I will not be returning to Shawnee Mission Kia. Had a great experience when I purchased my vehicle years ago, however things have changed since. I took my vehicle in for a simple oil change appt that was scheduled at 9:30 AM and was told prior to it would be 2-2.5 hours. After dropping off my vehicle I was told it would be finished at the end of the day because there were services not completed from the day before already ahead of me. Almost 6 hours later still no update and no vehicle. Very inconvenient unless you plan to sit at home on your day off while your car gets an oil change that should take approximately 30 minutes read more

Employees in the service dept. are very rude and unprofessional. From an employee rolling their eyes when my daughter got there to drop off my car to damage they did and then didn't think they should have to fix it. When I picked it up and left there was a long rubber thing hanging out of my hood and flopping around. I went back and told them and it was the seal to my headlight. The girl stuck it back on and when I asked for a receipt saying it had been messed up and what she did she got really belligerent and told me my car was old. I said my car wasn't like that when I dropped it off and that they had messed it up so they should be responsible for it. Now Kia in general - the reason my car was in there is I've been having oil issues for awhile now. My car only has 90,000 miles on it and started making a noise. I checked the oil and it was almost dry. No engine light came on. I have been having to put oil in every week or two. After doing oil consumption tests they said I need a new engine. It's still under warranty but because I couldn't find 2020's maintenance records they won't fix my car. Come to find out this is an issue with their engines. Their engines are faulty. I have never missed an oil change. They find any little loop hole they can to get out of fixing engines they know are faulty. After being a Kia driver for 20 years I will never buy another one or recommend anyone else to buy one. If you own one I can't stress enough to check your oil weekly or more. Make sure you have every single maintenance record of anything done to your car and if you want your car to last longer than 90,000 DON'T BUY KIA!!! Google oil problems with Kia's. Also when I got it home and checked the oil it was almost dry. They didn't even tell me that when I picked it up. read more

I am very disappointed in the service they provided to my son. His vents were not switching and they said that the whole duct system needed to be replaced. The cost.....$5,500. This is not the AC or heating, just the vent system. Also, this is for a 2014 Kia. They charged him almost $600 to hook a computer to the car to supposedly make this diagnosis. We took it to a real mechanic and they fixed it with a $100 part, an actuator that went bad and 2 hours labor. I will never trust them to work on any of our Kia's. We have 3 Kia's and we take them there for routine maintenance. They have lost me and my family as a customer. read more

UPDATED: Went back to check my 4th consumption test, was told I passed it. It was .25 quarts low, it hasn't even been 1000 mile. have had at least two soaks and have had four consumption tests, each low. I'm getting closer to my warranty running out, really thinking that's what they want so they won't have to replace my engine per a recall. I'm so tired of the run around, I've jumped hoops for KIA, to be treated like this. I've praised SM KIA in the past, but if this issue is not fixed they have lost a great customer and gained a lawsuit. SIX MONTHS AGO: Have been a customer since 2008 and have purchased two cars. Francesca Jackson goes above and beyond when I'm there for service. Right now I'm working with her with my recalled engine. I am now on my 4th oil consumption test, I have failed the previous 3. I was expecting my engine to be replaced after the 3rd failure but KIA says there needs to be another test. Makes me wonder if after my 4th failure I'll have to have another test for oil consumption. I'm concerned that this testing is going to carry on until my warranty is up in a few thousand miles. Since I've been going through this Francesca has always been there reassuring me that I'll be cruising in 'Quincey' worry free. read more

I visited Kia after calling ahead to confirm a special offer for 0% financing. The representative told me it was dependent on approval but otherwise should apply. When I arrived, the vehicle I originally asked about wasn't available in the color I wanted, so they showed me another and said it was the "same price." When it came time to run the numbers, the price had jumped by $5,000-$6,000 due to added items like a $3,500 extended warranty and a $2,500 dent/cosmetic protection package. I was told the 0% APR wouldn't apply unless I waived the "discount" they had applied, and they were not willing to remove the dent/cosmetic package even when I asked. The staff was respectful, but the experience felt like a classic bait-and-switch. Driving 40 minutes for something I confirmed in advance, only to be hit with surprise fees and terms, was incredibly disappointing. read more

No, I don't love having to come to get service, but it really is unavoidable. I'm really glad smkia us here and so great to work with. They get busy, and I have had to use another dealership for my oil change. The other dealership charged me over $50 more for the same service!! This time, we brought our telluride in for a transmission leak. They got on with an engineer from corporate and determined a brand new transmission was the fix. Was not excited it was going to take "about 1.5 to 2 weeks. But they did hook me up with a Lyft ride home. So that was Monday, and I got a call Friday the same week it was all done! I got to pick it up and they finished in under 5 days vs. the 11 to 14 days I was originally told. So far, so good, and it shifts like butter!!! Terrible. So shady. Do not go here. They didn't even fix my car and charged me 300$. I have never had such bad service in my life.

