I live with chronic cervical pain that ranges from mild to severe and, at its worst, radiates down through my hips and into my feet. I see Dr Shapero three times a month. I confirmed directly with Anthem Blue Cross -- twice -- that my PPO plan has no deductible and a $15 copay for in-network chiropractic visits. Dr. Shapero told me I had a $250 deductible. When I told him my plan had no deductible, he said I was wrong. He then presented me with a "Corrective Care Package" on practice letterhead -- a prepaid cash plan of $1,224 for 12 visits -- and told me to expect minimal insurance coverage (~$20/visit). After two visits I was charged $225 with no itemization. When I called to question it, the charge was dropped to $57 -- which is the "$57 New Patient Special" cash rate advertised on their website. Only after I called a second time citing my verified benefits did the office call Anthem, confirm my coverage, and correct the charge to $30 (2 × $15 copay). A different in-network chiropractor I visited the same week correctly charged me $15 with no deductible. I've had 8 different chiropractors over 30 years and 2 cities and can say with complete confidence Dr. Dan Shapero is one of the very best. He took on Dr. Richard Robertshaw's clients upon retirement, and Dr. Robertshaw, a master of healing arts, would only do that if he believed in Dr. Dan. Because I have chronic neck pain from an injury in 2000, I need chiropractic work once or twice a month. What I like best about Dr. Dan is that he does not over-adjust. I'm back with an update to my review - 2 years on, and I still see Dr Dan regularly. He's added more in office days, which makes it super easy to book. We're basically in a maintenance period, and I can definitely feel the difference in my body, especially my hips and neck, when I go long periods without seeing Dr Dan. I had a major surgery in Dec that meant I couldn't see Dr Dan, but once I returned, he fixed up a package of visits, included some goodies like the decompression table, and we're back in biz. I've been going to chiropractors off and on for YEARS due to major back pain issues - the surgery I had in Dec 2023 is ultimately what fixed the pain, but seeing Dr Dan made living with the pain bearable, and since the surgery Dr Dan's care has resulted in improvements in my body that I wouldn't have expected. Unethical business practices Before booking I called the office to check whether they are in-network with Anthem PPO, and Suzie confirmed that they are. I came in to a not so great start: they had booked 2 other people for my time slot. Dr Shapero spent a few minutes negotiating when my 'hard stop' was. I had to choose between canceling my later plans or getting a truncated appointment, and chose the former. We had a salesy appointment in which Dr Shapero said he'd tell me the results of my evaluation at a follow-up appointment (WTF?). tl;dr of the conversation that ensued at the end: "Gotcha! For the last 10 months Anthem has actually dropped us. You're responsible for all fees out of pocket! Now let's sign you up for a package." When I followed up with Suzie to point out that it's not cool to lie to patients, she wasn't even apologetic about it. read more

After checking Dr. Dan's excellent reviews, I decided to consult with him as I was going through severe pain on my right hip which stopped me from running. I am an avid runner who runs either half marathon or full marathon almost every weekend. I was able to walk with discomfort but being a marathon runner, this injury which was severely hampering my running journey to finish a marathon in all the 50 states of US. Before showing to Dr. Dan, I went through few acupuncture and cupping sessions, but it used to only help me with temporary relief. After the first consultation, Dr. Dan confirmed that my right and left hip has some imbalance and due to this my right hip is currently in locked state which is causing all the pain especially when I am running. He told me clearly that it will take 12 to 13 sessions to heal. As per our detailed discussion, it gave me confidence that I am at right place so decided to give it a shot. After few sessions, I was able to feel big difference and slowly started jogging with slight discomfort which was such a massive relief for me. I find Shapero Chiropractic very impressive. Dr. Dan is extremely knowledgeable no doubt, but what sets him apart from other places I have been to in the past is the individual attention given at each appointment. It is not one size fits all, he figures out which parts of my spine need the most help on a given day, and then the adjustment (and even the pre-adjustment) varies depending on what's needed. This is very effective and I do notice the difference every time. Also, they have a room called the Decompression Chamber which I rather enjoy. They fasten you to a machine which gently (but noticeably) stretches you out for about 15-20 minutes. There is also relaxing music and a TV screen with beaches and sea turtles which makes for a cool ambiance. I'm so happy to have found Dr. Shapero for my shoulder, lower back, and neck pain. He's super nice, patient, and explains everything in detail as he's treating you so that you feel really well-informed. I've tried a lot of chiropractors in the past but Dr. Shapero was the most attentive of them all. Most of the chiropractors I've gone to split their time between adjustments and electric stimulation. For my case specifically, this wasn't helpful because I would spend 15 minutes in electric stimulation and then just a minute or two getting adjusted and be on my way. I really like that Dr. Shapero spends more time to understand your needs. This practice offers a decompression table and chiropractic massage. The massage is one of the best I've ever had. The masseuse Rie is only there on Thursday's. Extremely targeted and my body felt amazing after. The decompression table didn't do much for me but it feels pretty good.
