I should state that I have never had trouble with the law first hand and have always been an upstanding citizen. My view does not come from personal experience but from watching others interact with the RPD. Where to start... Let's see, lets start with reaction time. Upstairs neighbor was being beaten within an inch of her life by her boyfriend. Called them and told them that there was a kid screaming and she was in possible life threatening danger... After that I called my brother who had half an hour before he had to get out of work. Not only did he show up first but RPD came about 15minutes after he was already there. He even passed by a few cop cars on his way. So took them at least 45 minutes. Cop told us they were used to that guy. I can understand if nothing could legally be done, but the way he spoke it sounded like he hopped the guy would kill her so they didn't have to come out any more. It's there job to show up to a call as soon as possible even if it's just to prevent him from hurting the girl any further. Treatment of people... Wow this one's not so good. So there is a video going around... It shows a police officer harassing a guy... So he looks around and see's the guy filming him and he goes bat shit crazy telling the guy he's interfering with the investigation. He leaves the suspect to come and throw the guy filming on the hood of his car after dragging him out ((By the way he can legally film an officer. He was also well away from what was happening.)) So the officer spreads him on the hood of the car and starts threatening him. His children start crying and the officer tells him, "You hear that... Your making your kids cry." I'm not sure from the vid but I hope he let him go eventually after he was done scaring the mans family. I also hope the cop gets some type of painful terminal illness. Okay next is reputation... The only people I know who like the cops around here are people connected with RPD by way of family or friends, and people who haven't seen them in action and just think, "Well I wasn't raped or killed today... They must be doing a good job." The truth is a lot of people meet CHP and think they are RPD which is laughable. CHP are a great bunch of guys as far as I know. More professional and polite to say the least. At least haven't seen one start harassing a guy because the punk caught the officer with his britches down. Yeah I run in a few circles and no one seams to like RPD... I won't say any names, but even a few retired cops I know say they are a joke. So some may say the whole, "They put their lives on the line... Blah blah." But the truth is no officer has any authority to harass or fail at their job due to ignorance, and blatant laziness. There is no excuse that can be given to defend that. If they start harassing or assaulting civilians without cause then I honestly do hope they get shot... After all if some thug did as much they would deserve the same. And if it takes them 45 minutes to respond to a call when the people live a few minutes from the station, then I don't think they are capable enough to protect us anyway. So in short where do I sign up? A badge and gun... Authority to do whatever I want to whomever I want... And best of all everyone better respect me because I do SO MUCH for the community... 10192024 i was approach by an officer at the rother elementary because an staff at the school accuse me of doing something to them. the officer stated it seem kind out the ordinary but wanted to get my side of the story. i ask the what was the reason for pulling me aside and if i could get an report about this conversation. officer stated no need to report this. i told the officer my son teacher mrs bisset felt like i was going to attack her. he asked why would mrs bisset state that. i explain to the officer my son was accused of sexually assaulting an child at the school. my child is 6 years old. mrs bisset stated it was an false accusation. school check the cameras and saw that the children were playing. i ask the mrs bisset could i see the cameras and would like an incident report. mrs bisset ask why would i need an written statement? i explain to protect my son and the other child. mrs bisset had an issue an making an written incident report and stated she felt like i was gonna attack her. the police officer was behind us as we were talking by the outside public lounge for parents by the back gate. i ask the officer what was the purpose of pulling me aside in public with my child? i asked was their any threats or accusation and he stated that an staff felt i was going to do harm to them. in all this event im with my son and picking him up from rother elementary school. as an concerning parent why werent their any written statement from the police officer when asked? i felt like my child rights were violated as mine. no one made an statement about my son being accused of sexual misconduct. why wouldnt their be an report? read more

