I was beyond impressed with the care I received at Sharp Hospital. The staff truly felt like angels--every single person I encountered was kind, attentive, and absolutely amazing. I wish I could remember everyone's names, but a few who stood out were Faye, Rachel, Dr. Youngblood, and Dr. Bjornson. They made me feel safe, supported, and fully prepared for my surgery, which meant so much during such a stressful time. A special thank you as well to the nurses, including Rachel and Dwight--you all do incredible work, and I'm so grateful for everything you did for me. Nothing like a quick lil trip to the hospital for a second degree burn in the late night. Luckily for me. There was a great team there to help us out. Because it was late, we found parking right in front of urgent care. After getting wand down by security, we chatted with the front desk, filled out a quick form and after 15 minutes we were seen by the first nurse who did a quick check - Blood pressure etc, asked about any meds we were taking, and other general screening questions. Afterwards we were sent back to the waiting room where a doctor came and saw us ten minutes later. He did a quick check and went over some info and then 10 minutes after that, a nurse came and bandaged us up with some ointment and some referrals. Super quick and easy visit. There was about 7 people waiting to be seen and to be seen that quickly was a miracle. Thanks for the care and jokes you shared. Hopefully I'll never see you again but if I do, I know you'll take good care of us! read more

I talked to Sharp Coronado billing dept today about their third party laboratory/billing ( ARUP Laboratories ) I wanted to share my disappoint in ARUP billing. They have been billing me incorrectly for months now ( 5 MONTHS) and it be many calls with my Ins to correct it. Sharp billing doesn't care!!! and they don't want the fed back !! GUESS what? Do not come here for an x-ray, if you don't want to be paying hundreds of dollars. My bill for a left and right hand x-ray imaging is $755. --- I have carpal tunnel and was seeing Dr. Pallia from Ortho1 Medical Group from down the street. I was told that I was required to get an x-ray before my appointment. The front office recommended I go across the street to the Sharp hospital, where they do walk-in x-rays. We didn't even look at the x-ray for my appointment. I had minor carpal tunnel problems (which to me felt pretty major at the time because I'd never had carpal tunnel before), and Dr. Pallia simply moved and pressed my hand and wrists around. Two weeks later, I see my x-ray bill from Sharp hospital. It's a whopping $1356 pre-insurance. And $755 after insurance on my high deductible plan from UHC. I called UHC three times and also Sharp three times. The conclusion I've reached is that Sharp is the one charging me the initial $1,356 bill, and UHC figures out how much of that to cover. When I was on the line with Sharp, one customer service representative even likened going to a hospital to buying a Gucci bag. This is infuriating because I believe that simple healthcare services like getting an x-ray should not be compared to getting a luxury good. They will offer to you that you can get a 20% off discount if you're paying full. however, for my case I would still be paying $608, which is still an extremely exorbitant amount of money to be paying for an x-ray. You might be asking if I met my deductible. You see that's not the problem. In no sane world, should anyone be charged hundreds of dollars for an x-ray in the first place. That is the justice I'm trying to fight for by writing this review. --- My recommendations: Do not go to any hospital for an x-ray. Call your insurance first to ask for the cost, and look for a smaller private facility to do an x-ray. I'm a young adult new to health insurance, and that is the biggest lesson I've learned. I will take this away with me for a lifetime to avoid hospitals on a high deductible insurance plan. Hospitals will charge you an exorbitant amount of money for simple services because they have the resources in one place. --- Why did I write this all? You'll see that on my Google and Yelp reviews history, I have never posted a one-star review with such a long description before (besides the one to Ortho1 Medical group across the street with the same story). I am writing this as a PSA to anyone out there who might be going through a similar problem. I don't want anyone to go through what I did. No one should have to worry about how to fight off a bill worth $755 just because they got a basic x-ray service done. By the way, my wrist and forearm are on fire right now. I went into writing this whole review knowing that I would tire myself out for the day, but I still put my whole heart and soul into writing this. read more

Wow! Sharp Coronado has fantastic staff, providing superior customer service! My husband was here for a minor surgery, and I was stunned at how helpful everyone was. Starting his visit was the complimentary valet - what?! I even left and came back, and the valet was gracious enough to have me keep the same tag number and just provide it upon my return. The security officer "Little" Bill personally walked me to the outpatient pharmacy to make sure I didn't get lost (not hard to do). When I came back, again, Bill went into the surgery area to let the staff know I was here. Now... the medical staff - AMAZING. From my husband's doc, Dr. Leonard, and the nursing staff (Denise and others) were very personable, explained everything very clearly, and I couldn't say how many times we were asked if we had questions. I made several calls on multiple phone lines and left numerous messages in an attempt to make an appointment for Pulmonary/Sleep Health. No one ever answers and they never return calls. Update: not requesting servicing of my CPAP equipment. Requesting an annual appointment to review my usage data and see if pressure adjustment is needed. read more

