Not to be distracted by the name they mostly sell fruit and vegetables. One of the more traditional places these guys sell what's in stock at the right time of year. This may seem standard but in the age of the supermarket where, for instance, there are no seasons it feels good to be eating naturally. I've always been happy with the fruit here - not too ripe and squishy, never unripe. With many changing deals and a pleasant and chatty handful of staff, this makes a refreshing alternative to the much larger megaliths down the road.

I loved the double decker bus you can go onto, and the bomb shelters, complete with commentary from locals who'd had to use them. There are some good exhibitions here about local neighbourhoods, which might be slightly less interesting if you don't know them. Mshed is a good size to have a quick peek around, or to spend a bit more time with the exhibitions. There's a nice harbour view from upstairs, too. And you can buy Bristol things from the shop.

As well as all the standard range of indoor, outdoor and water plants they also offer some rather unusual furniture and garden ornaments, including some animal themed ones! There's a real nice tea shop where I sampled a delicious slice of Victoria Sandwich Cake. Totem poles and serious-looking masks glowered at the entrance, and I crept past to an oasis of water features, palm trees and funky looking plants. There's a tiny florists shop, a desert-mock up with sand, cactus and wheelbarrows, and all manner of Buddha statues and incense burners. Architectural junk sits amidst trees and herbs (some that have lasted for several months in my garden and I'm far from green-fingered!) Long outbuildings house mirrors, terracota pots and rugs - all bright and inexpensive. Best bit: homemade lemon cake and a pot of proper char in the cafe. Well, all that gardening is thirsty work afterall!

The garden centre is pretty well stocked for peripherals, but also has a nice selection of instant colour seasonal plants as well as some fruit and herbs for kitchen gardens. Their willows and topiary are a bit old fashioned and I would recommend going to a specialist nursery for trees (try Chew Valley Trees) but this is great for a gardening hit in town.

Quaint to the point of being weird, and also almost always completely empty. Enough of analysis of the style of the shop, I should probably tell you if it's any good. There are sections for homeware and DIY, as well as a garden centre. You can get more or less anything for the home, a few things you didn't know you needed, and a few things no-one would ever need. There's an entire row of various things for your milkman to leave the milk in, to give you an idea of the range. It's not that cheap unfortunately. I think all there costs must go on the staff (who are very helpful), of which there seem to be a greater number than there are customers most of the time.

The atmosphere is warm and cosy and as the building has many original features still in tact it also gives of a certain country pub charm. The business is split into the two traditional sections of a bar/ bar eating areas and a more formal restaurant area. Food here is mostly traditional based country pub food with a few hidden gems. The savoury eccles cake is amazingly tasty and well worth a try if it's available on your visit. Meal sizes are just right and the selection of local ales is good. The service was friendly, fast and efficient (really couldn't have asked for better).

The staff are always really friendly and helpful, no matter how busy they are. They are very knowledgeable and expert at interpreting my requests! They can be as imaginative or as traditional as you want - from big fancy bouquets made with modern funky blooms, to really delicate small arrangements in oasis for a child's grave. They are definitely the best florist in Trowbridge for quality of flowers and quality of arrangements.

It's a great place to grab a drink and use facilities when you are out and about on the Downs. There is an indoor seating area with air conditioning plus outdoor tables and chairs which are lovely to sit out at when the weather is good. You can park for free on the road on Stoke Road.
