I have taken two different cars to Sharkey's and been pleased both times with their service. One car is eleven years old, so it needed an obscure part. Mike found the part without replacing the entire undercarriage of the car, which saved me some serious money! They play it straight with you at Sharkey's. Got my car inspected there in March 2020, and it was done in about an hour, and they called me to tell me when it was ready. The bill was $63.00. The gentleman who waited on me in the office was friendly and polite. I'll definitely take my car there again. read more

Took my car here and it look 3 1/2 weeks to get fixed. In my three and a half weeks of my car sitting in the same spot in the lot, I had been down there 4 times and called numerous times always with the answer "your car will be done tomorrow." Or "we will call you with an update." One time in those 3 1/2 weeks did he ever call me back. After Two weeks I checked in and he said he couldn't find the parts needed. My dad took down the TWO part names and was able to find them online in about 20 minutes. The original owner is no longer there and the new one has kept the same name and is going by the previous owner's good reputation and it's a shame. I made an appointment for June 15, 2011 with Sharkey's Service Station to have a rubbing noise repaired in the rear wheel of my car. On the way home after picking up the car, I still could hear the same rubbing noise, although it was quieter than when I brought it in. Also there is now a pulsation in the brake peddle when braking. I returned to Sharky's and informed Judy about the noise still being there and about the pulsation in the brake peddle. Judy accused me of calling them often today and putting pressure on them. I had only made two call to Sharky's that day. First. I had returned a missed call from Judy around 1pm, when she had called to give me a $200 dollar estimate and to tell me what parts were needed to make the repairs. I also called a few minutes before 4PM, when my friend who was giving me a ride to pick up my car, phoned me and said that my car was parked outside in the lot when he drove by, and he thought that it was finished. He wanted me to know if he should come over and pick me up. Judy said l could leave the car and they could fix it tomorrow. I agreed and started to leave. Sharky yelled at her from the shop, "No, it needs brake drums." Judy went into the shop, then returned and told me the same. That was a heck of a way to find out that it needs brake drums! That was not mentioned in the $200 estimate that I was given over the phone by Judy, nor by a follow up call. Since I went there with a specific problem, and the part of the cure was brake drum replacement, I should have been informed of the need for brake drums before they excepted payment for the repairs. When I returned their call around 1PM and Judy gave me the estimate then, that would have been the appropriate time. Even I second call after the first estimate would have been appropriate. I had also mentioned when I made the appointment and also when I dropped the car off that there was no hurry on my part as the car was a second car. I also stated when I dropped it off that I didn't need the car back today and since I had appointments at the Veterans Hospital in Altoona the next day, I didn't need it then either. Judy also told me that they didn't have time to test drive my car because another person bought a car in late that it still needed 3 more hours of work and the customer had to have the car back today and they closed in less than an hour. At that point I felt it was best to just leave. I walked out and Judy followed me outside yelling at me and repeating, "Well, what do you want me to do?" And stating that everything was coming down on her all at once. I told Judy that I was sorry that she was having those problems, and having to deal with another customers rush job but I expected to get what I paid for. She then accused me of demanding that they put the air conditioner coolant in for free. She then yelled," I just bet you want us to give you free brake drums." When I picked up the car, I had asked her how much would they charge to install a can of air conditioner charge that I had. She went in the back and came back and told me that they were too busy and I would have to come back and have it done another day, I asked again, how much would that cost when I come back? She flashed me an angry or irritated look, the stormed off to the garage. She returned and told me $19.95. I told her that since the car was a second car and not driven often, I wasn't going to worry about air conditioning for that car. I then paid my $227 bill and left. I told her that she makes a lot of assumptions, and she knows that I did not demand they install coolant for free. I then went into the garage and told Sharky that he just lost a customer. He said, "That's fine". When I returned home, I had a message on my answering machine from Judy. Sheapologizedfor losing her temper and she said that she was under a lot of pressure from other customers and should not have taken it out on me. I have saved this message. I trusted Sharkey's to make proper repairs. They did not. They knew that my car needed brake drums, yet failed to notify me of such. They with intentional deception, accepted payment for repairs that had not been properly completed, and also neglected to test the repair work that they did perform. There is no 'ZERO' rating, because that is what I would give this guy. Mike, the owner of Sharkey's, quoted me $269 for a new power steering pump: HE said that price included labor. I told him to 'do it,' because we needed the truck back. The truck is a 2006 Ford F150, and we did not want to spend a fortune fixing an old truck. When we went to pick the truck up this morning, the bill was $757! That's nearly three times the quote he gave me on the phone. Of course, Mike wasn't there, and his 'mechanics' said we couldn't get the keys until we paid. I'm betting Sharkey's uses this trick with a lot of customers. I, for one, will not stand for it, and am suing him for the money he charged for repairs we did not authorize. I have contacted the PA Attorney General's office also. read more

This business charged me 85 dollars for a "used" part when a brand new one was 89. The mechanic claimed he paid that amount at s&s salvage despite malenich and stoystown charging only 35. This is deceptive. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. The mechanic would not resolve this issue. Shady business practice. read more

I have been going to this place for over 15 years. I recommend this service station to all my friends. When I was a service manager for a local company this was the only place we brought our vehicles to get serviced. Their prices are fair and they fixed what others could not. Even when I moved out of town I still brought my vehicles back here to get serviced. read more
