The 300 Main St Shaws had a major flaw-the doors open to let you in! This location has been circling the drain for years. This Shaws must be the Sibera of the NH stores. Went in at 11:30 on a Monday and the Customer Dis-service Desk is closed for lunch!? Come back at 12:30 says the sign. The store has been turned into a low security prison with metal gates at the doors and items locked up behind plexi glass It gives you that warm gulag feeling. You know who has a Courtesy Desk (with real courtesy) that doesn't close mid-day? Market Basket and Hannaford. The customer is not an interruption to your day, it is the reason you are here! Tomato's 4 pack purchased Wed 4/22/2024. They disappointed me greatly. They must have been shipped very green and the ripening even ticked the store QC Dept. The store is woefully understaffed, especially at traditionally busy times. The recently underwent a renovation and it was basically putting lipstick on a dead, rotting pig. One of the changes was removing a couple of registers. I can't recall the last time I saw all the registers manned. Also their prices are out of line. When I do serious shopping I go to a competitor. They are staffed and when it's busy all the lanes are open. When you pull into this one and see the full parking lot, turn around and leave, otherwise you will be spending 30 or more minutes in line just trying to pay for your items. read more

I have been an on-line delivery service customer for years because I have a disability. I have been shocked at the decline of fresh foods offered. They seem to be near rotten, much smaller in size (therefore,they are buying lower graded fruits and vegetables) and charging higher prices for the lowest graded food. If you order on-line they debit you the full price of the order including taxes and fees that are a calculated portion of the total amount. And...they debit your account the minute you place the order. Often, they don't have many things in stock. So you have to wait for that refund 3-5 days. You Never get the portion of the taxes and fees back ever! This becomes pure profit for them. As does the same for what they didn't deliver. If they can debit the same day they can refund the same day. However, they always blame the bank for not processing the credit. Not true! Shaw's corporation holds on to these fees and waits, usually 4 days to send it to the bank. The bank then credits it within 1 business days. Why, like all corporations that do this they make interest off of refunds that are purposely underfunded. Yes, this is profit too. So, how many ways does Shaw's overcharge their customers....let me count the ways! Trash vegetables and fruit, meats, seafood etc., horrible customer service in store and on-line, dirty stores the list goes on and on. If your an Amazon customer you can find food products, many in bulk for much cheaper, better quality. If you use prime you don't pay for shipping! Shaw's is a hugh rip off..recognizing they have many food stamps customers and have lowered standards even though they make the same amount of money!!!!! read more

They never have enough registers open here, it gets so bad some days that even the "express" lane is so backed up, its no longer express. I typically just go to the self check out lanes even though I hate using those. I asked an employee why it was so bad and they just said its hard to find people to work here. I believe this is illegal in the state of Massachusetts. Apparently they do not care. The workers seem nice. The management also seems nice. The problem is that two different times, including today I leave my cart somewhere so I don't have to drag it around everywhere and someone who works there puts it back. Like last time I walked around the store thinking I don't know where it is, to come back where I left it, still nothing. Both times i ask what happen to the cart and both times I get for a response... "I don't know, but sometimes management sees an empty cart and just puts it back." The Shaws company sucks. They charge absolutely absurd prices that skyrocket each year and the quality of the product isn't great. Even when people are going through hard times during the pandemic, they charge nearly $6 now for a 4-pack of muffins! Also, the bell peppers are $2 a piece! The employees are generally very kind and helpful and will do their best to take care of you. Unfortunately, I have heard from many of them that the ways they are treated by the company are the opposite. Corporate is never satisfied when employees/management go above and beyond doing their jobs. Corporate only cares about their salaries and bonuses, none of which regular employees get. You could work there 25+ years and only end up making $16/hr. I am honestly surprised that the truck drivers are the only ones striking against Shaws right now! read more

Some manager kid called me a liar when the items I tried to purchase rang up much higher than their advertised sale price. After his rude comment and attitude, I told him to forget the transaction and I walked away. I then went back to the isle where I found the items, I took the price labels off the shelf and showed him. He didn't even apologize, just gave me more attitude. I left the store and went elsewhere instead. I've been shopping here for 10 years, I don't need some punk kid accusing me of lying to save a few dollars. Anyways, besides that... Things here are more expensive than any other grocery store in the area, and you aren't getting better quality for it. The check out lines are always long, there's usually only a few registers open. The self check out usually only has 1 or 2 open, so that takes forever... part of the cooler area near the deli has been down for 4 months, but they still keep it filled with warm sodas instead of just fixing it. I have come to this Shaw's to pick up lunch quite frequently (about once a week) since I began working down the street 3 years ago. Generally, until this past week I found it to be an average supermarket, with the exception of the perpetually broken self-checkout. I have ordered sandwiches from the deli counter about a dozen times in the past, and until the past 2 weeks, I have had a totally fine experience. However, last week I had ordered a sandwich and one of the people behind the counter was seemingly upset by it. Throughout the entire process the man preparing the food was polite, but there was another man behind the counter who kept commenting about how "this isn't a Subway". I was willing to give the man the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was having a bad day or was upset at something larger than the sandwich. This week, I walk in to purchase lunch, and I overhear a woman giving a similar "Subway is up the street, go order a sandwich there" spiel to a couple who had tried to order food, but were declined. I don't know why people working at a deli would believe preparing food falls outside the scope of the job description, but that seems to be a problem here. There is a 3-foot sign immediately above the deli counter that has a menu of sandwiches which they apparently refuse to serve. They do have one thing right though, this isn't a Subway - the people at Subway don't whine when you order lunch from them. read more

