I brought my sewing shears and a kitchen knife to be sharpened here yesterday, and I'm really happy with them both. A couple of little nicks on the blades of the shears were driving me nuts, but now they're nice and sharp and much easier to use because the guy sharpening them (didn't catch his name), also loosened them up a bit. And the price ($3 for the scissors and $5 for the knife), was totally reasonable. I'll definitely be coming back, and bringing a couple more knives to be sharpened. I took my straight razor here. The woman took one look at it, told me what was wrong with the edge (it had rolled) and to come back in a few minutes and it would be ready. The difference in the edge is unreal--the blade just floats over my face now giving the kind of shave only a barber shop can give. Well, I found another winner here thanks to Yelp! I called after 5 pm on a Friday, and was still able to make an appointment for the following day. Jesse came and picked up five of my knives from my food truck (Rip City Sandwiches) , sharpened them to perfection, and returned them to me within an hour. I took my well-loved (read: abused) 8" chef's knife in to this lovely woman today. In five minutes (and for $5) she had it sharper than it was brand new. She also very kindly took the time to show me how to properly use a sharpening steel. I'm better informed and better armed thanks to my visit to her charming shop. Goddamn it feels good to get excellent customer service! Her sharpening rates are based on the size of the knife and are absolutely reasonable. I believe it was $4 for 7" and below, $5 for 8" and $6 for 9" and above, but don't quote me on that. She told me she adds on an extra dollar for bread knives. There was a sign up that noted they prefer cash, but will accept cards for transactions of $10 or more. Luckily, there is a Plaid Pantry a block away, so I was able to scamper up and grab cash from the ATM. By the time I was back, my knife was ready to go. What turnaround! Visit this shop. Knives as sharp as the devil himself. Turn around was 30 minutes. $32 for the bargain (set of 8 kitchen knives). Friendly service and good advice on using my knife steel to maintain edges better. They'll accept credit cards and checks, but pay with cash if you can and help out a small business. Go and your knives will thank you for it. read more

Really wanted to like this small local shop, but... Brought over a Reel Mower for sharpening blades. Harmony (owner?) curtly and gruffly took it, quoted a price and said it will take 2 to 3 weeks. No written Work Order of any kind; just take her word. After 2 weeks I called for status. She gave me a lecture about interrupting her with my annoying call and sternly instructed me to just wait for her to call me. After 5 weeks I drove over (I was too scared to call). A disinterested guy shrugged, looked around, and eventually found the mower NOT worked on. No apologies; not taking ownership of the problem. So I just took the mower to another shop... should be ready next week (with a smile and a written Service Order). read more

Very happy to have found this place. The woman took a look at my knives (two chef's knives - one traditional, one Japanese), said that it'd be $9 and they'd be ready in ten minutes. I hopped over to Trader Joe's and then came back and picked them up. I just chopped up an onion. It was like slicing through jello. These things are super-sharp. No parking lot, but it's on the north side of Sandy on a block without much retail business happening, so I was easily able to park right in front of the door. Highly recommended! read more

Since we've moved to Portland a couple of years ago I've been taking my knives to the butcher at QFC for free sharpening. I didn't completely trust him with my knives, but there just didn't seem to be a professional, well-priced bladesmith between here and Beaverton. Then, at long last, a recent Yelp search brought up Sharpening4U and Yelper Johnny U.'s five stars. I took several knives there today, mentioned the Yelp discount, and got my über dull knives back all sharp and shiny a half-hour later. The prices are good, the service is friendly. A total gem of a service businesses. Even our crappy knives have a whole new lease on life after their quick visit to Sharpening4U. Harmonie was a total delight and answered all our questions about knife care in thorough detail. Girl knows her stuff! And you can't beat the price - $5 for sharpening larger blades (even a serrated bread knife) and $3 for the little ones. And our knives slice through everything like a breeze now - it's amazing! I also liked her very complete warnings about blade safety. Now, we know these cheap Hamilton-Beach knives won't hold their sharpness forever, so we asked Harmonie for advice on better-quality culinary knives in which to invest in the future. She took all the time in the world to discuss our options - and since they don't have a retail operation, her advice was totally objective. Super advice - complete and practical. I needed to sharpen my knives. I am very selective and very discerning about the quality of knife sharpening. I found this place via the reviews and after leaving a message and receiving a call back in less than 5 minutes, I asked about her sharpening system and she explained to me that she uses a triple hydro system, grinding stones with water. She also offers same-day service if you drop your knives off by two. I chose her business partly because of her reviews, but also because I have a bias against the hipster chefs that are at the other places. I have dropped into one of the other shops that sell knives and also offers to sharpen and read some of their reviews and it was just as I suspected. I am not one of those chefs that has or ever wanted to have the several hundred dollar handmade knives... I am pretty basic. Some German made knives, a few Japanese, high-carbon blade knives, and a few handmade knives. Anyway, Harmony did an amazing job, gave me a brief history and overview of each knife, she could read its history and its past use, etc. by the condition of the blade and the edge. She knows her stuff. I enjoyed chatting with her and I learned some more about knives and how to care for them. She is definitely going to have my repeat business! read more

