The first floor is - about - half vintage stuff and half modern collectibles & nick knacks. Of course, they have the ever-present lame area featuring Christmas items year round...even in July. This one is right in front. I don't know why I always seem to find these areas in antique/vintage shops but it seems ubiquitous - I can't seem to escape it! I HAVE seen shops with very cool, legitimately antique Christmas items. But sadly, that's not the case here. The basement is mostly real legitimate antiques. There were far more interesting pieces down there. But nothing really knocked my socks off. On the other hand, on the positive side, nothing was very expensive either. You won't break the bank shopping here. I don't know why I have a fondness for those 22" antique framed photos in oval frames with bubble glass but I find them fascinating. I saw several cool ones downstairs and they were only in the 50 buck range. I usually see price tags of 100 dollars (and up) for these things, depending on the photo. On the day of my visit, the customer service was pretty pathetic and non-existent. I counted 5 people behind the counter and one old timer (customer?) leaning on the counter, talking everyone's ear off. No one could be bothered to greet me or ask if they could help me to find anything. I even interrupted them to ask a question, and I still had to wait & they all acted like I was bothering them. Yet, my pocket was full of cash. Oh, well. I left empty handed and underwhelmed. I might have...might have...bumped them to 4 stars if the customer service was awesome. I'm not a hater but I have to call it the way I see it in my humble opinion. I'm calling it as - not great and not bad - just okay. -Maxx

North Branch just had a new overpass installed and the construction is mostly done. Very accessible if you are traveling in either North or South direction. - Some good deals to be had and for the most part there should be something for everyone albeit a slim selection of stores. - It's never so busy that you can't shop here w/o going crazy. Sure there are occasional busses coming from Canada pouring down for outlet shopping, but NOTHING like the Albertville Outlet Mall. I've never seen it unbearable here, most likely due to the size of the town and it being miles from the Twin Cities. Cons - No real place to eat at the mall itself. There are fast food places on either side of the interstate, but nothing once you've parked @ the mall. - Not the best selection of stores. Honestly, I really only go to the Gap outlet, occasionally the Nike store, and maybe a kitchen place. It's pretty barren. If you're used to the Albertville Outlet Mall, you will be disappointed.

It was a Saturday morning so I made a large tumbler full of iced coffee before I hit the road. About an hour into the drive my bladder decided to go ding ding ding. I knew Milaca Unclaimed Freight was just ahead so I thought I'd stop in to use the restroom. Biggest mistake of the day! After using the restroom I decided to walk up and down the aisles. And boy did they have deals. I happened to be in the holiday home decor section and my hands were full. There was a lady standing next to me and I mentioned to her that I should have grabbed a cart. She responded with "you always grab a cart". So I went and grabbed a cart and put my selections in the basket. I kept running into her in the other aisles. And every time I saw her she was interested in what I added to the basket. She was fun, nice lady. I got stuff for the house. I got stuff for work. And I guess I started my Christmas shopping today too. The grand total was just under $200. That was an expensive rest stop. Dang coffee bladder!

North Bound Antiques is one of the best antique stores between Elk River and Grand Rapids…read more I've been to North Bound Antiques many times. I think my wife and I have been to nearly EVERY antique store (close to & adjacent to Highway 169) between Elk River and Grand Rapids. Let me tell you, there are some horrible stinkers that call themselves antique stores. But North Bound is easily one of the best...if not THE best of them all. North Bound is technically a "mall" with many vendors. But they're way above average with some fantastic vendors. They could hold their own with any antique mall in Minneapolis and St. Paul. And the building is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. The best vendors seem to be in the front of the store. These are the ones that have the biggest, rarest, and most expensive items. Be prepared to fork out some dough if you want to buy something big and rare. They have brand-new hand-made crafts of different kinds peppered throughout the store too. Some of the larger lawn & garden type items are displayed outside. -Daddy Maxx Retro

Now that my wife and I are ready to buy, we actually stopped-in. We're small-time buyers, not restaurant owners. We only want a T49 True 2-door freezer to match our T49 True 2-door refrigerator. We're also looking for a 6-burner Vulcan or Wolf commercial gas range. So...we told them right off the bat that we're just small time residential buyers. But they treated us like Royalty. In particular, Kent was AWESOME and incredibly KNOWLEDGEABLE. He spent a lot of time helping us. He also educated us about some potential issues with residential installations. We were completely oblivious until we talked to Kent! There's a giant outside yard in back with hundreds of stainless steel sinks, tables, racks, etc. Pretty cool.
