Shasta Eye invited me to share my experience, and I appreciate the opportunity to provide honest feedback. While several staff members were courteous and professional, aspects of the exam were concerning. While waiting for the appointment, I became overwhelmed by the level of noise and conversation in the clinic by staff. Staff gossiping about patients, one another, etc... Just like hens in the henhouse ... I thought about leaving. During my exam, I was met with comments by DR. BAGGA such as, "Why do you have your eye closed?" and, "You should be able to see -- it's only an irritated eye; you just need saline." I am on General Assistance and cannot afford an eye lubricant. In addition, there were noticeable exchanges of side glances between DR.BAGGA and other staff, which conveyed JUDGEMENT t rather than support. These behaviors, though subtle, had a significant impact on my sense of safety and comfort during the exam. I share this not to criticize the entire practice, but to encourage greater awareness and sensitivity toward patients who may be experiencing sensory overload. DR. BAGGA a more mindful and respectful communication style would greatly improve the patient experience. I left ... and I STILL cannot afford an eye lubricant. I will NOT be back for care. read more

I would give them ZERO stars if possible. My wife had an appointment to see a doctor. She waited over an hour. As part of her exam she got a prescription (for glasses). We ordered glasses a few weeks later. She could not see well out of them. I took her to a different eye doctor to have this checked out. Turns out the original prescription was wrong, but my wife did not realize it at the time. They are professionals, right? I asked for a refund of the $60 prescription fee. They refused, saying she needed to come in to them within 90 days of the exam. Think this through: they wrote a useless prescription that falls outside the parameters (sphere and axis) of her previous 2023 prescription and her new current one. I paid for it the day of services as required. We ordered glasses based on it. Glasses are no good to her. All because they messed up the most BASIC THING you go to the eye doctor for. And they refuse to reimburse us the $60 prescription fee. If you can't trust them to write a basic prescription... Go somewhere else. We did. read more

I find it ridiculous that most of the people that come in are elderly. The staff sits at the front desk and sends patients to a kiosk to fill out the check in forms. Most all struggle and cannot do it and the front office has to help. Crazy to watch them struggle . They need to get rid of it. Whomever had this idea was not thinking. read more

I went to Dr. Silverstein at Shasta Eye Medical Group to have cataracts replaced. All the people who I saw in the visits to get me ready for surgery and having the surgery were professional. They knew exactly what they were doing. Dr. Silverstein did an excellent job informing me throughout the process and with the surgery. The night of my surgery he called me at home to check on how I was doing. A class business. The next day after surgery I could not believe how vivid the color was and how my vision was so crystal clear. I would recommend Shasta Eye and Dr. Silverstein to all my friends and family. Update on my previous one star review. Finally received the broken glasses back on the mail. Unfortunately they were not repaired and are still unusable. Some type of black abrasive was sprayed on them that I am reluctant to touch. This is what you get for &1000.00+. I've been going to Shasta Eye for many years for eye health concerns because of my type 2 diabetes. Dr. Trent kept me well informed. At my recent appointment I was informed that Dr. Trent had retired and I would be seeing Dr. Jitosho . Dr. Trent had me on a 2 year recall. Dr. Jitosho decided to put me back on a on a 1 year recall without any real reason. After the appointment, the front desk said I owed $5.00, I asked 'why' and was told it was for the prescription. I was not given a prescription. About a month later I received a bill for a procedure I was not advised I was getting, and also not told the procedure was not covered by my insurance. I called to complain but my complaint fell on deaf ears. Apparently Shasta Eye was sold to some large concern. I filed a complaint with Calif. Insurance commissioner. They found no wrong doing so denied my complaint. I got no choice in a new Dr. I had no say in the new procedure or that I would be paying for it. I was not informed about the 'why' of the $5. This is only in reference to the optical department. BEWARE, BEWARE! Very bad service and substandard products. The medical side, doctors and techs is excellent, a five star operation. However optical is anything but. We have been waiting over six months to replace the frames that fell apart after three months of use. Fortunately there are numerous other optical businesses in this area. You have been warned. Update September 21, 2022: Still have not received the glasses I paid for last year. Went to court last month, Shasta Eye Medical Group Optical representative Erika in a sworn statement told the Judge they were in possession of the glasses. The Judge ordered them to mail the repaired glasses to me. I have yet to received the glasses or any updated information from the company. I am currently awaiting instructions from Shasta County Court as to the next step to take. It originally took two certified letters from me to get any response from them. Looks like it will take two orders from the Judge to get any action from this optical department. Buyer beware! read more

