Played a week ago, course was in excellent shape (minor issue was boxes were a bit chewed up). We had quite a bit of rain in morning but course drained real well. Pace was good, we walked and it took about 4:10, and that was with a few holes we scrambled a bit on. Greens were challenging (or I just couldn't putt) read more

I don't think I've met a more rude person behind the counter before in my entire life. I wish I could remember his name but I believe he was bald. The course had potential but I'll never go back. I played Shark River last July, first time in 20 years. I found the staff to be very accommodating and friendly. The course was in great shape. I am an average golfer...90 to 103. I ended up playing this course about a dozen times and intend to play more this season. Next to Hominy I think this is the second best county course. It has some very unique and challenging holes...the two narrow side by side short par 4's, the downhill/uphill par 5 with the "blind" second shot, plus several dogleg 4's and 5's and of course the monster finishing hole. I'm at the stage where a course like this is pure "fun." And frankly, I'm tired of Charleston N and S...too boring, and Howell is so so. read more

This is part of the Monmouth county courses, so unless you go for their "9 hole plus" deal or if you have a county card it is going to be very pricey for the quality. That being said I only do the 9 hole plus deal. It is $30 for a round of golf (18 holes) and a cart. The course is decently kept. Nothing amazing but as it is one of the cheapest courses in the county, it is definetly a good deal. The difficulty isn't very high and the distances are meant for the average golfer. There are some very fun short par 4s where if you take the driver you can be rewarded with a green in one, but the risk is very high. Staff is always very nice and the water coolers are posted every 4 or so holes. read more

Played here on a Wednesday and my friends and I (4-some) were very happy with the course and its conditions . Greens were immaculate on just about all 18 holes as well as the fairways . Tee boxes were a little chewed up but for October during an all around busy golf season for every course in NJ it was more than I could've expected ! Would definitely come back to play here anytime ! One of few courses I've played this yr in NJ that actually had water in the coolers and soap in the ball cleaners and to top it off there was a cart girl on a weekday !! Another great Momo County Course. Very challenging for one of the shorter county tracks. This place can humble any single digit HCP real quick. No Range though. A must play I think. read more

This review has nothing to do with the golf course itself, but the dynamics of booking a tee time. The course is average for a public track. I called the course and requested a tee time, and was told 3:42 was available, but that I had to book online. When I went online, there was an additional 12 dollar fee to book online, with a "pay at course" option. When I clicked that option, I was sent to a payment page for the 12 dollars. After hitting cancel (since I was paying at the course) it deleted my tee time. I then called the course to book the tee time and pay on arrival, and was told I had to book online, meaning that I would have to pay the additional 12. Not only should you not be charged to reserve a tee time, but the prices are incorrect when you book as they don't tell you about the online booking charge until the payment page. Change your prices to include the ridiculous "booking fee," or act like every other golf course on the planet and don't charge your players to simply book a tee time. You don't pay a restaurant to get a reservation, you pay for the food and drink that you consume. Obviously, I chose to play a different course. 12 dollars certainly is not the end of the world, but just the craziness of this duping has turned me off to Monmouth county parks. read more

Course was very well maintained, however my experience was tainted as soon as I arrived. Checking in was a mess; we had an 8:24am tee time purchased online. We arrived and were told we did not have that time. I had to get out my confirmation to show the gentleman who was still adamant that we did not have this time. Five minutes later he acknowledged that he did have us in the system and that he was mistaken, but then told us to "hurry up because (we) are late for our tee time". We were, in fact, on time and teed off prior to our 8:24 time. Tee times were so stacked that our group was both waiting for the group in front, in addition to being aggressively pushed from the group behind us to the point where I had considered calling the clubhouse to get them off of our backs and to stop yelling at us. The group behind was a threesome in carts playing from the senior tees and we were a group of 4 long-hitting walkers (with one riding). At one point this group teed off on a hole we were still waiting to tee off for due to the wait in front. We refused to let them play through as they had no business doing so; there wasn't an open hole in front of us and we were not playing at a slow pace. We had a ranger waiting for us at the 18th green to take our buddy's one cart ASAP as they were short on carts. He mentioned us playing slow and further left a bitter taste in my mouth. We played a beautiful 18 hole, 6600+ yard course in under 4 hours and 30 minutes, with none of us eclipsing the 100 stroke score. As an avid golfer for over 23 years & being brought up on respecting the etiquette of this game, the golfer's we were being pushed by and the rangers at this course had no business being so rude about our pace of play. The course itself was extremely nice and fairly challenging, however the full experience was less than pleasant and I would not consider playing this course again. read more
