If seeking EDM culture- stay clear. I won't be returning after last night (my first time attending…read morethis venue) and it's a shame bc I was really looking forward to it too. We went to see one of our favorite house DJs- Cassian. Extremely underwhelming to say the very least. I genuinely feel embarrassed for him and his team that they had to play a set in front of a half filled warehouse with absolutely ZERO EDM culture- literally sad. Especially bc Cassian typically plays in front of packed crowds all over the world. Durham did not show up for him. Visuals: The light production in this venue was less than mid, literally just one black light on the ceiling, which is super embarrassing for an EDM event. My college fraternity could pull it off better and we were some 18-21 year olds. There was one girl spinning her LED hoop which seriously made my night, I was dancing with her the whole time in the back bc those were the only flashing lights in the damn place. Idk if I had the wrong expectations but that should be a given for an EDM artists. Alchemy in Raleigh gets it. Safety: No metal detector when walking in either- which i was on edge about the entire night (not saying the crowd made me nervous or anything, but that's a huge safety concern). Drinks: Bartender ran out of crown apple when making my drink so she said "wait over here" (to the side) and started making someone else's drink who was in line after me- ok what the actual ****. Never in my life has a bartender stopped mid drink and moved to the next person in line. even worse, she pulled out the crown peach after and finished making my drink with that, and tired to pull it off hoping we wouldn't notice. that's one of the corniest things i've ever seen a bartender do lol.

My friend and I came to Annexe after attempting to go to Bar Virgile, which was popping (on a…read moreMonday night!). The BV server said that if we didn't want to wait, Annexe was their sister bar downstairs with the same kitchen. While BV's vibes are ~adult, sultry, modern~ Annexe is more ~young, party, fun~ Honestly, we were just hungry and didn't care too much. On Mondays, they have a $12 burger deal that comes with fries and a beer, which is a steal. As a not beer girlie, I appreciated that they allowed me to substitute a house soda. My friend is gluten-free and they allowed substitutions for her meal as well. The burger was good- not the best burger I've had in my life but tasty. Same with the fries. I got the Pistachio Orange house soda, which was interesting and refreshing, albeit a tiny bit heavy on the spices. My biggest qualm was with the wait- it took at least 25 minutes for our drinks (it wasn't super busy like BV) and 1 hour for our food (understandable I suppose with the shared kitchen). Now I was busy yapping with my friend so that wasn't too big of a deal for us, but I feel like it was notable. Service was also maybe a bit too attentive, with multiple attempts to grab our plates before we were fully finished- again not a huge problem for us in the grand scheme of things. Overall, a good option if all you care about is food and BV is too busy, but the vibes are completely different. 7/10 would recommend!

The expansive grounds provide a space to enjoy a retreat from the city. Take your drink and stroll the vineyard. You can take a seat on the patio, the courtyard, or any of the main building's three floors. I recommend the top floor. You get commanding views of ZincHouse's grounds. I've come during the day and at night. I love the nighttime ambiance. Order your drink at the first floor bar. Once you have a tab open, you can order additional drinks on the second floor bar. Local food trucks line the entrance and serve up good food. This is a strictly 21+ venue. No outside alcohol. It gets busy on weekends. I'm sure this place gets routine wedding bookings. I can see this place being a wedding venue. I witnessed a proposal on one visit (Yep, she said yes), so love is certainly in the air. Looking forward to more visits, camera in hand. I have a few pics I have yet to upload. Looking to create a series chronicling my visits.

I was not expecting to find such a beautiful jewel of a winery in Durham. I had seen reviews and…read morehad friends tell me how lovely it was, but I was still blown away at just how PRETTY everything was. My best friend and I had Friday, July 3rd off so we decided to get here when they opened at noon. There is what seems at first a long road from the highway to the winery. Since I was one of the first people there, I was a bit confused about where to park but figured it out relatively easily. Walking up to main building, I loved the view. I loved all the outdoor seating and the rooftop bars. I really liked all of the covered spaces. But since it was SO HOT, we decided to sit inside. We started with a pear cider that was delicious. ($7.50 pint). We went up to the roof to look around but decided it was more comfortable inside. I then got a Procecco Rose ($9) and my friend got a Moscato Rose. The bartender poured us samples of both and it would have been nice if we'd both liked the same ones and we could have shared a bottle, but no dice. We walked around the other buildings and would have LOVED to spent more time outside. But two drinks was all we needed especially since we didn't partake in the food trucks parked out front. We were there for about 1.5 hours and it really started to get crowded, so we decided that was our cue to leave. I got a Diet Coke (can $2) before I cashed out. All of the bartenders were super nice and helpful. Most seemed to know what they were serving and were knowledgeable about recommendations. Even the restrooms were beautiful. And very clean! I wore jean shorts and top, while my friend wore a sundress. I saw all sorts of different outfits so I don't think there is a particular dress code here. Overall this was SO MUCH fun. Will definitely do again when the weather turns cooler and will have a DD :)

There is no specific style of music...it's a variety of local and national talent...from bluegrass to kids' music, blues, jazz...you name it...I'm telling you, stay alert! We enjoyed a national talent on a recent Thursday night, having heard on That Station that Matthew Shuler (from The Voice) was going to be there. Uh...a four-chair turn on a Thursday night for $12? Sounded like the perfect time to check out this awesome venue. And it was. This is in downtown Wake Forest, right next to/below Sugar Magnolia Cafe Emporium. How cool is it to have a coffee shop/cafe, wine bar above an intimate music venue? A limited bar downstairs also, but you can bring anything you want down from up, including food. Fold out chairs, some tables, a few high tops. This is small and casual which is what makes it a one-of-a-kind way to experience music. Reminds me of some of the clubs from years gone by. Parking is not a problem. All around street parking.

The space is effortlessly charming, with a retro-cool vibe that feels authentic rather than manufactured. The biggest surprise was the bar program. The bartender was a far better mixologist than you might expect from a hotel lounge, turning out cocktails that would be right at home in many of Raleigh's dedicated cocktail bars. It's easy to see why both hotel guests and locals seem to gravitate here. In an era where so many hotel bars feel like an afterthought, The Lounge feels like a destination in its own right. Between the welcoming atmosphere, quality drinks, and undeniable character, it's hard not to fall for this place. I can't say enough good things about The Lounge or the Longleaf Hotel itself.