We have been dealing with a property where drugs, prostitution, and car theft occur daily. While RPD sees nothing wrong with these issues we recently made a call in about a transient criminal driving up and down our streets as well as parking a mini bike ( most likely stolen) unregistered and not street legal in the middle of the road. RPD officer Jared Hebert responded to the call. We watched him approach the transient then proceed to climb on his mini bike with no helmet and ride around our cul de sac. I assumed he was impounding the bike but unfortunately he was having his partner take photos and video of the incident. We were in total disbelief and offier would act this way. Herbert parked the bike back in front of the home, let the man take it to the backyard then proceeded to checkout his new photos and video. My husband approached the officer with disbelief and asked to see the photos . Officer Hebert got very upset and proceeded to tell us he will no longer respond to calls in our neighborhood? This is how RPD treats their calls... so when they don't show up because they are so busy as rpd claims they only have 7 available officers.... you might want to check if the officer is instead out joy riding in one of the criminals rides enabling them even more! read more

I have lived in Redding for over 30 years and I give the police department credit for all they do....they have WAY too much to do for the number of officers, and they even make time to come when someone is worried for the safety of children, there are thugs on the street carrying knives as if they are going to stab someone, they try to keep the people in this city safe. This is a place high on the list for MANY crimes, meth, and too many "early" releases..The "city" aids in making this desirable for the homeless as they provide them with everything, while residents have to work for their meals .They have to put up with people yelling at them, fighting them, and shooting at them. If you don't want a visit then stay away from places with nasty reputations, stop getting wasted on the streets, quit being drunk in public, and lastly - if you don't like them - MOVE OUT OF REDDING. I am glad I am not a member of the force as I probably would beat the hell out of a problem, or shoot them if warranted! This Police Department has serious problems: Officer Stewart writes false statement, doesn't do investigation properly and looks like a tent stake. Sgt. Montgomery will breaks department policy, treat citizens with systemic abuse in main lobby of R.P.D. and destroys evidence. Sgt. Sheldon "SUPER DIRTY COP" and that's a compliment. Cuts fresh interview audio footage while you wait in man lobby for your copy. Ignores evidence while doing investigations, cuts lobby camera footage in R.P.D. to hide officer that destroy evidence, does not follow through, doesn't know that neglect and abuse in a crime. Does NOT bring very important evidence to interview as requested, likes to sit and node his head, I trusted Sgt. Sheldon, what a BIG mistake that was. They now take people to the hospitals where they have ex Shasta County Sheriff's with corrupt history of beating and killing people. Bonnie Jorgensen and Percy Gonzales work at Shasta Regional Medical Center and put 1799 or 5150 holds on people the threaten people to scare them so that anyone in their right mind would do anything to leave for fear of their lives. RPD, Shasta County Jail etc. I hate them all. My mother has never been a criminal but she got caught up with the wrong crowd here at South city park. My mom was clean off Meth for 25 yrs. Within 3 days of being in that park, she started Meth. I wish they could get a hold on that place. Whats worse, she did the meth for a few days, got arrested 2 weeks ago and was let out 2 days later. Within 6 hrs my mother was in ICU DYING. She is now DEAD. The jail says they do a medical clearance when I called to ask. Yeah right. My mother had so many infections, no voice, high fever etc.. The "medical clearance" would have shown she was sick and should have been escorted to the hospital instead of dying on West st!! read more

Officer refused to conduct welfare check on a house with a man that threatened and harassed me, an innocent guy on a usual walk, to not walk in front of his house on a public street. There's almost never a reason to deny a welfare check and this officer caused not only my safety, but everyone's safety in the neighborhood to be compromised. I went the next day to relay this concern to a Sargent, but after waiting almost 40 minutes I had to leave and go to work. Unacceptable. I love and support police officers. Sgt Schmidt and office #275 are patrolling the streets constantly harassing individuals especially those of non criminal behavior. As a federal employee I am totally embarrassed of the behavior of these officers. I crossed the cross walk apparently without a walk sign. Was told to shut my mouth and sit my ass on the curb, not to speak another word. 5 officers responded and yet how is Redding doing with criminal activity? So apparently it's ok to run into a building now in Redding! Charter was struck yesterday by a lady in a Lexus, and RPD came, took a report, then left. They did not give her a field sobriety test, nor a breathalyzer, not even a ticket! They let her just drive off to hit someone else. I've called the station several times since yesterday to complain about this, but unless it is an emergency, YOU CAN'T GET ANYONE ON THE PHONE! On the night of April 22/23 2021 I witnessed the Redding police act like the worst police in the country. They let a police dog bite over and over a man they had already subdued with 3 officers.