This Shaw's needs to be on Undercover Boss. I had ordered platters in advance for my sister's wedding for the bridal party. When I arrived to pick them up at the scheduled time, the deli had no clue what I was talking about and the bakery had the same reaction. Everyone that I spoke to complained about "upstairs" and how the managers never check the orders that come in from online and that this happens all of the time. I even met with a manager and he honestly seemed to care less. He gave me a $25 gift card to Shaws (although I had placed an order of over $100) and was on his way. I can understand the employees complaints and see their reasoning as to why my order was never sent to them. The associates that I worked with at the deli and the bakery really went above and beyond to help me. Granted, I ended up running around the store for just under 2 hours trying to piece together platters, they were rushing around to grab me anything they could to help me get as close to my order as possible. The deli made all of the wraps fresh for the platter and was able to get me exactly what I had ordered after figuring out the mistake. The bakery was missing a lot of the items but they did their best to accommodate me and make sure I left happy. They also gave me 50% off of the new makeshift platters. Although I missed a few hours of spending time with my sister and was late for hair and make up, I really do appreciate the staff that jumped in to help out. I've never been a Shaw's shopper and after this experience I do not anticipate visiting again any time soon. read more

Went there a couple days ago and saw a majority of the fruit was moldy, many of the vegetables are unkept and dried up, and tons of expired yogurt and milk, as well as expired spinach/mixed greens. This place is filled with old nasty produce and shouldn't even be open. I've heard complaints like this before and I've seen a couple of expired things there before, but I've never experienced it to this extent. I'm mortified! Also there is rarely more than one or two registers open so customers usually have to go to set check out, which is always beeping and making you wait for a manager to override it anyway. I mean.. WHERE IS THE MANAGEMENT? Who are the corporate owners/managers? Why is no one working to make this Shaw's location a more hygienic and clean food market? Shaws is overpriced.I only go in there if I really really need something in a pinch.(mlk/bread) The cashiers are slow and seem unhappy and literally work on island time. The self serve lane is broken most of the time. I prepare myself mentally that Im going to have to wait awhile when I check out. Its been like that for years. I've finally gotten to the point where I need to write a review. I have been shopping here for the past 7 years, mainly because it is right around the corner from my house. But I've had enough with the expired food. I can't tell you how many times I have found expired chicken, frozen meals, milk, chips, even boxed items at this place. I always gather as much of the product I can when I see it and bring it to customer service. A couple months ago we decided on a whim to try the white castle breakfast sandwiches. I didn't notice the expiration date until I got home, it was November of 2018. I had bought them in April. I mean come on. I brought them back to customer service. 2 weeks ago I decide maybe we will try them again. The entire lot of them still sitting in the freezer had been expired for months. I brought all of those up to customer service and asked that they please not put them back on the shelf. I've had it with the expired food from meat to cake mixes. It's unbelievable. I wish this Shaw's would stop cornering the market for groceries in downtown Nashua. I would be very happy to see any other supermarket take its place. Low income people who live downtown shop here but would save money if they took a taxi to a different store for weekly shopping. Here's why we never shop at Shaw's anymore: *the annoying gimmick sales usually just get you the price you would pay anytime at Market Basket. . *as far as I know, the chain is still owned by a company in a foreign country. Market Basket is New England's own. * Every single time we or our neighbors bought milk or cream there it was spoiled within a couple of days though in date--this means improper refrigeration was stand practice at some point in the retail chain. It's been a few years since we went back but I can't break the habit of expecting milk and cream to flow or flop out of a container in chunks. I habitually sniff cream everywhere I get it out of self protection I learned from the Shaw's Experience. *I got in the habit of writing down all the marked prices, sometimes even bringing the price sign or a photo of it to the register. That's how often prices rang up incorrectly. Most managers and cashiers would argue with me instead of believing that the price was wrong. I, and customers behind me in line, had to wait while some low level employee was located and told to look for the product and he would get someone else when he eventually realized he couldn't find it....when I was proven correct there was never an apology, just excuses, "prices change a lot. That's what happens when a store has a different 'ONE Day Doorbusters! Sale' every day. *Yes, the employees were ignorant about the store and surly and unhelpful. The store did eventually get rid of the marked up prices if you don't have a loyalty card thing. I hope the blaring TVs in every department and checkout aisle are gone too. I shop here only when I need to pick up something after going to the gym, which is unfortunately far more often than I'd like. This Shaw's is pretty terrible for the reasons mentioned in previous reviews. However, the jacked-up prices are particularly distasteful because this is the only supermarket in downtown Nashua. The prices might be marginally better than those in the bodegas. Therefore, the people who live in the Tree Streets who don't have cars (a large percentage, I'm betting) pretty much have no place else to go that doesn't entail a lengthy bus ride full of transfers and surly co-passengers. Shaw's can therefore profit off these people with said high prices and lame selection. Hooray capitalism! read more

