    Veggie with side of bacon

Been here many times but not since I've been a Yelper! About time, huh? It's a nice intimate " hole in the wall" that fits about 50 people. Kinda like an old fashioned diner you see on old movies. The burgers here are fantastic and a HUGE bang for the buck! Fresh hand patty and a great grill taste. Hmmmm, man, now I want one. But we're here for breakfast. Getting a veggie omelette , 2 eggs, onion, tomato, and cheese$4.30(wife) with side of bacon$$1.30 and I'm getting the Western Omelette 3 eggs, onion.tomato, ham, bacon , sausage and cheese $6.15. Both come with grits or gravy , toast or biscuit. Hash browns + .25 . As busy as it was, only took 15 minutes for our food. This is definitely a local favorite for breakfast lunch or dinner.

    Double cheese burger

The perfect little "greasy spoon" as I like to call it. They had an amazing peanut butter chocolate shake with a dream-worthy double cheese burger. The burger was huge and cheesy and delicious. The prices were super cheap and I was pretty surprised. The servers were nice, the wait wasn't very long at all. They have the old wooden bench style seating. As for covid procedures, none of the employees were wearing masks, the benches were pushed apart, but I don't believe the tables were 6 feet apart. That would be the only thing I would change and it's something for you Yelpers to be aware of.

a burger and fries on a tray

Good cheeseburgers, hamburgers, chili with the burgers (under the patty), sweet tea, and freshly-made lemonade. My 10-year-old daughter loved her burger and lemonade and said it was amazing. You can tell the burgers are made fresh and not overcomplicated. Probably just a bit of salt and pepper and made by hand. Crinkle french fries OK; might be frozen, nothings special. But burgers are good and make this place worth a stop. Be mindful that staff were not wearing masks amid COVID-19, though a plexiglass was up at the counter where you pay. We went to the Main Street Park in downtown Rutherfordton to enjoy an outdoor meal on a beautiful day.

I've eaten at numerous small town diners over my 45 years and this place is just average. Hamburgers are not cooked to order (looked similar to bubba burgers) and the buns were not grilled giving them that buttery crispy edges (which is a common practice at most hole in the wall places). Sodas are coke products and you only get one refill ($1.90) and you are charged for water too ($.30). The fries are the crinkle style and there was nothing special about them (you can buy these at Walmart in the frozen section). We ordered a shake because you are obligated to do this when you eat at a shake shop! Shakes are $3.10 and are smaller than the soda cups. See pic. My son got the chocolate shake and liked it, I tasted it and did not like the flavor at all... They were busy and full of people, and their prices are comparable to Burger King. Not sure why they are so chintzy.

The waitress has a hard time finding our table she walked around at two different times look for our number and when she found our table she I'm sorry those numbers are hard to find. I think the numbers should be taller so the wait staff can see them. Anyway the food was good and tasty. But the falafel bowl is kinda dry and the tzatziki sauce tastes like sour cream. It come out of plastic container. I added Greek dressing to my falafel bowl. It was better. ( please work on the falafel bowl no one likes a dry bowl) My friends had gotten the Hot Mother Clucker is was so delicious . The nitty gritty bowl my friend says it was good but there were burnt flakes in it she wasn't sure what that was. Pearl Sugar Waffles were good by way to sweet. The "Big fatty "breakfast burrito was very small and thin for $12.00 not worth the price but it was delicious. I know this is a small town and heard this was a great place to eat. So we decide to try it out. Needs a little tweaking between the servers. Free water cups are 4oz , they should actually have clear plastic water cups that are a little larger. It would've also been nice to have a pitcher of water or something over by the tea. So you could fill up your own glass. When the Resturant is busy you had to wait to ask for a refill by then your food is cold. This place could be good if tweaked. If you're not sure about my review check it out yourselves. Good luck.

I had the trout fillet (I had mine grilled instead of blackened and it was moist and flavorful. It came with two sides. I chose broccolini (was a bit under cooked to me) and tasty sweet potato waffle fries (generous portion) which came with an unusual but good dip. Hubby had the soup of the day and the chicken salad. It was delicious as always. It's offered with pita wedges or sliced cucumber, or 1/2 and 1/2. We like the 1/2 and 1/2 option. It was quiet and we had an enjoyable meal. I'm sure we will be returning often. Our server was friendly, helpful, and gave about the right amount of attention and service.

We'll and its not cheap, when you pay $24 for shrimp and grits you dont expect to have to season it at the table and mash the chalky lumps out with your fork. Maybe I'm just not a southern gal, but pulling the heads off my shrimp and getting one too many little tentacles thingies stuck in my teeth sort of took the shine off. The fried green tomatoes look pretty, the batter tastes of absolutely nothing; all the flavors in the sauce. We had a nice time though and I'll always give local businesses a go over the faceless big box. Maybe someone will read this and give the chef back his salt?

This year they were forced to move out of Chimney Rock Village because the half of the town was wiped out by Hurricane Helene. I was very excited to come support them through this tragedy because their food is simply amazing! I ordered the prime rib and it was fantastic. We had a large party and ever stated how good their meals were. If you like upscale dining, this is your place in Lake Lure. Don't let the outside of this restaurant fool you. Their new location is nice. They revamped the space and the outside patio is adorable. The inside was pleasant and comfortable. Our waiter was multitasking as a waiter, food runner and bartender. So he was attentive as best he could. He did take the time to talk over menu items and even create a custom cocktail for my friend. He was awesome! There was some confusion about our reservation and our table was given to another party. It was unfortunate and did sour my experience. With that said I will always support this place as it is an amazing restaurant that I want to stay in business!

My husband and I came here for an anniversary dinner and were blown away by everything we ordered, especially the Korean Short Ribs, Fish and Chips, and Mango glazed Wings. The Calamari and Fried Green Tomatoes were also good, and though they were out of the beer I ordered, our excellent and personable server, Katie, suggested a similar one that may have been even more what I was craving! We hope to be back next time we're in the area, and will send anyone else their way. (Just a note: the restaurant is actually named "The Highlands Reserve Kitchen and Bar," not "Preserve.")
