Haven't been to Shamrock in close to ten years, but it's good to see all the games are still there! I arrived early for a work outing so I ordered a beer and a burger. Shaun was attentive and took good care of me. The beer was served in an icy cool pint and the burger was killer! Perfectly seasoned and topped with caramelized onions, bacon & cheese. I annihilated it! As my friends arrived we moved to the game floor and played air hockey, skii ball, basketball, arcade games, pool, hula hooping and giant jenga. Some games were out of order, but nothing that dampened the experience. (I do think it's time to invest in a new giant jenga though. The pieces varied greatly in size after 10k falls.) Billiard rental was inexpensive and there was more than enough room on a Monday night to distance from the more serious players that use Shamrock as a place to practice and hone their skills. Came here with a group of 6 locals who often go to this bar. The outside is pretty sketchy since its hidden in a strip mall and located above a dollar tree. Once inside, there's probably about 20 pool tables, ping pong, beer pong, and a few arcade games. We started out the night with pool and then later switched to ping pong. You do have to pay to play the games, but it's only around 5 dollars an hour and you get the ball/equipment behind the bar. The part that really matters: the drinks. The drinks here and cheap and the service is fast. That being said, this is definitely an "and" bar. Rum and coke, vodka and Sprite. Don't come here expecting any sort of cocktail. Overall, Shamrock is a small bar that's a good place to play some games with friends. If you like cheap drinks and pool, this place is definitely worth checking out. read more

This is truly a pub. You know that I don't frequent pubs, or bars, or generally any place that has a lot of smoking, and this place had me smelling like an astray! The highlights of my experience: 1. No identification, no entry - no exceptions. 2. Dress code is enforced to deter people that only choose to dress street comfortable. 3. Many pool tables to choose from. 4. Did I mention that the place is smoky? 5. Of course there are video games inside. 6. They actually have ping pong inside cages...kind of a smart design. 7. Darts are available. 8. Shuffle board is available. 9. Giant connect four is available. 10. Decent bar foods. 11. Karaoke is available. 12. $2 per hour pool tables on Monday. Variety gets them the extra half star rounded to 4. I may consider coming back to see if they chilled out on the smoking situation in the future. Shamrock is a very...unique place lol. They have ALOT going on in there! I feel like no matter what day nor time of day I visit, there is little-to-no parking in the GIANT strip mall lot it's attached to lol. I wouldn't want to park too far from the entrance if I were alone just because there's lots of activity in the lot and area. When you arrive, prepare to walk up approx. 3 flights of stairs. Also, depending on the day and time and I guess the way the wind blows, you may or may not be patted down. Of course there's a full bar and kitchen with bar food (burgers, wings, fries), but also, I've been very surprised to see that they have foods like steak and potatoes lol. The drinks are very reasonable, and happy hour will have you nice and lit for the low low! $3 well drinks and $2 shots...can't beat it! So, you can hang out and drink or you can play their SUPER wide array of arcade games, pool tables, or ping pong tables. Also, there's a large section for beer pong and flip cup (which is my favorite and most fun section). It really is a cool spot to hang out. Casual and chill, but I can get SUPER packed on weekend nights. But I'm glad they're going well because young people seem to really enjoy it. read more

I've been back here a few times recently and need to do some updating to some general information. The city-wide smoking ban has been in effect for a while now and the air in here is SO clean which makes it a lot easier to hang out longer, play more games and spend more money. In addition to the great selection of games throughout the facility, the bar food is good, the drink prices are great, they have specials though out the week, Karaoke on Sundays, and the largest ladies room I have ever seen anywhere. One could have a party in the ladies room with its HUGE lounge area before the actual room of potties, and I just might... The other day my friend ordered a hamburger, which comes with fries for $6!! It was a decent burger, too! For an extra dollar she got it dressed (.50) and topped with sauteed mushrooms (.50). It was a generous serving which allowed me to 'help' her with the fries, but what a great deal! Shamrock seems better in theory than in reality. Inside the old Rock and Bowl, Shamrock is jammed with all varieties of games. Darts, pool, ping pong and even a punching strength machine fill the floor. The bar has a relatively large selection of drafts which are served in frozen pint glasses. Kudos for having Smithwick's on tap. There were plenty of bartenders working so I didn't have to wait long to get a drink. They were attentive and friendly. Now for the less than great (at least in my opinion): The level of smoke in this bar got to an overwhelming eye burning, clothes stinking stage as the night progressed. It was difficult to breathe. There is a DJ on Saturday night. It is very loud. If you want to carry on a conversation, even on the opposite side of the bar, good luck. On the night I was there, there was a local rapper in the house. He gave an impromptu performance asking (if you're under 18 stop reading now) for "all the ladies with shaved pussies to say yeah". While I appreciate his attempt at identifying those ladies who keep it clean, it was a little much. Normally I would have given this experience a two star rating, but I was with a bunch of awesome people and that warrants an extra star. read more

