This was my first time visiting (upon recommendation from a coworker). I booked the spa pedicure appointment online and showed up about 10 minutes prior to my appointment. Girl at reception was very friendly and offered tea coffee water. Still was waiting 20 minutes after appointment time, when checked on this. The lady had never been told i was there. When got up to pedicure area she then told me because of their mixup i could not get the spa pedicure but only a basic. I feel even the basic at 35, was shortened and rushed. I followed my long time stylist, Stephen Falvo, from Philadelphia to Shakti. I currently live in Connecticut and make an almost three hour trip for a cut and color. I also now bring my son, a teenager, for his cut here as well. Stephen and an incredible stylist and colorist. He listens to what you want to accomplish, makes recommendations based on his 20+ years of experience, and delivers an amazing cut and the perfect color. The salon itself is warm and welcoming, with lots of windows and natural light. The staff are professional and friendly, and they've taken the upmost care to meet and exceed safety guidelines during this pandemic. I feel incredibly safe and confident that every effort has been made to minimize the risk of COVID when I visit. The salon has a large parking lot, so parking is easy, and free. Unfortunately, I've had so many bad hair cuts and colors at other places in the past, that I was a little gun-shy at trying another salon. I have been coming to Shakti ever since I moved to the area a few years ago. Calynn did a great job at giving me the exact cut I was looking for, even the first time around. I was never much of a "hair colorer", but Amy makes changing my hair color fun. She knows exactly what kind of "hair mood" I feel like going for on that day. Both of these girls are true artists, and most importantly, they LISTEN and give me their advice on cut or color. Marilyn is also always a pleasure to see at reception. I only giving it a 1 because I can't give 0. I went in for some highlights on my greys and enhance my brown I already had to one matching color. First of all I called the day before to ask for a seasoned stylist spent an great deal of time on the phone picking who would do it. Then I brought pictures, brown hair , can't be too hard I figured . Well my hair turned jet black. I was very upset and instead of just fixing it I was gaslighted and yelled at for an hour that it was brown and exactly what I asked for. The manager even threatened to kick me out at one point while I cried. Asking me if I do this everywhere I go. Victim shaming, manipulative, very rude. She eventually offered to fix it and did lighten with highlights to a very dark brown instead of shoe polish black. I was there from 10 am to 3 pm. And the next day I had a cut scheduled of course I didn't go and this manager left a message that I was being charged 65$ for not cancelling. Yeah more like you owe me money! read more

Shakti was suggested by my mother in law, who has been going there for years to get her hair done. Since I tried it, it's now my regular place, too. Margie colors my hair every five weeks, and is a GENIUS. Jesse does my blow dry/cut/styles and she is fantastic, too. All of the staff there are very nice (except the one receptionist... she's not mean, just impersonable), and the prices are very good for what you are getting. It's expensive for the area, but a bargain compared to city costs (I lived in Boston for years and this is WAY less expensive). Lastly, I love the atmosphere. The decor is relaxing, the chairs are comfy, everything is so bright because of the natural light in there. I would suggest Shakti to anyone, especially if you need to get your hair dyed. I was on vacation when I was arm-twisted by my mom and by my sister to get a haircut Okay, it has been about six months since I last had one, so I really needed one. My sister and her family are clients here and she told me that I can takeover her appointment with Kelly. Kelly, who has never dealt with Asian hair until meeting my sister and her family, was awesome! After showing what I would like my hairstyle to be, she began to tell me how she would cut and style my hair. She asked questions (e.g., "Your bangs curl in the front: is that natural?", "Have you had short hair before?") to make sure once she starts cutting, I won't change my mind. They gave me exactly what I asked for, and I've been getting compliments galore from everyone on my highlights and my bangs. I just moved to the area and went here for the first time. I didn't love my haircut... it was too short, but what I wasn't happy about was it clearly wasn't even. I never complain about haircuts, but It was not done well. I went home and messed around with it and decided to call the salon to go back in to get it fixed. They apologized, but couldn't take me in for another 2 days. That is extremely poor customer service. They should have been able to take a few minutes to fix what was done wrong. Visited Shakti for the first time and was overall happy with my color. The only things I didn't really like is that the blow dry is not included in the service like most other places, and you have multiple people working on your hair. After my color was applied, I didn't see the stylist again. She didn't even come to check back with me while I was getting my blow dry to see if I was happy with the color or even to see how it turned out. Not even sure if she was still there or went home for the day. Just felt like an assembly line of service. I don't have a problem if someone else washes or dries my hair if they are busy, but was just put off by the fact that I didn't see her again. There was no one else in the salon at the time so it wasn't like it was busy. Also, the finish styling was not stellar for the extra charge. I couldn't done the same quality myself. I have taken a preteen to Shakti in the past and had a good experience with consultation and end result. Recently I have treated myself to some Shakti and was very impressed with the experience! I spent an hour with Martha and left a new woman. Everything was wonderful about the salon. The shampoos smelt good, the atmosphere was pleasant, and most importantly the end result was all smiles. I felt Martha cut my hair precisely how the picture looked that I showed her. When I had something to say about the style, she was very responsive. End result: PERFECTion. Thanks Martha! Pre-Covid, I routinely went to Shakti in Kingston for pedicures after receiving a gift card. Nina was fantastic and I never had a complaint in the few years I went. Fast forward and my opinion has COMPLETELY CHANGED. I purchased a gift card as a gift for my mother in law specifically for the purpose of getting manicure and pedicure services. (We both have hairdressers we are happy with elsewhere). I understand they were required to close due to Covid however after reopening, I called to book our appointments and was told they were not back to doing anything other than hair yet and to be patient. I was patient and waited and waited. I called today because use the holidays are upon us and not only are they not going to bring these services back, they will not refund the gift card that I spent my hard earned money on. The girl on the phone could not have cared less and her response was you can use it on other services or products! I had already told her that we don't use their products and have hairdressers we are loyal to. NO LISTENING AND CERTAINLY NO COMPASSION FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. I will never refer anyone there again. Worst salon experience of my life! They fried my hair, they cut off 14 inches, then still made me pay!! My mom recently went there with a gift certificate. She was harassed by the manager about how he schedule was set up, the scheduler said nothing, my mom didn't receive all of her services, they didn't cut her hair right, she was not refunded for the services she didn't receive, and she ended up leaving in tears. Did I mention the manager harassed her, didn't believe a word she said, ignored her when she tried to speak, and was just generally rude an disrespectful. How can they still be in business??? I have been mostly happy with the services at Shakti but absolutely hate going there because of the snarky, ill-informed receptionists. I am not sure why this is the case, but it seems that they look for someone rude to man the desk. I once had a helpful, pleasant receptionist when I went there but they must have decided that wasn't the direction they wanted to go in because the next time I went she was gone and replaced by a new very unpleasant and dull witted one, possibly the most disagreeable one yet. i used to go to Shakti for 10+ growing up. unfortunately after a change in owners, the salon has gone downhill. i made an appointment online to get a formal hairstyle for my senior prom, and when i came to the salon i was also booked for makeup that i did not select or want. however, i paid after my hair was styled, thinking i was only paying for my hair, only to find out i had to wait another 30 minutes to get make up done that i did not want, but was already charged for. the girl was young, however could not do makeup at all. i looked like a clown and rushed home to do my own makeup which was the plan prior to going to the salon, however i was then set back an extra hour and was running really late. after this experience i should've learned and never went back, but i did giving them the benefit of the doubt. WHAT A MISTAKE i booked an appointment to get my eyebrows waxed, and ending up waiting 30 minutes for someone that i didn't even know or book my appointment with. i told her to clean up the bottoms of my brows; i have pretty full, thick brows i just have some scarce hairs underneath. the lady took off most of the tail, making them really thin and short. ITS NOT THE 90S ANYMORE!!! i am young and like full brows! needless to say, i am no longer going to show my face in this salon ever again, the staff has become very clueless, unprofessional, and inexperienced. read more

