There is a parking lot and bathrooms at the start of the dirt gravel trail to the falls. Hooker Falls is a wide, 12-to-14-foot waterfall on the Little River . Very scenic area as the falls empty into a clear pool surrounded by beautiful vegetation. Scenes for The Hungry Games were actually bfilmed here.

We actually started at the parking area near Hooker Falls and eventually drove over to the main center and walked the trail to High Falls. We enjoyed our visit early on a Sunday before it got too crowded. A very nice visit.

The home is exactly what we needed. Clean, open, and with all of the amenities that you would expect from your own home. On the property there are horses, a rabbit, a barn cat, a pond for fishing (full of carp and sunfish), and clear open skies. I woke up at 4:30am on Saturday morning to take a picture of the comet that was visible prior to sunrise, and it was beautiful. There are several rules posted in the house on the fridge, most of which are common sense, so please respect the property and the animals, which are mostly being boarded here. Wifi is available and there was a hot tub out back which we enjoyed each night under the stars. I would definitely stay here again.

It had a coupon for $12 off!! We called on Tuesday night about 7:45 (they closed at 9) and talked to Teresa who was able to schedule our foursome for a trip at 2:00 on Wednesday. She was so helpful and gave us some tips for travel to Hartford. Once we got there we checked in with a very competent and thorough young lady. We took a short bus ride to the "put in" point. On the 10 minute ride some of the guides performed fun comedic routines which kept us from thinking about how hot we were on a bus with no AC ( except open windows), decked out in life jackets and helmets while holding our paddles upright. :-) We got paired with a river rafting guide named Brantley. He gave us great paddling instructions before we even entered the raft. Since we had all been river rafting before, he explained that the trick to having a more exciting trip is to synchronize your paddle strokes. We had a great time with Brantley. We truly appreciate his concern for our "fun factor" and especially our safe trip down the river.

I arrived literally afraid of the water, having fallen into a pool as a child, but the staff somehow got me in that lake, taught me to swim, and enabled me to fall into love with sailing. I spent countless hours sailing that lake and found a love for the water that remains today. But there was so much more to Mondamin... the 5-day hikes in the national forest, where you learned to fend for yourself and have the courage to press on when you questioned if you should stop.... Or the rock climbing and repelling trips off some of the most beautiful mountains in the country... or the whitewater canoe trips on class 3-5 rapids... Or the archery and rifle range, where you could hone your skills.... But the evenings around the fire pit stand out, where achievement awards were granted to campers in the form of awards, painted on a canoe paddle, which every camper knew and respected. I look back as an older man today, and am appreciative of my opportunity to experience Mondamin, and glad to see it still able to leave a mark on the young men who attend.