If you want to play pool there is no better place than Shamrock. They have over 20 pool tables. And if pool isn't your thing they also have ping pong tables, an air hockey table, darts, this mini bowling game, and some video games. What else can you do at Shamrock? Karaoke night on Sundays! A photo booth to capture those great drunk pictures. Beer pong tables. And they also have hula hoops there in case you're in the mood to workout your torso :) Game prices are all inexpensive. Not really sure on prices (I'm bad with prices. I just pay whatever it is without asking or looking at receipts). I think pool tables rent out for $6/hr. Darts and ping pong tables are comparably priced. The food is also pretty good. I eat the chicken tenders almost every time I go and they always hit the spot. The bar food offers a nice variety of food that includes red beans and rice, gumbo, steak, philly cheesesteak sandwich, burgers, and more. The only issue I would have at Shamrock is that on crowded nights it could be bad for people that don't like cigarette smoke since they do still allow smoking here. Luckily I don't come here on busy nights so I've never had to deal with smoke much. All in all, Shamrock is a really fun place to hang out with friends whether to play games or just drink at the bar. I have been going to Shamrock ever since I was able to get in. It is located in a shopping plaza, so there is plenty of parking. Saturday nights are probably the busiest nights, since sometimes you have to circle the parking lot to get a spot to park. Shamrock isn't the perfect bar and you always have to climb a set of stairs to get to, but I love this place! If my friends and I go hang out at a new spot and get bored, then we almost always end up at Shamrock. It's a bit rundown over the years, but the prices are cheap and service is always great whenever I go. There are always bouncers at the entrance to check IDs and to check for weapons to make sure everyone is safe. Sometimes they have live bands and there is a cover fee to get in, but it's never too much. One of my favorite things about this bar is the large Gatorade water dispenser at the entrance. It's almost always filled, so you can make sure your friends and you are properly hydrated! Other bars have smaller containers that are mostly just ice and tend to run out of water after like 5-10 cups. The bar area is huge and there are plenty of bartenders to serve drinks. It's almost always busy throughout the night, but the wait is never terribly long. Shamrock has so many things to do, like giant Jenga, pool tables, darts, shuffle board, ping pong, air hockey, basketball machines, and punching bag machines to name a few. My friends are almost always playing beer pong and other fun drinking games in one of the cage rooms. That's one way to keep the whole group having fun and happy! Their bar food is surprisingly pretty good. I almost always order their Breaded Wings or Buffalo Tenders when I come! I normally don't order wings, but these are one of my favorites in the city. Their wings are addicting, nobody can resist eating them when they're brought out. Some friends told me that their 12 oz ribeye is good and affordable, which sounds like I have to give it a try next time I go! All in all, this is probably my favorite bar in the city! On the north east corner of Tulane and Carrolton, park in the parking lot in front and go up the stairs to the entrance. **Please note, that I am deducting 1 star for the handicapped entrance not being readily apparent** There is not usually a cover charge unless something is going on. Speaking of things going on, they will have karaoke, bands, midget wrestling and pool tournaments on occasion, but they will usually announce events on their Facebook page. Once you have gotten through the door, straight ahead is the game area. To the right is the karaoke area and restrooms. To the left is the bar, then the enclosed outdoor smoking area. There are drink specials, jello shots, and all the hard alcohol you could ever want. There are many pool tables, ping pong tables, dart boards, basketball game, skee ball, mini bowling and so much more. Bring your friends, have some beverages and play some games. My only concern is when leaving, I would be afraid of some drunk not being able to walk down the stairs to leave and falling. Me and a couple of friends came here Christmas night. It seemed like they were short staffed hat night because the bar was really crowded and you had to wait a While to get waited on. When I first got there it wasn't too crowded but as the night went on more and more people started to show up. The bar situation never got better though, so the wait just got longer. When I finally ordered my food it took them a while to get it to me. We had to stop a worker walking by to let her know we hadn't gotten our order yet. We eventually got it though. To say the least this place is interesting. I had a friend bring me here who loves to come and play the games. There is plenty of parking and be warned this place gets very loud. Some of the games were free however you will need to get some of the items from the bar and it just goes onto your tab. We started with food and a beer at the bar and my burger was pretty lackluster and very well done but the fries were decent. Great news! The dress code sign is GONE! Hooray! So happy that they removed that sign, thus making Shamrock the five star place that it's meant to be. My only minor regret is that it's not called The Barsports Emporium, but even still this joint has got to be one of the greatest places on earth. To wit: Eight dartboards. Five enclosed ping pong tables. More televisions than it's possible to count with an attention span like mine. Twenty-three pool tables. Two massive bars. What more could you possibly ask for? Cheap drinks? Done. Ginormous anteroom lounge area with couches and TVs in the (very clean!) girls restroom? Yep. They have that, too. (Jealous, boys? After reading Teneha's review I decided to check it out. That and it is really close. This is one big huge sports bar. They got lots of pool tables, dart boards, table tennis and lots of other games. They even have a karaoke night out here. The staff here is pretty cool. I will admit they do kinda give you the airport security treatment at the door. The bartenders were pretty chill though. I noticed this place serves food though I have yet to try it. The drink prices were medium, not cheap but not expensive either. Great for groups, I mean this place is effin huge! My only gripe was the cigarette smoke. It gets rather monotonous if you linger for too long (which is why I took a star off of this review). Shamrock is one of my favorite places to people watch and play games, so I decided to have my Nerdy 30 Birthday Party there. The staff was beyond helpful in allowing me to set it up there. Upon first contact, it was a quick turnaround and answered every question right off and made me feel real comfortable with my decision. The Deposit was only $50 (refunded once your party starts). They allowed for a 2 hour open bar for about $15 per person, as well as receiving free games of pool, darts, and ping pong. You really can't go wrong with that. I was able to reserve a pretty large section, where I was allowed to decorate everything just the way I wanted and bring in my own food, which I was excited about most of all. Everyone had a great time!!! The only issue was the music, wasn't too exciting. They went from things like Ice Ice Baby to Adele "Someone like you", which could be a Debbie downer vibe right there. Other than that the venue is perfect for easy going party and a great staff that actually works with you. If planning any small party, I advise to reserve at least a month in advance to ensure you get the larger area closer to the Dj booth, with the longer tables. One last thing.... I'm hardcore about my parking.... In lot parking is a big deal to me, which they do have! read more