I drive over an hour from Danville Pa to come to Shakti!!! Margie, my colorist is the best!!! My hair is always exactly the way I want it and always healthy even with my foiled very blonde hair. The products used by Shakti are healthier for your hair than the chemicals that other salons use that dry out and kill your hair!!! Been there done that.. Will always go to Shakti!!!! Hair is healthy is growing better than it ever did when I went to my local salons. I also do not need my hair done as often. 8 weeks is so much better for ur hair and your wallet than going ever 4-5!!! Nothing better than Aveda products!!!! read more

Let me start with Margie is incredible and there are no words how incredible Calynn is, they are beyond professional and really make the time there pure joy!! It is horrible that the woman Marilyn has to be the one who greets you and has to end the lovely feeling you get while you are with the others there, once you are finished and you have to pay with Marilyn and all of that joyous feeling goes right out the door just like I am going to, because of the experience with her I just can not bring myself to go there any longer...there is no reason in the world to have someone treat you the way she does for no reason at all!!, if she can't handle putting on a happy face to make you at least feel like you are welcome in the shop then she should not be part of such an amazing team..it does sadden me to have to stop going there because of someone like her read more

After receiving a great deal of care concerning my allergy to hair dye (which I appreciate), the color came out way too light to cover my greys. Before I left we discussed potential concerns about the color being too light and when I hot home the verdict was clear: the color was not right--it was red (I wanted brown) and it didn't cover greys. My stylist indicated before I left that she would call to follow up the next day to see how things were going, but she did not call. Ever. Two days later (after not receiving the call she promised), I called and left a message saying that the color did not accomplish the main goal (coverage), I asked for the stylist to call me back. She did not. I am extremely disappointed. Shakti came highly recommended to me and I am shocked that no one bothered to return my call to resolve the concern. I thought this was a very highly regarded salon. I waited until the end of the week to post this review in hopes that she would call me back and resolve the concern as she had indicated. I didn't even get my hair done and had a bad experience. The receptionist every time I called was always very rude. Regardless, I looked past that and continued to make the appointment. I had first called and asked about pricing for a cut and partial highlight and after getting the pricing proceeded to say that I would like to make the appointment. She asked if I wanted a straighten and I agreed as I like to see the color when I leave. Made the appointment a week out and NEEDED to have my hair done no later than the day of my appointment because I had a get together I was going to the day after. I arrived for my appointment to have the receptionist be rude to me in person. The stylist called me back and only had me down for a cut and straighten. Because of the time crunch they wanted to reschedule me which wasn't ideal due to that being the only time I had to get my hair done. Plus, if they screwed up the appointment, I can't imagine would they would've done to my hair. I will be sure to let everyone know the experience I had with this salon and the unprofessional staff they have working there. I was a regular at this salon for a few years. The reason I left is the constant inconsistency with the result of my color and highlights. Sometimes I would walk out looking great and other times it would be poorly done. I think the colorists are over booked. On many occasions color & bleach were left on for 5-10 minutes after timer goes off which caused severe breakage to my hair. Also beware, not all colorists did a great job. When Marge colored my hair it looked good 75% of the time. It seemed when she was over booked and that is when it came out poor 25% of my visits. When Amy colored it (several times) I always left with all brass stripes, copper roots, white highlights and terrible broken ends. Ann always did a good job with brows. Calynn did nice cuts. Also, the reason I went to different colorists is because it was very difficult to get an evening appointment w Marge.I work hard and it is too expensive and time consuming to leave with hair I was not happy with and that is damaged. read more
