Tip Top Tailoring - Located upstairs at the Wallace Center in St. Matthews. (Right on top of the Simply Thai restaurant). Who knew they had an upstairs?

After giving the zipper my best attempt at a fix, it became apparent I was not a DIY-zipper-fixer. So we set out to find an alterations shop. She thought she'd seen a place on Chenoweth Lane so we made a trip to a shop near the Feed & Seed -- turns out they only sell embroidery thread - so a quick yelp search of "alterations nearby" led us to Tip Top. I gave the number on file a quick call -- to make sure they were open & ask about pricing. A super friendly gentleman answered the phone and quoted me $10-15, depending on if the zipper needed to be fully replaced. The price seemed reasonable so we headed his direction. Following the map (thanks yelp directions), we ended up parking in front of Simply Thai. We didn't see a sign; but luckily, there was a small group of people walking out of the building to the left of the restaurant carrying dress bags (like they'd just had a wedding of prom dress altered). Up the stairs and to the left - down a seemingly dark & dismal hallway we found the door labeled Tip Top Tailoring. We walked in to find a very cluttered shop; chairs and counters covered with garments. It reminded me of my Great-Grandmother's sewing room when i was a child. Seconds after walking in, the gentleman emerged from the back. I presented the pants, thinking I'd probably drop them off and come back a day or 2 later - but after a "You got here fast", he immediately began inspecting the zipper. He picked up some thread & a needle and like a wizard; in less than 3 minutes he had fixed the pants and was handing them back. I was amazed at how quickly he'd inspected & fixed them. Even more amazing was when he told us, "Uhh.. $3.". $3! are you serious I thought! What a steal! Flabbergasted, we handed him the cash and thanked him on our way out. It's not often that I need something altered or fixed in a flash -- but if the circumstance ever was to present itself again; I'd not hesitate to go see the tailor at Tip Top again!

I dropped off a coat and trousers (both new with tags) to be altered back in mid September to be ready October 10th. I showed up on the 14th and they hadn't even been started. When I came back to pick them up on the 16th I was so shocked by how the jacket looked I paid and walked out to cry in the car. The coat sleeves are butchered. The lining is literally on the outside of the sleeve, they're uneven, and the stitching looks like a third grader did it. The pants were a full two inch different in the legs. I took both items to a different tailor to see if they were salvageable and there was so much fabric removed that the pants are going to be too short no matter what and the coat sleeved can't be fixed due to the loss of fabric. I have tried and tried to get in contact with the shop for a refund on my alterations at the very least, but realistically my clothing needs to be replaced. No answer over the last few days of trying to get in contact, and the voicemail inbox is full. The worst part, these were items meant to be taken on a trip to Europe for a specific event. because they weren't ready in time and I had full confidence in their abilities from past experiences I didn't order anything to replace them. I now have nothing to wear to this event as well as no time to have them shipped and received before my departure. Devastated is an understatement at the amount of money lost due to this.

I took it to this business to have the sleeves shortened and thinned; tailored to my proportions. He gave me a finish date of 1 month out. I decided to leave it. After a month, I returned and picked up the robe. Pricing was very fair. I tried it on. It fit very well. However, after wearing it at home for about 2 weeks, I noticed that my fingers were getting stuck in the hemmed part of the sleeve. Upon inspection, I noticed that the sleeves were not hemmed appropriately and that there were spots left unhemmed. Also, the threads were unraveling. I returned the robe to the shop. I explained to the tailor. He looked at me, gave me a dismissive look, and told me not to wash it so hard...that it should be washed gently. I explained that the robe was brand new when I brought it, and had never been washed. He gave me a look like I was lying to him. He said he would redo it, but in a very dismissive way again. He said it would take another month. So, I left it. I had forgotten that I left it there, and returned 2 months later to collect it. He retrieved it. Then, he looked at me and said, "it's been here a long time." That was it. I took the robe and left. I inspected it upon returning home, and it looks like it was hemmed appropriately. Also, when I went into the shop, on this second visit, he was speaking with a woman at the counter. She was being pleasant, but I believe also had a complaint. He said he would take care of it. She left. He looked at me, looked at the lady, and then rolled his eyes, and gave me the "whew...women" look. Any guy knows that's a very masagonistic and dismissive look. Trust me, every guy knows this look. Overall, a very poor experience in customer service, gratitude/appreciation for customers, and poor tailoring. I won't be returning!!!