OPTICAL DEPT ONLY (Doctors are excellent). I dropped off my glasses for repair early June. I still dont have them back and no one returns the numerous voicemails left and the 2 messages sent off the website. The Clinical Manager Erica Fung wont even be bothered to return my calls. I received a message in August asking me to bring in one lens. Like I have that? Of course it was left with the glasses. I tried calling that person back 5X with no call back. I guess I need to drive down there and just pick up the parts of my glasses they have not lost and take them elsewhere. I cannot recommend their optical department. read more

I have been a patient at Shasta Eye Medical group for over 13 years..During those years I have been fortunate to have general routine visits with watchful care regarding my vision with excellent care. This past January I had cataract surgery with Dr. Crum which went well, and in May I had Macular Hole surgery at the Retina Center in Chico and was followed with great care with Dr. Crum at the Shasta Eye Medical Group..I can't say enough about the care and sincerity of the staff and medical doctors here. Just a few weeks ago I was finally able to get a distant vision prescription from Dr. "J".. and amazing man..special doctor to get prescription ! So, I went to the area to look at what they had for sunglasses and Melinda helped me.. so kind , sweet knowledgable, knows her stock..Well, I decided on a pair, went to pick them up today .I was so disheartened. they did not fit my face at all, and to make matters worse, the frames were plastic, and couldn't be adjusted. I told Melanie..I can't wear these! she said I will speak to Esbech the office manager and we will see what we can do..meantime Melanie picked out a pair she thought I would like and sure enough I loved them. Esbech called me back, and offered to do a courtesy return which they don't normally. When I brought my disabled grandfather in last week the staff was helpful and accommodating to his individual needs. On every occasion Erica F the manager goes out of her way to help me with my frames and displays the utmost professionalism. Maybe it's just me, but today I had a appointment for an eye measurement, apparently I was wrong, I was told it was on November 1st, and that I was mistaken. November 1st day is supposed to be the day when I have eye surgery. So apparently what was already set up is incorrect, on my part. I had a problem in the past over a money issue, doctor told me one thing, then front desk told me I was wrong. I see why the office has such a low rating, perhaps too many employees working there, time to move on. read more

My mom, who is old, had cataract surgery. Thank goodness. This old lady was DRIVING and constantly complaining how foggy it is in Redding. I have lived here all my life and never have I ever seen fog in July or August. Dr. Trent was professional and his staff was comforting. The medicine given during surgery instead of drops was convenient. It was inconvenient that this old lady lives 200 miles away so had to stay with me for 3 weeks for the surgeries. The cooking, the cleaning, the mopping SHE had to do for me during her stay seemed to be inconvenient for her. I gained 9 lbs and my bed was made every morning. The follow up visits at Dr. Trent's office were informative and he was friendly. I'm glad, as well as all drivers in Northern California, the old lady was referred to Dr. Trent. read more

The five stars are for Dr. Crum, he's a rockstar. He was so funny and went along with all my bad jokes and still managed to keep things super professional. He made me and my poor boyfriend with rusty metal in his eye so comfortable. He even let me look into the microscope to see the little culprit blinding my man, which was so neat! The front desk is another story. Allison was wonderful on the phone, but once we got there all the other girls at the front counter were cold and short and downright unpleasant. No one likes working the front desk in a high traffic office, but either get better at faking it or get a different job. No one wants your attitude. read more

