They do not have food per se, but they allow people to come in with food or order food from nearby places. It is a fun place to meet and sometimes have really good music. This week they are hosting. A fundraiser for Inland Humane Society. From 1 o'clock to 5 o'clock with proceeds going to the Humane Society and animals. I absolutely love it when people jump in and help out with a cause. Had a really great evening here over the summer. They had some wonderful offerings to tickle the palate of everyone in our party; wine, beer, port, mead, cider... The staff was top notch friendly & knowledgable. We were made to feel really welcome. The owner himself (and his cute dog) made sure we were comfortably seated on the charming patio with ambient lighting. It was perfect for having lively conversations but still close enough to hear the live music coming from inside. We couldn't have been happier guests. read more

It's always a trip to come back to the town you grew up in and actually be old enough to go out to the bars, finally. Even more of a trip is going out to the bars and seeing kids who were literally just kids, rugrats when you still lived in town, downing beers all legally-like. "Damn," you think, "I am old." It's especially crazy around Thanksgiving or Christmas when every random so-and-so is back home and they all converge on the bars so all night you're like "wait, is that who I think it is? Dang, they got fat/skinny/pregnant/hot/ugly/a sex change/etc" Fortunately for me, Willits has Shanachie Pub. Offset from the Purple Thistle restaurant, the winding stone pathway and verdant garden patio effortlessly evoke a rustic cabin feel. Inside, the warm room is all smooth wood, elegant art, and an old piano tucked in the corner--truly more of a coffeeshop feel than a bar. For any night life in Willits, Shanachies is the place. It might be small in size but huge in homeyness. There is a good selection on tap, wine and some hard cider. The bar cat is awesome. Watch out, he may sneak up on you for a cozy petting. While the restaurant out front is open you can sit outside and get your grub on. The space is small for music but either has great live music or decent background music for the slower hours. Sometimes the noise can be a little much for a small space but they are great at regulating this. Oh, and there is a nice covered area for all you smokers right out the front door. Overall it is a must stop even if you are just passing through Willits on the 101. Have fun, drink lots, and be safe. Cutest pub you can imagine. Just adorable. Bartender Page slings the beers with such a smile I don't even mind that is cash only. Wonderful large shaded outdoor seating and often great live music from the likes of Shakewell and the like. So glad to find this little treasure. read more

I rarely get a babysitter so my husband and I can go out, and the night we did we stopped in, because several people had told us it's an awesome bar with great brews. When we arrived the bartender and 3 customers were in the middle of watching a movie.... we tried to relax, continued to get rude looks from one of the customers, and we felt like we were interrupting their movie with basic level volume conversation. It was to cold to hang out outside, so we felt obligated to leave. It was the most boring bar experience of my life. If I wanted to watch movies I would have stayed home in the first place. read more

Discovered this place during our western road trip while staying in Wilits for the evening. Easy to miss from Main street as the entrance is a very narrow walkway that opens up to a small outdoor seating area. Fantastic selection of obscure craft beers and very friendly folks. Went on open mic Wednesday and struck up a conversation with a soon to be performer sitting next to us. Discovered he grew up only 40 miles from my hometown in Illinois, and we had a great jam band discussion for about 45 minutes. Bartender remembered my wife's name when I went for refills on our beers. Not a trendy yuppie bar, but a meeting place for music loving party folks. Thanks for making us feel so welcome!