I had the chance to check this place out for a friend's birthday party and of course, I enjoyed it with the eye of a Yelper ;-) First thing that struck as wow was what it looks like in there with no more blowing lanes. I sort of had the notion that blowing alleys were like a non removable thing, kinda like elevators and bank safes. Guess not. It still resembled the old Rock and Bowl though, the cluttered home feeling and look, which I kinda dig. Second thing I noticed was HOW LOUD the music is. I read Jen L.'s review about this place before hand , and same thing happened to us all, we lost our voices by the end of the night, and had the wonderful ringing in the ears. Aside from that , I had a great time. We played darts, danced a little to a Chip Forstall band and ate the decent bar food that they sell. Chicken strips, fried and cheese stixs. All good stuff when your buzzing super hard :-) Definitely a lot of people watching to be had here. The different types of people in there was cool too. Shamrock never lets me down when I'm looking for random fun! My friends and I go here when we want to have drinks and play the "big kid" games. There's something for everyone: pool tables, air hockey, jenga, table tennis, beer pong rooms, and that's just a portion! Some nights you can catch a live band, and other nights you can be the band with some karaoke! Shamrock attracts the younger 20s crowd; which is to be expected with several colleges and universities near by. I planned a bar crawl through mid city with a group from out of town. Just on "spec", I added Shamrock to the crawl. We planned on arriving at 2 PM and when I sent them a note letting them know, the y informed me that they do not open until 3 PM, but would open early for us. First Star! As we walked form our previous stop and turned the corner to where google maps said this spot would be we stopped dead in out tracks. We were facing a strip of businesses: clothing store, electronics store, etc. We thought maybe it's around back but one of us noticed the giant "Shamrock" sign above the businesses. so we walked over and found glass double doors infant of the clothing store and realized it was a door to a stairwell which leads to the second floor, Ah Ha! it's upstairs. Second Star! I was at the back of the pack while going up the stairs and when the peeps in front got to the top, the oohs, ahas and choruses of "Holy Shit" made me pause. What have I gotten us into. When I reached the top I did the same! This place was the size of all the stores below just a large cavernous space with pool tables, dance floor, foosball, darts, giant games, basketball, beerpong, pingpong, etc., etc., etc.! It was gigantic! Star 3! On the left there was a huge bar with an adorable bartender in a sports uniform of some kind. She opened the bar early for us and was informative and put up with all of our crazy questions about the oversized sports bar. Star 4! Our grouped participated in a few video games and sports games. We were blown away by this place and I think the fact that we had it all to ourselves probably made it even more fun. Oh, did I mention an outdoor patio? Star 5! We had a blast here!! read more

Mixed feelings about the place.....Ah, the memories! I grew up in Mid-City as a child and tell ya it is no Mid City Bowling Lanes or the Rock n Bowl, lol "ANYMORE".... Actually quite surprised to see the transformation. This place is awesome for the large sporty group parties: from ping pong tables (caged!), dart boards, pool table, skeet ball and more......If you're looking for an Adult Game Room - Definitely the place to be!!! I only gave it 3 Stars for now, I will have to experience and see more of the place - would like to see what kind of entertainment they have to offer. A must try the Roast Beef Gravy Cheesy Fries!!!
