I'm all for our police and what they do for us but the dispatchers need some serious work there was a huge accident on I-5 on both sides of the freeway near lake boulevard I called to report that I almost got hit by a vehicle and two other vehicles I almost had to like merge there were vehicles all over the freeway they're not even parked properly and then I called to talk to a supervisor in dispatch to report what happened and they were like oh no we were sitting right there we know what the phone call was no they don't because the guy was trying to get me off the phone and I was trying to report a Ford explorer driving like an idiot in zero mile an hour traffic almost running me off the road and nobody cared and I got talked to disrespectfully by both dispatch and the supervisor and what's really sad is our community trust you guys and we pay your guys's bills and seriously I have no faith in the Reading Police department I do not and thank you for standing up for your dispatcher who totally disrespect read more

Had an incident with a civil situation, called the cops and told him we may need them that we had an adult with severe developmental learning disabilities, low spec, autism, oppositional, defiance disorder, and ADHD and that we are dealing with a company that is extremely threatening towards us, they refused to help us or deal with it until the incident had already happened. We went there the next day and the company decided to come and try to attack us and get us out of there when we were picking up our boat that they were working on and they decided to get vindictive and put the boat outside of the gates as we were trying to get our paperwork. It got very ugly, and the cops refused to help us parents who had our adult with disabilities right there dealing with this scenario, very concerned on this police department, not abiding by the mental disability law ADA law section 501 to 508 was trying to do a report yesterday. Sergeant never followed up or called very disappointed have had issues in the past concerning that they do not know how to treat special needs with the upmost priority... read more

Typical for this department and the overall community consensus seems to be accurate that RPD needs overhauled and restructured completely. The investigative unit sergeant is absolutely clueless. The detectives are completely inexperienced and I feel sorry for our community. Another element of why this County has such a high crime rate and it continues to escalate because they know RPD is a systematic failure and criminals can get away with anything. I have filed complaints with the Attorney general mayor's office district, Attorney City manager, the FBI, the state and everybody that I possibly can because this is a travesty. Does anyone know that banking surveillance footage expires after 90 days yet? Detective coffered subpoenas these records near day 100 and then states my cases not prosecutable. If this incompetent detective did his job properly there would have been plenty of prosecutable evidence so they haven't heard the last of me. read more

I would give a lesser rating than 1 star because "a little leaven levens the entire loaf" and RPD has some bad character that is being allowed instead of dealt with to protect the public immediately. Perhaps Chief Barner just does not know for sure yet? Get investigating it, friend. I am going to help him identify one liar and fabricator that may have even coerced a false statement as well as 100% Falsified a Report about my Statement. This has been brought into open court now and will be seen through to the end. I have made 3 requests for the Body Cam footage of interactions where the cameras should have been (unless something to hide) per normal procedure and in accordance with California law. Hold letters to preserve had to be sent as its been nearly a year of stonewalling to protect inaccurate records of TWO interactions that are now before the COURT! Justice is thus far reserved for those with money and power... it is sickening- and in desperate need of a reckoning. I pray it be so. Amen. read more

As a private security professional, I've come to know RPD as a top flight organisation. I've relied on them for many incident responses and while sometimes the wait is longer than I would like they've always performed professionally and ethically. I know the dept is short staffed for the needs of the city but they consistently exceed expectations. Chief Barner is a dynamic leader and works well with, and has the respect of, his officers and the community. The K9 units are worth their weight in gold and I am a big fan of them. My only recommendation is that the City Council allocate more resources for more officers. read more

R.P.D. is a joke to me . They do not have a site - supervisor . No one is stationed on a regular basis on Churn Creek Road near Shasta Hills Estates ; where the speed limit should be 35 miles an hour . People drive anywhere from 45 miles an hour to 65 miles an hour . I live on Yolla Bolly Trail in Shasta Hills Estates . The noise doesn't stop until 11: 00 p.m. I blame the Bethel Church this . People that live in Redding Ca. know why . read more

We live in Alrose Apartments. Several neighbors have called about a man breaking into vehicles. Now he is lying on the second floor balcony trying to get in a woman's apartment! Someone called 40 minutes ago! Where are the police??? Maybe close those donut shops? Finally ambulance arrived, almost two hours later, and the man is dead! Thanks guys! You really suck! read more

It amazes me how the redding police are allow to lie about what happen, I was turning into the south Arco, I stopped looked all ways before turning at two in the morning, the officer pulls up behind me in Arco saying I flew without regard to anything, I knew then we had a liar. I have always supported police departments in many ways over the decades. I have always been respectful and helpful in any way possible. I am always polite, especially to law enforcement. Today an officer accused me of calling him "a jerk." I told him I absolutely did not say that and he responded that I was making him mad and I shouldn't make him mad, insinuating (along with his body language) that he would hurt me. How do you ask me questions then cut me off, tell me not to talk, tell me not to sit down, tell me I can't drink water? If you're asking questions then listen to the answer. If you're going to do a monologue and just stand there intimidating the person you're talking to, then do you need me? What good is asking questions if you're just trying to intimidate the person? I understand Redding is a tough place. But you can still conduct law enforcement duties while being respectful. What this officer did - he knew what the rules are he has to follow. And he was doing everything possible - maybe even in the legal gray area - to intimidate and harass me. Look at your reviews. Look how you've been in the news. Your department and your officers can do better. read more

I've been calling dispatch all morning and no one is answering the phone. I needed to report a male harassing me in a parking lot but no one answers the phone. I also tried the other extensions and you can hear someone picking up the phone and hanging up on me right away. What in the world is going on? Is Redding dispatch always this useless? read more