"The Sharp Experience"!! Yes, what an experience. Trying to make a simple request for MRI images to be sent to another hospital. Imaging doesn't answer their phone! Says they'll call back in 24 hours - not true. Tried again and waited several more days - NOTHING. Called and pressed the "physician" line, hoping someone would answer - NOPE! Called the main number and was assured they would get someone. Rang for three minutes and no one picked up! Asked for the CEO Scott Evans - said they would get me someone in imaging. FINALLY got someone and got the red tape treatment. NEVER, NEVER before had this much trouble but, then again, this is the SHARP EXPERIENCE! read more

Let me start by saying the hospital would have gotten 5 stars but the parking is atrocious. Perhaps that seems harsh but I saw many people having to walk a fair distance to get to the hospital. The parking area associated with the garage is very small and difficult to park in. Regarding the hospital itself. First rate. I've used them several times for blood work and they are crisp, professional and ready to assist. Masks are still required and you have to change to a new one that they provide before they let you in. No problem there. I appreciate their diligence. Impeccably clean and well maintained. This is a gem in the island and definitely the place to go for routine or urgent care. read more

I have been coming to sharp Coronado since I was a child. Yesterday I was admitted & the staff were amazing. Sarah in ER was super sweet and attentive. & Brian with respiratory followed my care to ICU, then to the regular admittance floor & even upon leaving made sure I had a breathing treatment before I left. His care while there was by far the best respiratory care I've ever received. Another lady came in and asked if I wanted a certain mask on and I said no but she told Brian I refused my nebulae treatment & he came down and double checked and made sure I got it. I believe he just started there, please let him know that his care while I was there had left an imprint on me that I won't forget. Review for EMERGENCY ROOM portion only: Summary- I typically enjoy and put high value on the physical comforts of ER visits but didn't experience that at Sharp. I assume it's due to temporary construction. Staff is wonderful and it's evident they prioritize efficiency, safety, kindness, and quality medical care. Long version- As usual, I really enjoy the bedside manner, quality of care, and concern shown by the staff. They get patients in and out quickly. Besides vitals, I received one x ray and was discharged with antibiotics, cough pearls, and a steroid in under an hour from my arrival. However, it is currently under construction and I really don't like the outdoor cubicles made for the patients. I also feel that non critical patients don't receive the same level of care as they would if the ER was fully constructed and indoors. Sharp provides patients with a recliner as opposed to a bed. My old ER would provide me with warm blankets and fluids and take bloodwork, but Sharp didn't do any of these. I was especially surprised at the lack of fluids after I cited dizziness as an impactful symptom. I was also visibly cold- again, we are outdoors- and was using my jacket as a blanket, but had no offer of a blanket. If the outdoor space were disclosed to me upon arrival, I would have gone elsewhere. I wish they would disclose it so that patients aren't caught by surprise. In all honesty I would rate three stars but I know most people don't prioritize comfort as highly as I do so I gave four. read more

I have went here numerous times throughout the years, I appreciate how kind and quick the staff is in the ER department.

I have nothing but the highest praise for the service I received at Sharp Coronado Hospital, its outpatient staff and nurses, and especially by Dr. Shawn Bench on June 8, 2023. I met Dr. Bench one month earlier, at my pre-op meeting. He was very friendly and explained to me in easy to understand language (without once speaking over my head) the pros and cons of the surgery I needed. He completely and thoroughly answered all the questions asked of him by me and my husband. At no point did we ever feel any pressure from him to (1) have the surgery or (2) to finish up our questions so he could move on to the next patient period. By the time we were done with the pre-op meeting, I was raring to go to have the surgery. On the morning of the surgery (June 8, 2023), every single person I met couldn't have been nicer or friendlier! Everyone from the parking valet at the front of the facility to the person who took my insurance information and checked me in to the assistant who took me to the room, and to all the nurses who helped me, all of them made sure I was comfortable and asked me if I had any questions. The anesthesiologist, whose name I sadly cannot recall, explained my pre-op shots to me in very clear language. He, Dr. Bench, and the nurses had the best bedside manner. Their reassurances calmed me down and greatly eased my fears. The surgery went great! I recovered in days and just got the green light this afternoon from Dr. Bench to play golf again, albeit slowly at first. (He clearly hasn't seen my swing!) If you are with Sharp and need a surgeon, I could not more highly recommend Dr. Bench or the staff at Sharp Coronado Hospital. I had nothing but a great experience. (And, this was my second great experience at Sharp Coronado Hospital. My son was born there a few months before the maternity unit closed down.) P.S. I had my gall bladder removed. My husband contacted Sharp Coronado's pathology department and, one week after my surgery, my stones now sit in a plastic container on my mantle. This is a thing. read more