I would rate a zero or negative if I could. the last 3 times I've taken my vehicle in, there has been an issue soon afterwards. the first time, the oil drain plug was not fully tightened and oil was leaking post oil change. The second time was again for an oil change and shortly after the oil change, an oil warning light came requiring me to take it back in to see why this was so. Turns out an internal part of the engine coincidentally failed right after the oil change. They quoted me over $2200 plus taxes and shop fees to fix. After I got home, I went out to drive my vehicle later that night and noticed a 6 inch crack in the windshield (with a clear point of impact from which it was spreading from). This continued to spread in the following days to over 14 inches. After a week of attempting to contact upper management (several messages with other staff who assured they would pass along the message along with voicemails left), I was told Shawnee Mission Kia service was not at fault and these were purely coincidence...I'll let you decide based on the details and timing here. Long story short, I wouldn't trust them with a Matchbox car let alone my vehicle and hope to save some others from having to go through this. On a final and side note, I called another Kia dealership in the area and was quoted just around $1000 for that same $2200 repair this dealership was quoting. This isn't the first time they have been drastically inflated for an identical part/repair at another Kia dealership. read more

Took my car in on Friday may 24th for a 90k service. Everything checked out and everything was fine. Was told I only needed breaks. After they finished with my car, and after I paid close to $1k, my car started going wobbly about 60-65 mph. I took it back in that following Wednesday at 8am, just to be told 4 hours later they "missed" checking the suspension and said I need a new one and quoted me $2k. What's odd, is my car was completely fine before I brought it in!!!!!! Now the suspension needs fixed?? Absolutely terrible service here! Going to be looking for a lawyer to look into this. I feel like these people lie and cheat to make a quick buck! read more

Update - I have had ongoing issues with my car, it's the same problem. ANGELA the service manager was previously helpful and understanding. Today she told me she doesn't have a crystal ball, I'm not her only customer, and walked away from me while I was speaking because she had a meeting to get to. I emailed and called Bryan Hendrich to report her appalling behavior. She also claims I have no warranties because I'm not the original owner oft the Kia - not true, I've spent thousands out of pocket and thousands in warranty at your dealership as I'm only the second owner and I have under 60k miles. Why can't you repair a simple brake light? Why charge me $30 per lightbulb or $90 to diagnose and NOT FIX the issue? Guess what, MY BREAK LIGHT STILL ISNT FIXED and ANGELA never called me back as promised months ago regarding a seat sensor issue. She had a terrible attitude towards an upset customer and she handled it terribly. She shouldn't be a manager. He told me Angela is allowed to have a bad day. Thank you for helping me at a time I needed your mercy, and to Jim for assuring me I would be safe to continue the remaining 8 hours of my journey home to TX. I have a 2016 Kia Optima that I drove from TX to IA in early June 2024 for a class reunion, I ultimately had to have the engine replaced. Fast forward to 2 months later when I finally was able to retrieve my car from Des Moines and drive it back to TX. I picked it up late Tuesday evening, and on Wednesday as I started my journey back to TX. While just outside of Kansas City, I noticed my AC stopped blowing air from the vents. Because of the engine replacement scenario, I wanted to have my car looked at ASAP before continuing the rest of my drive (8 hours remaining) back to TX. I Googled and found Shawnee Mission Kia and spoke to Yazmin Martinez Dominguez, Service Advisor, when I called. I briefly explained my story, and with no appointment she said bring it in and we'll take a look at it for you - hopefully it's simple and we can get you back on your way as quickly as possible. Upon arrival I was greeted by Begi Velasquez, Service Lane Manager, and she immediately took my key fab and had her mechanic, Jim, look into the issues I reported. He quickly diagnosed the problem and was able to get my AC airflow working. He also looked over the engine replacement work that was done in Des Moines (while trying to diagnose the AC issue) and pointed out numerous items that were not completed when the DSM dealership was finishing up the engine replacement. I've already spoken to Kia Customer Care and booked a service appointment at my local Kia dealership in TX. read more