I originally took my knives in to be sharpened Feb, 2012. I just took in my knives to re-sharpen on Jan 6,2018. That is five years between sharpening and the knives were still in pretty good shape. Now I use a steel to restore the edge and I always keep in a knife block. However they always go in the dishwasher which is a sharp knife no-no, but as long as they don't bang around your fine. This little place is the best. In the past when I wanted my knives sharpened I'd have to leave them for several days. That does not work for me. I cook and use knives everyday. I do have a very good sharpener but every once in a while you need them done by a pro. Plus they do serrated knives,scissors,blades ( like those on a paper cutter) you name it,they do it. I've used this business twice, and both times my knives were done in less than 20 minutes and returned razor sharp. Bottom line: these people are knife professionals, and will treat your knives with more care than you do. Also, they are friendly, fast, and their prices are fair. I shave my head and face with a straight razor. I dinged my straight razor on the sink while shaving and it was a really bad ding. I checked my options for having said ding taken out of the blade and bringing said razor back to shave ready status. Option 1: Buy hones to do it myself plus learning curve. Close to &200.00 Not a great option. Option 2: send razor to online service that I don't know much about but promises good service and will keep my razor a minimum of 2 weeks. Well... Not crazy about that one either. Called Sharpening4u and decided supporting local is the best thing for me and for the business. It was a really great experience. I walked in, and was greeted with the best customer service agent. A small 8 lb. example of canine wonderfulness. The lady very professionally honed the ding out of the razor, sharpened it, and gave some great advice for both its care and care of other implements in my household that are not usually in forums or other literature on the subjects. Based on the enthusiastic reviews, I took in 7 of my very best kitchen knives, all of them top brands. Cut to the chase: they did a fine job and it only cost $20. The place is pretty down home. They don't give you a receipt when you leave behind your $200 worth of slicing treasure. You just come back later, or the next day, and they dig around in the stacks and eventually pull out the plastic container which contains your knives. Super reasonable prices and excellent quality sharpening are yours for a song. They also do lawn mowers. The place was filled with them. Shop local and go for it with these guys. read more

Thank you Yelpers for recommending this wonderful local shop! We brought in two cleavers, a boning knife, and a chef's knife. They belong to my elderly mother in law. Dropped off around 1 pm on a Friday, they were promised for pickup after 3:30 pm. We returned to pick them up at 5:30 pm. The owner not only had them done, she explained WHY she applied the edges the way she did. She actually heard my comment about who owned and used the knives. Her decisions made the knives easier and SAFER for my mother in law to use. She brought three of the knives back to life for their intended uses. The chef's knife had lost too much edge to be used as anything else but a knife for slicing. If we had any complaints about the work, we could bring any of the knives back to the shop for rework. We were out the door for $18. While credit cards are accepted, please consider paying in cash. This reduces the shop's cost of doing business, helps out the owner, and keeps prices reasonable. Harmonie and Jesse are great! I took a drawer full of knives plus garden tools to be sharpened. She knew all about the different knives and how to handle them. They were done in an hour. She was able to put new serration on a bread knife that previously wouldn't have cut butter if it were hot. Now it cuts thick crusty loaves of bread with ease. Also, they have a nice selection of new and used domestic and foreign knives that are modestly priced. Super nice people as well. Highly recommended! read more

There is a reason they have a disclaimer that says they're not responsible for any injuries. Knives are returned to the customer so ridiculously sharp that if you even entertain the thought of touching the edge, your finger will spontaneously start to bleed. And what's with the cost? Don't let the lack of expense fool you into thinking it's a reflection of the work quality. You get champagne quality sharpening for the price of a generic soda. Enough said! read more
