Being a licensed cosmetologist, I was skeptical. I asked Cassandra if she felt comfortable cutting short, S2 wavy/curly hair. I needed it cut badly, as I was leaving town the next morning. Cassandra listened as I explained what I wanted my hair to look like/do. I felt in very capable hands with her. I had not had a previous haircut since October '25. She gave me, probably the best haircut I have had in years. So much so, that I don't feel it necessary to seek out the stylist I originally booked with. A great haircut is one in which I don't have to go home and "tweak" with my own scissors. That is what Cassandra gave me. I will definitely return to Oomph with Cassandra. She is wonderful!

She got my cut just right, but what really stood out was the color. It's the first time I've felt like someone truly understood what I was going for. The result was natural, flattering, and exactly what I had in mind. Nicki is experienced, attentive, and is a talented stylist. It only took 8 years for me to find her. Oh, and the salon is lovely. Nice and bright with lots of windows. Great vibe. I definitely recommend!

Today was my first time at this salon…read more The salon is very easy to get to because it's right across the street from the parking garage on Fleet St. and also around the block from the smaller lot by Hanover St. I saw Lauren for my single process color and haircut. We talked about my color and cut and Lauren was right on par with exactly what I wanted. She was very nice, welcoming and open to what I wanted. I started with unevenly colored hair, long root growth and old faded dye on the other bottom half. I was looking to be rid of the faded reddish color and start going lighter so that eventually I can have a much lighter brown. The color came out nice! It's a nice lighter brown and looks a lot more even. The haircut was just what I wanted, shorter and a little layering with texture. She gave me options of styling it and parting it differently. Very happy that I found this salon and a stylist I am happy with in Portsmouth! My fiancé will be going for his haircut there next week!

I cannot recommend Liz enough. I came in with about 7 different colors in my hair, from blonde, to…read moregreen, to brown, to pink. All of it. I told Liz I wanted lavender hair. She spent 8 hours working on my hair, taking amazing care of both me and my hair! She was so kind and funny to talk to, and listens to everything you ask and say! I left after those 8 hours with the most BEAUTIFUL purple hair, more than I could even imagine. She worked with my (extremely stubborn) hair and made it a work of art. She told me that because of my hair color and condition, true lavender all over wouldn't be possible, so she adapted and added a darker purple in places where lavender wouldn't cover, to make sure I was all purple and it turned out SO cool. I won't be going anywhere else for color (especially not box dye...)!! THANK YOU LIZ!!

Liz was great; as I am in my 20s I always want a stylist who can give a modern cut and a colour that looks luxe and expensive. Liz more than delivers on both accounts and when she told me the price at the end, it was so much lower than expected that I thought she had missed a decimal place...cut and colour for under $100! Worth mentioning that the products she used for highlighting my hair got it to the light blonde I wanted, but left it feeling healthy and happy..something anyone who has had highlights knows is nothing short of a miracle. Fantastic service for any price - but for the level of expertise of both the cut and colour (plus excellent conversation and a relaxing experience) Liz is by far the best stylist I've ever had! The salon was very clean and trendy, with fresh baking and coffee a nice addition. For anyone looking for a new hair stylist in the area, you cannot go wrong with Liz. Highly highly recommend.

Solari uses Aveda products which they tell you are plant based and safe. They could be plant based…read morebut definitely not safe. At first I trusted what they said about the hair color being safe then I started with a great deal of hair loss which was contributed to my age. Then I started with some irritation after coloring and then severe pain and blistering which I had to apply ice packs to my head for 4 days before it subsided. I asked to see the ingredients and I was sent the product leaflets for each item used to mix my color. They are definitely not safe and contain multiple ingredients above OSHA approved levels of being toxic and dangerous and contribute to hair loss and severe scalp irritation. I made this known to the manager and she told me she would talk to Aveda and get back to me. it has been 20 weeks since then and she still hasn't gotten back to me. I can only assume Aveda knows its ingredients are toxic and just don't care. In those 20 weeks of being free of Aveda products my hair has filled in bald spots and is growing strong and healthy! Please do not take my word for anything, just stay informed and ask to see the actual ingredient papers enclosed in each item used to mix your color. You can't miss the large dark printed letters "TOXIC " I still have my copies! Good Luck and take care of yourself! Linda

They are in a temporary location at 201 Cate St. and thriving as they find a new permanent home. If you want to know more about the staff, look at reviews for Jessica Todd Salon dating back from Summer 2023 and earlier (I'm guessing here). You can look at some of the newer 1-star reviews on that business's page to find out why this talented team wound up moving. I hope some other clients come here to review the folx who really deserve the accolades! The entire team is friendly, down-to-earth, and the salon has great parking, great music, nice facilities, and even an adorable neighbor cat who visits from time to time! The prices are quite reasonable for the quality of work this team does. I see Aly every 6 weeks or so for root touch up, but we have also done highlights and balayages. I'm sharing this review today because I just came from the salon and I always get so many compliments on my hair and asked for information about my stylist! I also happen to care about the personality of my stylist; Aly is warm, generous, and happy with conversation or no conversation. She genuinely takes a personal interest in the quality of her work, and she gives a great shampoo massage! If you prefer a stylist to dish with you, act like your therapist, cheer you on, whatever you are looking for, I am sure you will find it among this team. I have seen clients of all ages here and lots and lots of return visitors. Can't think of anything more to add but please check out this woman-owned business in Portsmouth! Double-check their temporary web site to confirm they are still in the same spot!