They refused to give it to me unless I paid. I got a new prescription from a new doctor at zero cost. Doctors are great BUT!!! THE EYE GLASS SECTION IS RUDE, INCOMPETANT, CLASSLESS AND FOUL. Over priced to start, but that's out if the personnel hands. What isn't, is the arrogance, willingness to lie, speak down to customers and have no idea of what they speak. These illiterate individuals have even crossed the line into INSURANCE FRAUD. Billing customers who within less than 24 hours cancel the order. First saying, we can't cancel it so too bad..then saying it took a manager to authorize the cancelation, then STILL BILLING OVER $700 an 86 yr old woman and even telling her to never come back when she went in to reconcile the bill she received. We are waiting to see if further billing or payments via care credit are taken at which time we will be pursuing Redding, DAs office and legal actions for fraud among other things. Again, the eye doctors are excellent but they need to fire some people or shut down that part.​​ read more

Cataract surgery at Shasta Eye Medical Group was satisfactory and U was pleased with the results. Dr Crum was very professional and his expertise was obvious. So why am I only giving this place 2 out of 5 stars? The answer is a service cannot just depend on the doctor's expertise bit must also hold up all ends of their service. And where they let me down was in getting glasses post surgery. So it took over a month to get an appointment, that's okay I can see fairly well post surgery and I have my wife to help me with driving. Then it took another, almost a month to have glasses made, again that would have been okay except for an extenuating factor. My wife had an attack of acute pancreatitis and went into the ICU of the local hospital. Every day I drove to the hospital in the morning and back in the evening. I managed okay. But then finally my glasses were done and I was excited to get them. During this time my wife had been a coma from August 8th through the August 24th. The day I went to pick up my glasses they were trying to wake her up and I was eager to get back to the ICU. But the eyeglass room was only allowing 1 person in at a time. I asked if I could just get my glasses and pay for them without all the rigmarole. But that was unacceptable and told no. So I left saying; "okay I get it". The next day I called from the hospital ICU and asked if I could pay for the remainder of what I owed for the glasses and come by and pick them up as I would be in a hurry, pretty much for the same reason as the day before. I was able to pay for the glasses over the phone. But when I showed up about 1 hour later at the eyeglass place, nothing has been readied. I asked the girl in the shop if she remembered me and she said I would have to wait as only 1 person could be helped at a time. Okay I understand but the customer and her were chatting it up about a lot of things not related to the purchase or ordering of the glasses and I restated please could you you just get my glasses, I needed to go. Then the customer she was with said: " I hate people like that" and the employee of Shasta Eye medical group said: "I know ..." Finally someone was able to get the glasses that I had already paid for. They were very rude about it and the only case that came with a more than $ 400 pair of Oakley glasses was a minimal case that wouldn't protect them. This was just handed to me with no words or explanation. So I left as I really was eager to get back to the ICU. But at least now I could see better for driving alone as I was required on my license to have vision correction. Yeah about a week later my wife passed away, I wasn't faking all this just to get a better place in the line. I didn't need the employees to stop and wait on me, I just needed them to be a little flexible in a special case and they were not having that. So now I will never go back to Shasta Eye Medical group and I will not have anything good to say about them. Not because of a bad doctor or a botched surgery but because as a full service operation they are supposed to be full service. All I heard were excuses due to understaffing. Well I have helped their problem because now they have 1 less customer to worry about in their under staffed predicament. Also I called them and asked to talk to them long before I posted this review. and all I received in response was crickets. read more

I used to see Glaucoma Specialist, Dr. Lin, however, he retired, and I was referred to a new doctor, who is not a specialist. Dr. Meyers gave me a consultation, but he completely contradicted Dr. Lin. For starters, I was diagnosed with glaucoma 15 years ago, and Dr. Lin was very familiar with my case. He prescribed me different eye drops over the years and has been monitoring my pressure. Dr. Meyers advised me to stop taking drops for the reason that the majority of patients do not take their drops, and they were pointless. He was rude and did not show any empathy whatsoever. Next, someone from the scheduling service has contacted me multiple times via phone call and letters to my house. I finally called back and tried to inform her of my experience with Dr. Meyers only to have her interrupt me to tell me I need to schedule my quarterly appointment. I told her I would not be seeing Dr. Meyers ever again and hung up. The next day I received another letter. The office staff is rude, and so is Dr. Meyers. read more