Very poor communication and effort from their service department. Taking my car in there for a basic oil change and recall work (3rd time for the recall work and they still haven't gotten in fixed), and there was no communication that the recall work wasn't done, and they couldn't manage to get the oil change done either even though they had the car for 4 hours. 2 messages left for Angela the Service Director haven't been returned, not has an email that was sent to the dealership. Look elsewhere if you're thinking of buying or getting repair work done as the effort and communication is abysmal. read more

If there was a "no star" rating that is what I would have given. Do not buy anything, do not send your vehicle for service, stay as far away as possible from Shawnee Mission Kia. I wish I had done my due diligence and read some reviews before purchasing from them. For the sake of brevity, I am bottom lining this review. Bought a used Kia Sorrento, within 3 months we had electrical issues. Come to find out they said mice ate the electrical harness which means no cruise control, no ABS brakes, driver assist features, tire pressure indicators, engine light notifications, etc. Not even certain the air bags will work. Luckily we can turn it in on our insurance but we still have to pay a deductible and we have been waiting over a year for the part to come in. We have not had any issues with the other vehicles parked at our home with mice eating the wiring in our cars. I feel like this happened or was happening at the dealership and they knew about it. No way to prove it so we are out of luck. Even with all that and against my better judgement, my niece needed a car so I took her to buy a used Toyota Highlander. Again, within a couple of months she started having engine issues. She took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told she needs a whole new engine. I don't know that she has any recourse either at this point but will be reaching out to a consumer protection attorney to find out. Bottom line is this. I am 55 years old and have purchased multiple vehicles throught my lifetime and Shawnee Mission Kia is the worst experience I have ever had. They are the reason used car salesmen get a bad rep. Under no circumstances should you waste your money or time at Shawnee Mission Kia unless you like getting the shaft. I don't know how they sleep at night. Run, don't walk away from them! read more

Bought my Kia sorento two years ago brand new ordered it and requested black interior, the gave me white interior and then instead of fixing (because I'd have to wait another month they just bought it and made me pay for a sealant for the seats which I felt they should have paid for since I didn't want white anterior. Fast forward 1 year my cylinder 1 misfires and got covered by warranty. A while after that cylinder 2-3 misfire and we find out there's a recall. I requested they fix all cylinders so I don't have this issue. They did give me a loaner car. Now I've had my car 2 years and my cylinder 4 misfired and the are saying they will not cover it. This was a recall item and shouldn't be giving out after supposedly being replaced not even 27k miles ago. If I knew I'd buy a brand new car only to have this many issues in 2 years I would never have bought Kia. Now my car is stuck in service unless I pay 1500$ to replace an item that should be covered by them. I do not recommend their cars and they have been giving me the run around. read more

Don't get an oil change here, had 9:30am appointment today, explained needed to be somewhere at 12 and only needed oil change, nothing else. I did t hear from anyone, I called 11:10am as I didn't hear from anyone and they said my car hadn't even gone in yet, that they had 45 cars with appointments before my 9:30am appointment and that was why. That sounds like extreme overbooking! This place is terrible, I said you need to tell your customers this when checking in if there's a back up or delay. Now I will be late to my 12pm. Terrible! We found a used car that we made clear that we wanted for our daughter. We were working with Jeremy and Steve M. We verified their hours and verified with Steve that he'd still be there until at least 6 pm because our daughter was working. He said that he'd be there. I returned at 5:23 with my checkbook and daughter. At no time did he or Jeremy present numbers or request a deposit before we left vowing to return in a couple of hours with our daughter. It was going to be in her name, so we couldn't do anything until she got off of work . We made this clear. We didn't realize that we needed to leave a deposit to hold the car for 2 hours and no one asked for one. My husband even asked if we needed to leave a deposit before we left. When we returned a couple of hours later, they were in the process of selling the car to someone else. The salesman, Steve, immediately said that we didn't accept their numbers when we were there earlier or leave a deposit. I pointed out that no one presented numbers or asked for a deposit knowing that we'd return. Because they were still in the process of gathering info from the other customer, I asked if they could explain to them that we were a cash sale, there first and had come back for the car with our checkbook. Jeremy said that wouldn't be good business and their financing on a 2011 car might not go through. After waiting 40 minutes, Jeremy said that financing had been approved and apologized to us. The kicker is that he very clearly said that he learned a valuable lesson today. Either he or the salesman should have made it clear that they needed a deposit before we left the first time. We didn't have our checkbook with us but we did have a credit card. They dropped the ball, and we're back to square one. We will never do business with them. read more

