I've asked massage therapists to concentrate on my upper back because I know that needs the most help, but they would say that it didn't feel tense at all. Hmm. Atina somehow knew where my body was tense, even when I wasn't aware. She is very good at what she does, intuitively knowing exactly what my body needed. I also love her little room (inside Awaken to Wellness) filled with crystals, beautiful art, colorful lights, and a little water fountain. On top of that, she is a really cool person that loves what she does! I highly recommend her :)

This is NOT a spa. I…read morewas recently referred to Stoneworks for a therapeutic medical massage on my shoulders and neck. When I arrived, I was taken aback to walk into an old office building with stained carpet and a vague, musty smell. The woman behind the desk had a small child with her and she didn't look up, much less say 'Hello' until I stood in front of her and said 'Excuse me'. I told her who I was, and she absently shuffled through some papers before thrusting a clip board of forms at me and then leaving with the child without another word. I was by myself in the 'waiting room' with no idea who was going to see me or what to do next. At 5 minutes past my appointment time, an ill-kept woman walked out in shorts and a tank top and asked if I needed to go to the bathroom. (I did, and was directed the the bathroom in the back which a full trash can, and was only marginally clean.) When I returned, she had my clipboard in hand, so I took her to be my masseusse, and she asked me how long I'd had my pain and then, after listening to a quick summary of my ills, she asked no questions and told me to get on the table. I did, and that was the last exchange we had. What proceeded was some merciless deep tissue work (my first, btw, so I was I'll-equipped to know what exactly I was in for)----50 minutes spent on the far end of intense discomfort and pain, with no remark from the practitioner except that "in this type of medical instance, massage is NOT your friend". After my neck, back and chest had been tenderized, she stood up abruptly, walked to the front of me and informed me that "our time was over" and she was leaving. I dressed, paid her and left without further conversational interaction. It was odd and off-putting. A day later, I am black and blue, more sore than I was when I went in and understanding nothing of this "hurts so good" thing that everyone says of this type of massage. I understand that I am there and paying only an insurance co-pay, so i expect a certain amount of bare-bones, take-it-or-leave-it-mess, but I expect a certain level of professionalism and aplomb. There is NO WAY that I would pay the regular ticket price of $120 for this experience.