Pricing has become far more competitive than it has been and I've been noticing more and more regular prices that are within reason. Sales here are now pretty good. They are making all the right moves. Still, there's some pricing to further reduce but I can see why they aren't doing it too drastically. Shaw's is the WORST SUPERMARKET EVER! I tried twice in the last 3 days to cash a $30.00 Payroll Check at their "Service Desk" and it was closed HOURS before the store itself. Thanks to Shaw's, I had no money, food or gas for Thanksgiving. Shaw's made a mistake when they closed only 6 stores last year. They should have CLOSED THEM ALL. They are a Blight on the Community. Market Basket and Walmart provide better service and far lower prices. The Royal Ridge Plaza store should be the First to Close. A Food Pantry would provide better service. read more

This Shaws has a lot of problems. My first issue is with the poor customer service. Everyone is so miserable here and they could care less if the customer is taken care of. The self checkout never works right. I wish they would fix this as I would rather check out myself than deal with the nasty cashiers and baggers. The baggers need training to bag the groceries( cans do not go on bread!) As far as the sales.....this is my main issue here. If an item has a sign that says 3 for $10, and I buy 1, then I should have to pay a third and not the regular price because somewhere hidden in the store is a sign that says I must buy 3. Prices need to be clearly marked and this includes shelf tags. It is NOT the customers responsibility to have to go through the sales flyer and/or read all the scattered signage. The managers need to be more attentive to these problems here. This store is local for me and because of all the issues I will take 2 busses and go to market basket just to avoid the hassles. I will never shop at this store! I came in to get some items that were on sale and yes it says a limit of 5. I figured I would do 2 transactions like I have in the past. The check out woman I dealt with told me it was only a limit of 5 and I said yes I'm doing 2 separate transactions. She denied me that. So I left the store and came back to place yet another transaction. But the "front manager " had to make sure she ran over to the register that I was in line for and make a comment that I already purchased 5. The woman at the register made it a point to say it was a limit of 5 per person per day. So I dropped my items and walked out. After going onto your weekly ad to see EXACTLY what it says, NO WHERE does it say that. I'm furious that your cashiers just lie because the "manager" finds the need to run her mouth. There's a reason why she's a "manager" on a Thursday morning when no one is in the store. I know many people that live in this area and I will make sure they go down the street to Market Basket. After many years of going to this store and last night, I will never step foot into this store again!!!! My daughter(13) & I quickly ran in last night for 1/2 gallon of milk & 2 packs of cigarettes. I paid cash so as I turned to leave, throw my receipt out in their trash. I drove home and my daughter took the milk out of the bag she says, "Mom there's no cigarettes in the bag". I had her double check the car and drove back down to Shaw's. First, the cashier states "I know I put them in the bag" she calls the Manager, he states "I can't do anything without the receipt". So I tell the manager, I paid cash so the receipt is right there in your trash barrel, let's get it. "No, I'm not doing that" states the Manager.. He says he'll take my name & number and will review their video tomorrow and will get back to me. Are you kidding me, the receipt, your cashier already told you I paid for them, she didn't put them in the bag. Well, another Manager, just called me, she has my receipt and after they review the video, the cashier put the cigarettes in the bag. Are you kidding me, you buy three things and only 1 comes out of the bag, really!!! I told the manager I wanted to see the video also and she said no they can't let me, why because you're wrong and don't want to admit. Shaw's stole my money!!!! This is the final straw with and I've lived in Nashua for a long time and will be letting everyone know, Shaw's has no problem taking your money and you get no product!!! I don't understand some of the negative reviews. Okay, some of the employees seem disgruntled some of the time, but hey, they're working in a grocery store, cut them a break. Can you imagine some of the Trashua people they have to deal with in here? I work nearby and often go in to grab something quick from the deli for lunch. Compared to other Shaws' Ive been to they offer the most choices. I've never been to any other Shaws that offers freshly made pizza. I live on the Seacoast, and frankly, the pizza at this Shaws is better than most specific pizza joints near my house. They also have a good selection of chicken, potato wedges, etc. And the salad bar is huge and always stocked. I guess I've been lucky, but I've always had a good experience here. Everyone knows you don't shop at Shaws for your bulk amount of weekly groceries. You go to MB for that. But I think Shaws' bakery cookies are much better! And their Italian bread.
