Things and stuff in Redding…read more.. The coronavirus changed the way people live and how businesses operate. Redding has plenty of outdoor activities from hiking to fishing to kayaking... not to mention within a 30 mile radius of Redding are more than 600 square miles of State and National Parks and Forests open to public access. You'd be complying with social distancing! Redding is known as the "Trails Capital of California" unfortunately, I'm not an avid hiker. I live through hiking photos from seasoned hikers, Elmer and Shayla. I do enjoy sightseeing and beautiful scenery so we do "some" hiking. Redding experiences over 300 days of sunshine, Redding is the 2nd sunniest city in the U.S and last week we came to spend a weekend here. It was 108° degrees, humid, then the following day thunderstorm! Forbes Magazine named Redding a "Top 10 Fishing Town in North America." The Sacramento River runs clear and cold right through the heart of Redding and is California's longest river beginning near Mt. Shasta and flowing into the San Francisco Bay. All of Redding's drinking water comes from the Sacramento River. Redding is home to the Cascade Theatre which opened Friday, August 9, 1935. It's got some historic background behind it and, supposedly, it's haunted! Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 it remains temporarily closed. Under Governor Newsom's plan, venues like the Cascade Theatre will not be able to reopen until stage four. Damn this pandemic! Lastly, we saw for the first time The Sundial Bridge. The bridge is pretty famous and is a California icon and one of the largest working sundials in the world. It is a pedestrian bridge over the Sacramento River in the heart of Redding. Beautiful bridge. Saw it in the daytime and nighttime. Redding is not exempt from wildfires. In July 28, 2018 the city experienced one of the California's large wildfire that burned in Shasta and Trinity Counties -- The Carr Fire. This was big news in Northern California. The fire burned 229,651 acres destroying many homes and structures and, sadly, deaths. I found it ironic that the Carr Fire was caused by a car... yup, the fire started when a flat tire on a car caused the wheel's rim to scrape against the asphalt, creating sparks that set off the fire. So sad. We have not experienced a good dine-in restaurant in Redding because of the pandemic. I'm not fond of takeout too much. Once in a while I like to be served inside a nice restaurant. Inside the cave, there are so many different rock formations. Each section, our tour guide gave many interesting facts and information. Be prepared to walked through hundreds and hundreds of stairs. Up and down. Some can be pretty steep and slippery. The ground inside were mostly wet and muddy. I will recommend wearing comfy shoes, hiking shoes, closed toes shoes or any shoes you don't mind getting tons of muds on it. It can get chilly inside the cave, so bring a jacket just in case. At the end of the tour, you get a chance to take pictures with the beautiful colorful formations. Once the tour is done, you will walk back to the bus stop to get a ride back to the boat. The boat will then take you back to the starting point. Plenty of parking. There are restrooms to use.

Dog-Friendly Adventure!…read more Lake Shasta Caverns was the perfect stop on our road trip from Portland to San Francisco! We were thrilled to discover it's dog-friendly and our pup loved every minute of it. The location is ideal for a midway break, and late May weather was absolutely beautiful. We arrived 30 minutes early and found parking easily. The gift shop kept us entertained while we waited, and the boat ride across the lake set the perfect tone for what was to come. But the real star? The caverns themselves. The natural beauty and the opportunity to explore with my dog made this feel truly special. Fair WARNING: you will get your steps in! The climb to the cathedral room is steep, and my partner and I, who are gym-goers with an active dog, definitely felt it. That said, the views (and the bats!) absolutely make it worth it. I noticed some older visitors and those recovering from knee surgery opted out, and a few families with small children were cautious on the descent, so know what you're signing up for. The walk back down requires careful footing so please take your time and watch your step. The tour guide wasn't as polished as I'd hoped and leaned a bit too playful for our taste, but honestly? You're paying for the scenery, not the commentary. And yes, it's pricey, but it genuinely feels like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Overall, worth every penny and every step. Highly recommend!

I ASSUMED it was because they wanted to do right by me and provide me with food since the JITB employee was such a d***. They had me sit in what I can only assume was the reservation waiting area but I was surrounded by people who looked like they don't even eat food. I waited and waited and was finally taken to my own private dining room. I waited there for HOURS only to be served with what amounted to a generic brand lunchable. When I complained to the uniformed server he was very very mean to me. This restaurant is HORRIBLY designed because they put a metal toilet in the same room where they serve you your meal. Luckily I didn't have to pay a dime because they made me hand over everything in my pockets earlier on. -1/10 WILL NOT BE PATRONIZING THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN!

We went there the next day and the company decided to come and try to attack us and get us out of there when we were picking up our boat that they were working on and they decided to get vindictive and put the boat outside of the gates as we were trying to get our paperwork. It got very ugly, and the cops refused to help us parents who had our adult with disabilities right there dealing with this scenario, very concerned on this police department, not abiding by the mental disability law ADA law section 501 to 508 was trying to do a report yesterday. I was given a fix it ticket for rolling at a stop sign which wasn't worth the argument. I go to…read morecourthouse to pay it and upon entering explained what I was there for. This skinny officer tells me there's no such thing as a fix it ticket being all cocky. I told him well that's not what I was told by the officer on the motorcycle. I handed him my original ticket along with a letter I received in the mail from the court. Then told him I need to pay it. He was cocky which made him look like a fool because I was right and he was wrong. So I get to the counter to pay my $25 ticket and I asked the clerk about my ticket. Guess what YES it was a fix it ticket and it's at the discretion of the office who gave it to me. So Mr. Cocky officer who stands behind the convaer belt upon enter you were WRONG..and your attitude needs to be adjusted because your not all that. The other officers standing around were very nice but the skinny guy with the mustache he needs his attitude checked before going to work. NEWSFLASH YOU WERE WRONG AND I WAS RIGHT.. Of course there is a handful of people whom to trust, who are not deceptive and possess integrity with pure motives. These humans work endlessly to serve clients compassionately and appropriately.
