained. I had to lift the lid from the toilet seat off the sink to wash my hands. I got charged by Laurie for an eyebrow service that I never received. She said that when I came back the next week when her granddaughter does my nails that it could be done then. At that point, I no longer wanted the service to be done and wanted to use my payment for my nails. After being asked to show 30 minutes later to my appointment because she had run out of supplies and running behind on her appointments. The nail service by Maddison was rushed and very disorganized. My nails were poorly painted and crooked. I usually don't leave reviews, but my goal is to try and prevent someone else from having the same bad experience.

Hi i went here yesterday to get a fill in. It was my first time being here. They had beautiful…read moredecor and were really nice, but i had a horrible service done. I will NEVER go back. I got a fill in with regular polish..i just got my nails done a week ago so you can only imagine how easy it would be to fill in that little tiny bit of nail and change the color...well the student that did my nails did a bad job at it all.. she took my polish off with a couple cotton balls slow asf, like she was scared to hurt me, and parts of the cotton ball was still on the table and has little hairs on my nails that stayed for awhile...filling the nail in..she got the stuff all over my skin amd not enough on the top of the nail..then the teacher redid it all for her when she came to see her work.. Then she gave her the seat again to paint my nails.. Fr this girl is horrible at just putting polish on nails..and im not trying to bash anyone so im not gonna put her name...obviously this school doesnt give af about how much teaching a person NEEDS BEFORE DOING SERVICES ON OTHER PEOPLE...I AM SO GLAD I DIDNT GET MY HAIRCUT.. So shes putting like 7 layers all at once on each nail and im just watching like wtf... Instead of just one layer like everyone else does and then goes back over it with one later...lol My nails were bumpy..and looks horrible. The teacher came over and repainted my one nail and saw she wasnt even covering the whole nail. Even the teachers work wasnt perfect..first time i didnt take a picture of my nails for facebook..its a day later and i dont want them anymore. Sides are pocky, the polish is messed up on a couple nails and they were redoing them so much i just wanted to leave.. Then the student sat down and did my thumbs again horribly..bubbly and too layers, i told her to get the teacher and i told the teacher that im not tryin to be rude but i need her to finish these nails so i can leave and she did and then she sprayed them with the spray that drys your nails....like cheap ass shit..one of my nails feels like its gonna break. Ridiculous..

The staff are all related and close down the school whenever they want to go across the road to get food. It took me over a year to get all my credit hours for a 10 month program due to them shutting down school for every little thing; personal family vacations, air conditioning not working, personal appointments. They lie and cheat and steal your money. The same rules don't apply for all the students and once they get a favorite, you will suffer for it. The staff talks about the other students and yells at them. It's so jr. high. half the time I felt as though I was living in an orphanage forced to work by Miss Hannigan. it was terrible...terrible...terrible and I still have nightmares about this place. They watch you on their closed circuit televisions and yell at you from their office. Stay away from this place unless you want PTSD. They threaten suspension if you don't sweep the right way. God...I hated that place.