I can't say enough good things about my experience with Shasta Eye. I was recommended by a friend when I had a disturbing change in vision. They got me in very quickly and although they couldn't find the issue they did a complete exam and assured me that there was nothing structurally wrong with my eyes. The change in vision went away over the next weeks and it has never come back. My second good experience was when I was looked at for sagging eye lids. After my exam they told me that the procedure would be covered and I would be put on the list for surgery. My surgery was expedited due to some upcoming surgery for my wife, this was very helpful as I was able to heal before she got her operation. The staff was fantastic! The surgery by Dr. Crum was very successful and I am extremely pleased. He explained everything and has a great personality. I can't give them enough credit and thanks! read more

I was concerned when I read the other review for Shasta Eye when I was referred to Dr. Trent by my general practitioner. However, I only have good things to report. I had filled out all my paperwork using their online system a couple weeks before my appointment. I arrived 15 minutes early to my appointment so I had time to look at frames before my exam. My exam started on schedule and the friendly staff were great. I was done 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time with prescription in hand. I thought I was going to have to file a claim with my insurance, but they had everything available in their system and it only cost me my $10 co-pay. Bonus: I think the women working here are gorgeous! read more

Not surprised there is only 3 stars. This place is awful. Dr. Silverstein is incredibly rude and insensitive. My mother suffered a stroke and it has affected her vision. Dr. Silverstein was a recommendation from her primary doctor. Our first and only visit was a three hour ordeal. Three hours! My mothers stamina was not up to it and there was no sympathy whatsoever for her exhaustion. When she finally saw the doctor he asked if " the growth" on her face bothered her. It is a skin tag on her eyelid. She replied no and jokingly asked if it bothered him. He looked at her and said yes, its ugly. Not joking just full of condescension and mean temper. I was furious. I told him that was a shitty comment and her didnt even respond. After all of this her prescription wasn't even correct. It was not off by a little either but by a lot. This place is an assembly line and Dr. Silverstein in particular is a horror of a human. I would never subject someone I care about to this place. read more

If I could give Shasta eye center a zero on keeping us safe from the coronavirus I would. I took my 97 year old mother to get her treatment and the office was packed. The chairs were not 6 feet apart, people were in almost every chair. It is sad that they are not taking this seriously. Shasta county should do something about doctor offices. read more

I'm with the person who wanted to give zero stars because of COVID. Horrible, unsafe practices. The doctor was not wearing a mask, nominally wore a "shield" but even removed that when he came within inches of me. I was forced to pay an additional $40 for a test because I felt diluting my eyes (and driving) was unsafe. I asked for a prescription for contact lenses and found out when I went over to the Optician I had not received that...I have never been to a more unprofessional eye medical practice. Also, rather than write this review I asked to have the manager call me (she was not in until late in the week), two weeks have gone by with no call. Further, I followed up and called the practice twice trying to talk with the manager. No call back. If a medical office cares this little about health and safety, time to look for another, more responsible and competent, eye care person. read more

Friend of mine's wife referred me to come to Shasta Eye Medical Group to fix my glasses because of not great experiences at other places in town. I was greeted by Erica (I think she's a manager, everyone else was busy) when I arrived and she was just the sweetest person. I loved her energy and how on top of things she is! Im an internet shopper so i had lots of questions that she answered without hesitation or making stuff up like other places have in town. She did however talk me into a new pair of glasses that actually fit me perfectly, so i did end up spending more than i thought I would have just fixing mine. BUT; i'm in LOVE with my new glasses. If you wear glasses, you KNOW how valuable a perfectly fitted pair are! Thanks Erica for all your help! As busy as the store was she still took the time to help me out and answer my 1000 questions. My experience with Dr. Chris Lin and the staff at Shasta was very good from start to finish. The cataract had left me nearly blind in one eye but after the surgery I had perfect vision. So good in fact I was able to cancel the appointment for glasses as they were no longer needed. My grandson has recently developed eye issues that testing thus far has failed to define and so we were referred to Shasta Eye. I am relieved to know they will be treating him as I have the utmost confidence in them. read more