Shawnee Mission Kia is a scam artist. They are fraudulent criminals. After charging me tons of money they do damage to your car rather than fix it. So on a valve cover gasket, they broke my valve cover after keeping it a week. They tried "fixing" it with caulk. The week my car was there they also removed components from my engine. Another dealer said that nothing wore out, just components removed. It has taken months to fix the damage they did. read more

I bought a 2021 Kia Sportage from the used Kia Dealership on Shawnee Mission Prky. I had problem after problem with them from day one. First, the salesman forgot to give me all my paperwork from the day of sale. I had to wait 3 days before they could print it out once it was scanned into the system. After 3 days I had to make a second trip to the dealership to pick up the paperwork only for them not to give me the complete packet. The guy argued me down saying that was everything. Lies! Then once the title came back I drove back out there to get my title realizing that the original salesman didn't sign the title and licensing form so I had to have another salesman sign it. On the day of going to the DMV, I get turned away (after being there for an hour and a half) because it turns out Shawnee Mission sold me a vehicle that had a lien on the title. Now, I make a third trip back to the dealership, ask to speak with a manager telling them the issues I've had since day one with this company. I asked if I could trade my vehicle in for another one that I would actually be able to register and was told no and that basically I just have to wait for them to get the lien situation taken care of. He apologized and said they will pay the late fees for registering my vehicle once the lien is removed from the title. He didn't offer any services like a free oil change, free car wash or anything for my inconveniences of the wasted trips to the dealership , paperwork not being properly signed and given to me nor for me having to take off work an additional time and going back to the dmv. He just apologized and said they will pay the $25 late fees. Nothing about compensating my wasted gas going back and forth, nor about lost wages from taking off work an additional time due to their errors. I work at a hospital and it is extremely hard to take off once assigned shifts. I am so disappointed and deeply regret ever going to this dealership. Worst experience I've ever had. read more

My 82 year old mother took her 2018 Soul in for a check engine light June 18th 2024. The light was for a minor evap leak. Instead of addressing the the check engine light they elected to evacuate the a/c and refill for over $300, funny thing is the a/c was working just fine. When she got in the car after the service and saw the light she brought it to the attention of the service writer and his reply was to erase the code and said if light comes back they will get her back in. I left a voice message with the the service manager person that day and never heard a peep from them. I also emailed the same person on the 21st of June 2024 and still not a peep has been heard. My husband dropped off the car at 8 a.m. for a pre-scheduled 8:30 a.m. appointment with the service center. The service needed was just routine maintenance/oil change. He told the technician when he dropped it off, that there wasn't a big rush because he would just come back after work to get it at 4 p.m. At 4 p.m., he still had not heard anything and tried to call to check on the status, the phone rang and rang for 20 minutes before he finally gave up and just went to the dealership. Once there, he was told by the administrative staff that his car hadn't even been started yet. He asked them to please prioritize it (all while noticing that several employees were standing around doing other things while phones rang constantly - not a single phone answered). She told him she would let the service center know. At almost 5:30 p.m., our car was finally brought out, the technician said he didn't know that he was here and waiting on it otherwise he would have started sooner! In summary, the concerns are the following: 1. What is the point in making an appointment, if the staff will take 9 hours to look at the car? 2. The front desk staff doesn't answer phones at all and also doesn't communicate with the mechanic staff (even when they say that they will). Overall, it could have been worse, but it was still a very frustrating experience. We don't have impossibly high standards, but the customer service is pretty abysmal. Most of all, we also are concerned that our car was not checked thoroughly and could have issues in the future because the staff is clearly overworked and rushed. read more

Ok, this Shawnee Mission Kia is so friendly that they deserve another review from my last service visit. By "they" I specifically mean Luke Johnson -- almost every time I'm there, I see him and you cannot miss his big smile from a mile away! I specifically go there to get my car serviced with him because he is so easy to work with. Again, I am slowly but surely learning more about cars, but when I am confused or have no idea what he is talking about he makes sure to spend the time to explain the new auto terms! I think I've been here about 3 times now within the span of 2 months but that's because I also had a deflating tire + service appointment. Luke took the time to make sure I had enough air in my tire to get to the next emergency tire shop when I realized the soonest appointment would be in 2 weeks. Lobby is clean and Luke was quick to acknowledge my presence when I walked in. Shoutout to him! read more