Dr. Scott Kunkel is racist, rude, and should be fired from this hospital. He talks in a very barking condescending tone, and yells over the patient. He rushes ALL the patient interactions, has no bedside manner, barely listens, and is just rushing everybody around. He is racist to people of color, and could honestly potentially harm them. I witnessed him talking down to the nurses, and disregarding the seriousness of patient concerns. He is rude, racist and disrespectful to the patients and acts as if he is above them. He talks down to them in a condescending tone. He talks WAY too FAST and needs to slow down, greet patients in a kind way. I confronted him and asked him to speak in a more professional tone. Then he started getting rude, and I asked him to not talk to us in a rude tone and to be more polite and professional, i said "theres no need for that, lets just be nice and professional." I caught it all on video, and he acted like I wasn't allowed to record which is my right. Anyone can record in the state of California, its one way consent, especially when dealing with a racist doctor like Scott. And he got upset when i tried to kindly ask him to be nice. I will be reporting him to the California Medical Board. Nurse Nicole K also needs to be less rough, she is the one who shoved the swab too hard up my nose. She also shoved a needle in my arm. Said glucose level of 110 was fine and dismissed me, even though its pre diabetic She acts like patients are stupid. Overall I would not recommend anyone to go here and I will be contacting the hospital and asking for an investigation as well for this unacceptable behavior. read more

I was admitted into the ER and they were doing their tests. doctor talked to me in the waiting room, loudly, no privacy. once I finally made it to a room, there was construction workers walking all around the hall and into my room and even removed the door to my room. very unprofessional, just very awkward experience. read more

this is probably the worst emergency department I've ever had to bring a family member. the facilities are completely third world. you walk into a tent outside the waiting room that seats a grand total of 10 at the most. my wife was in extreme pain & they showed zero compassion. when she finally was called back Dr Henneken examined her in the hall way & discouraged her from getting a scan for extreme back pain. don't water your time or money going to Coronado emergency department. read more

Sick or injured they have you wait outside in the cold. Barely any coverings... scattered blue sun umbrellas. I asked to wait in my car and I was told I would not be serviced. This is 2024. They can call a patients phone when it time for a bed so they can wait in the warmth of their car. During COVID Santee SRS did this. They can purchase heat lamps and large outdoor tents to protect from rain (which I already felt a few drops) and wind. It is 59 degrees outside. Sharp this IS NOT characteristic of what I know to be the SHARP EXPERIENCE. I know you can do better! read more

The ER staff is nice. The wait was not horrible and they ran a few tests that they should have and another they should not have. The ER doctor exams were pathetic. Not just for me but for other patients as well. The ER doctor's diagnosis was completely wrong for me. I ended up going to urgent care the next morning where the owner of that urgent care diagnosed me with 3 different conditions and prescribed me several meds to help which seem to be helping. None of the 3 conditions were part of the dx from the ER doctor or even close. Sharp ER doctor missed THREE THINGS. THAT IS BAD. I am 95% sure that if I hadn't gone to urgent care, I would have ended up at a different ER again due to this ER doctor's incorrect diagnosis and lack of treatment. I would not recommend this location for anything serious. read more

This is a difficult review for me to write. I was sent here from Sharp Memorial Hospital because my first choice was filled. There are some nurses here that I feel are here for the paycheck. There are some who love their work and go far above what is expected. That's true of lots of businesses. I was in a room that had a leaky toilet It also had roaches.One would think a big hospital like this could afford an exterminator. I can't complain about food. Sometimes portions are small, but it's understandable given the diet they have me on. Sometimes it takes a while for nurses to arrive when I hit call button. read more

i have been here 3 times in the past week. first time at 3 am due to severe cramping from a miscarriage two days prior. so fast so helpful so nice. next time at 8 pm to check my hcg levels. again, super fast super helpful super nice. only dealt with women aside from the male ultrasound technician who was very comforting. well today i have a very foul smell and everyone online says nothing to be ignored must go in asap. wait 2 hours for a man (ali) to not even acknowledge why i came in. just told me my hcg levels are lower than last time. great. why do i stink? he tells me its blood and placenta. how could he possibly know that without looking??? like seriously? two hours for some dickhead to tell me after 9 days of bleeding this sudden smell is blood and placenta? its FOUL and STRONG. also have bruises all over my arms from them trying to give me iv's. as a hormonal woman, this is the worst thing that couldve happened. at least check it out. urine sample. i dont know. i walked out read more