Dr. Bryan Crum and his incredible assistant Maricela are exceptional! I've been going to this place for years. This last time I went (9/20/2017) was outstanding. From the moment I signed in and greeted by the front desk staff, to the staff putting me through the usual "pre-exam" measurements, through the actual exam and all the way to the end where I picked out my new glasses each person was professional, courteous, kind, and helpful. All my concerns were addressed and all my questions were answered thoroughly. Dr. Crum is NOT "knife happy" and reassured me I could take as much as needed to make my decisions. Shasta Eye is an assembly line business. Read the two-star reviews. My husband had cataract surgery by Dr. Trent. We were not at all impressed with the surgery center on Butte St. The intake prep room was crowded and noisy with staff talking loudly including personal conversations. NOT a calming environment. Don't believe anyone who tells you cataract surgery is easy and painless; it is NOT. Staff were not sensitive to the patient's experience. They were impersonal, rushed, and only about 75% attentive. For example, my husband had a "no drops" procedure. The prep staff failed to notice this, which was written on the front of his folder, and started asking him if he'd taken his drops. My husband, who was already anxious, got confused thinking he had not done something he was supposed to do. Finally the tech looked at his folder and apologized, but before leaving told him again not to forget his drops! There was a general lack of finesse and care from the staff. Dr. Trent became impatient when my husband had a hard time keeping his eyes wide open, looking down, with super bright lights shining right in his eyes. It was very painful for him. A tech complained when my husband blinked when she tried poking his eye with her marking device. They don't prepare you very well for what is going to happen. After the surgery a tech was giving my husband verbal instructions while he was still too sedated to remember what she was saying. Big hurry to get him out the door. At the end a tech guided my husband out to the car without connecting with me in the waiting room. It was very bright outside, very painful when you've been dilated and just had surgery! There were sun glasses in the packet he was handed and she didn't tell him and didn't make sure he had them on when he went outside! My husband is not looking forward to doing the second eye. They get away with this kind of service because they are the only game in town for cataract surgery. This is Redding for you. They could do so much better. read more

Great full service eye care! I have seen two of the doctors and both were personable and not in any rush. The treatment I have received for my eye condition has been very successful. I have had no issues with the billings and a couple years ago when I got new glasses that all went smooth as well. Everyone is super pleasant and I highly recommend Shasta Eye. read more

First time coming to this practice. The receptionist Lisa went out of her way to be a total catty bitch to me and at 0700 am too!! As the face of your clinic, Dr. Silverstein, you should consider reprimanding this employee for having a bad attitude and attempting to be controlling bitch. She is a heavyset dirty blond w highlights-about 30ish with a horrible disposition. I presented for my appt and she proceeded to tell me that my spot was at 0700 and I had arrived at 0702. She felt it necessary to tell me that 12 people had already checked in because I was not here at 0700. 5-star rating for my cataract surgeries - great result with Dr. Silverstein, and great staff. No issues there. The optician side of the business however, has seen the last of me. I am a cash customer, but I buy good glasses which I take good care of, and I have several pair. They gave me a small discount on a frame some years ago, which I was grateful for. But their prices, even just to get new lenses in my good frames, are exorbitant - they must be the highest prices in the county. And you'd think, with the robust surgical practice, that there would be some kind of express service for us surgical patients whose glasses literally won't work anymore, but nope - at least a 7-10 day wait. In desperation, I paid to have them put new lenses in a favorite pair of frames, and it's costing me as much or more than the great frames and same service at Warby Parker. There are less expensive options in this town, and I've been happy with Site for Sore Eyes, so they're getting my glasses business from now on - and I'm getting several pairs re-lensed, so there's profit to be made. Glasses frames are a racket anyway, so if you can take the time, shop around. read more