I had a similar horrific experience from many of the Yelp reviews and public news, including that by C B. Chico, CA, that evidence was tampered with to get the results they wanted. I filed a complaint and found this department's priority is to get the results they want, corroborate and collude regardless of the actual facts of the case. I encourage everyone to speak up and also read the unrecommended reviews. Somehow, negative and undesirable reviews are systematically being deleted, withdrawn, or put into the unrecommended. If you've been abused by the Redding Police Dept, know that you are not alone. There are places that will look at your complaints, including the FBI etc. read more

A few nights ago I was told that I could not sleep in my car in the city of Redding. I could sleep on county land. I asked about Jones Valley and West on 299. I went to JV that night. It used up a lot of gas. So last night (now even) I went west to Swazey road: county land. I was just wakened by the Sheriffs office cop and kicked off the county property. I was told I could sleep on Walmart parking lot. OR. Truck Stop OR a rest area. SOMEBODY needs to learn Compassion. I am not a dog AND I don't like being played with. But I have learned to not pick a fight with jerks. The Sheriffs office guy was a jerk. And the Redding cop LIED ABOUT SLEEPING IN THE COUNTY. So tonight, what's left of it, I am in the Walmart parking lot in Redding. Dare I put up my window coverings? And, finally, Why was I not given this information by my social worker? read more

Denied the same to go to hospital, left me and dog in car with heat on, dog laid on back and I almost passed out, while they stood out the side door talking and laughing then said your getting a get outta jail free card, said was too late ti talk to an attorney or hospital to prove not on anything and more, the bad ones need to go, bad ones are the problem. These MF ain't shit. I been watching my neighbor beat his broad from my window all day. They pulled up, didn't even knock on the door. Watched the whole thing. They walked up to their gate unlocked the gate, talked to a construction crew and walked off. Lazy ass MF. Rather watch a woman get beat than write a report. read more

The cops are corrupt and don't care about the people in this city. Don't expected them to show up if you dial 911. They only seem to show up when something is as bad as a car accident or murder. Tried to report a domestic violence incident where a man was beating his wife. They never bothered to show up. Found out from some neighbors that them not showing up is a common occurrence. read more

Was eating food at in n out in my car and there was a police car that drove through the parking lot and then all the sudden took off at full speed while in the parking lot and almost hit a couple of teenagers crossing from the entrance to the parking lot. This review is only a reflection of the people that I spoke with which were at the customer service desk where you turn in lost items. I had found a nice new iPad on the street in my neighborhood, and after having my kids go door-to-door asking if it belonged to anybody nearby, we decided to turn it in at the police department. I specifically asked the receptionist if I could reclaim it if nobody claimed it. She responded that yes, if nobody claimed it, I could come back in and pick it up. After waiting 30 days, I called to ask if anyone had claimed it, and was told that I could not come back in and pick it up because it was a digital item and potentially stored someone else's sensitive data. Even though I couldn't unlock the iPad because it was protected with a PIN, I could read the alerts that had popped up which were enough to let me know that it belonged to someone that attends Bethel Church. My next course of action would have been to take it to Bethel Church or even to email the person that had sent an email to the iPad owner that had popped up in the alert to do some more detective work and to find the owner. I fear that the police department did not make any attempts to find the owner and would not return it to me to let me continue to try to find the owner. I guess my biggest criticism is that I never got the impression that anyone cared, but just that they were going through the motions with their bureaucratic rules. read more

I don't have a lot of experience with the police I have a pretty clean record and even a good driving record but the last 2 yrs I have been Redding I have had a crash course in the failure of the system and the corruption of police officers. I can image these group of individuals actually being the ppl we need to be protected from. They do not up hold the law and but a dent in the governments wallet by patronizing the decency of the profession of those who wear badges and are proud to serve our country domestically. The crime rate in Redding and the drug usage can all be explained by the lack of formal training and ill respect for the job these individuals hold. GOD BE WITH US! read more

I have called 911 8 times, 3 were for an ambulance, 5 for police to respond to fights, drugs being sold and screaming neighbors at 3 in the morning. The ambulances took 45 minutes to 1.5 hours. A cop showed up 4 hrs later ONCE. The cop was covering a shift and bored early in the morning. When my truck was stolen a non sworn tech came 36 hours later to take the report. He messed up the VIN on the report. I had to wait over a week to get the written report, correct and turn it back in and pay a fee to correct it!. Needless to say, the truck was never recovered.Unless there's blood or a gun they don't show up. I started driving myself to the hospital since. On a side note, we had a small electrical fire in our apt's laundry room. I live 1/2 block from a firehouse. They got there fast and proceded to break out hoses, put on their smoke helmets and wait 20 minutes before looking at the source of the fire. In the meantime another resident and I grabbed 2 fired extinguishers and put out the small fire. Welcome to Redding. read more

After having a wallet stolen with my driver's license and all of my credit cards Officer Adams went the extra mile for me and for two days helped me with a report on the theft. Once I got the specifics from one of my credit card companies on "her stolen rampage" Officer Adams continued and went further to even go to Walmart, that was very helpful to him(!), in viewing video footage of her using my credit card to make her stolen purchases. Again and again Officer Adams informed me, asked good questions, and continued in the search on my behalf - one of so many that happen far too often here in Redding; watch your belongings closely at all times! Thank you again, to Officer Adams and all the Redding Police Department, you have and will continue to make a big difference to each of us! read more
