I couldn't be happier with Shark Flooring and specifically Rudolpho, Rodrigo, and their crew. These guys genuinely know what they're doing, stand behind their work, and were a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end.
I initially contacted Shark Flooring because the dark hardwood around our kitchen island had become noticeably discolored over time. We have young kids who are constantly moving the counter stools, and years of wear had caused that area to become significantly lighter than the surrounding floor. It was becoming more obvious and was really starting to bother my wife and me.
Rudolpho handled everything from the beginning. He spoke with me by phone, scheduled a time to come out, and even put booties on before entering our home without being asked--something small, but immediately indicative of how respectful he was of our property. Within about 10 minutes of inspecting the floor, he explained exactly what he thought needed to be done and walked me through the process step by step.
He explained that matching the damaged area would essentially involve treating the floor like an artist treats a canvas--gradually adding pigment and layers until he could blend the lighter wood back into the surrounding floor. More importantly, he was realistic about the result. He told me upfront that a repair like this could never be guaranteed to match perfectly, but that he was confident he could get it to at least a 70% match.
About two weeks later, Rudolpho personally returned and spent roughly 3-4 hours working on the area. He patiently added pigment and layers, repeatedly stepped back to evaluate the color, asked for my opinion, and made further adjustments wherever necessary. In my opinion, he ultimately achieved about a 90% match, substantially exceeding the expectations he had set. I appreciated that he underpromised and overdelivered rather than telling me what I wanted to hear just to get the job.
Because we have hardwood throughout nearly 3,000 square feet of our downstairs, Rudolpho also recommended screening and recoating the entire floor. The idea was not only to restore the finish and make everything more uniform, but also to add a protective coating so spills and water would bead on the surface rather than readily absorbing into the wood. He gave me a competitive quote, and we scheduled the work about a month out.
On the day of the project, Rudolpho was there with the crew and project manager Rodrigo, personally going over the work and expectations with everyone. They carefully sealed off the pathways leading upstairs to minimize fumes and odor. The crew brought in the proper heavy equipment, abraded the entire floor, carefully worked around the quarter-round and baseboards throughout the house, hand-sanded areas where necessary, thoroughly vacuumed everything, touched up more than 20 individual areas, and then applied the oil-based finish.
The transformation was dramatic. Our floors went from looking dull and somewhat tired to having a beautiful, rich, uniform appearance with a great sheen and patina. They honestly looked revitalized.
Just as impressive was how Shark Flooring handled the small issues that appeared afterward. Once everything dried, we noticed a few boards where the finish had absorbed differently because those portions of the wood were particularly dry. I contacted Rudolpho, and he immediately arranged for Rodrigo to come back and address about five boards. A week later, we noticed three additional small areas, and once again Rodrigo happily returned and took care of them. There was no arguing, no excuses, and no attempt to tell us that what we were seeing was "good enough." They simply came back and made it right.
Now the floors look beautiful and uniform, and the protective finish is doing exactly what Rudolpho said it would. With young kids, water inevitably ends up on the floor--whether from a spill or dripping wet hands--and now I can literally see the water bead up on the surface instead of soaking into the wood. It wipes right up.
What impressed me most about Rudolpho, Rodrigo, and the entire Shark Flooring crew was their combination of knowledge, workmanship, communication, and willingness to stand behind the finished product. Everyone was helpful, positive, and professional, and they left our home clean and secured when the work was finished.
We are extremely happy with the result and genuinely glad we found them. It's not often that I finish a substantial home project feeling this positive about both the work and the people who performed it.
