I want to share my frustrating experience with Columbia Oral and Facial Surgery Center. While the…read moredoctors are good, my experience with the office has been disappointing. I'm okay with paying in advance and understand that initial estimates may be off, but I'm now owed over $1,700--a sum I've been waiting on for months. I can appreciate that estimates might not always be accurate, but this delay has gone on for too long. Initially, the office informed me that they were waiting for my insurance claim to process. After several months without updates, I reached out to my insurance company, only to find out they approved and issued payment back in July, just a few days after my son's surgery. My insurance confirmed my out-of-pocket responsibility and provided an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) to support this. After my insurance company intervened and conducted an investigation, they acknowledged our overpayment, but getting the refund back has turned into a frustrating, never-ending battle. Despite acknowledging the amount owed, the office continues to delay my refund, offering little clarity on the situation. When I contacted the front desk, I learned that checks are handled by their Human Resources department, which only adds to the confusion. My wife and I have been patiently waiting and have called several times just to find out the status of our refund, but the receptionist often doesn't answer when she recognizes our number. We even visited the office in person, only to be told to wait another 2-3 weeks for HR to process the refund. Now, after patiently waiting another 3 weeks, we are still left in the dark. Yesterday, I called the office again and was met with surprise at my inquiry. The front desk claimed I should receive my check this week but couldn't provide any information about when the check was issued, sent, or anything related to my refund. When I asked for the name of the HR contact responsible for processing the refund, I received a name but no clear answers. I requested a callback with an update, and the receptionist assured me I would hear back. Yet here I am, still waiting. I tried calling again for an update, but no one is answering or returning my voicemail messages. This has been a frustrating experience, and I hope to find a resolution soon. If anyone has faced a similar situation or has advice, please share! #CustomerService #Frustrated #HealthCareExperience

The staff were extremely friendly and were very welcoming. Dr. Wu himself was very honest, knowledgeable and informative on what needed to be done, what the process was going to be like, post-operation procedures and generally just made me feel more comfortable about the whole thing because let's be honest, everyone feels nervous about getting their wisdom teeth removed because of all the horror stories. The whole operation itself felt super quick and easy. I mean I was knocked out the whole time because of the sedation but the whole thing felt like it took 15-20 minutes. And the good thing afterwards? I felt no pain at all. Throughout the next few days of recovery I was in no pain whatsoever. The only negative effect was the obvious swelling and soft diet you'll have to be on for a couple of days. If you need a good oral surgeon I would definitely recommend Dr. Wu!

He and his staff were very friendly, yet professional and made sure I was comfortable from the beginning. They provided me with educational materials about the procedure well ahead of time to make sure I was prepared for the appointment. I had heard so many horror stories about getting wisdom teeth extracted from my friends, but my experience was as good as it gets when it comes to getting wisdom teeth out! It only felt like I was asleep for a few minutes, and before I knew it I was awake and heading home. I was in no pain at all, only a little bit sore with minimal swelling, and didn't have to take any pain medications at all in the days after the procedure. I went back to work the very next day. I was contacted by the office the day after my procedure to ask how I was doing, which made me glad to know they cared about my well being. The stitches were dissolvable, and were gone within 2 weeks. I was healed up and back to eating whatever I wanted within 3 weeks. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the way my procedure and healing process went, and with Dr. Hishmeh's skill in the operatory. I would highly recommend Dr. Hishmeh to anyone needing any sort of oral surgery or extraction.

Weeks before a trip they're hurting again and I get referred to Dr. T and his team. When I told him about the trip he made it happen and I was able to get it done with ample time to heal. I was scared but everyone was so kind and honestly made me feel really assured. I've never gone under before but it truly felt like time travel. The ladies who prepped me were gentle and I fell right asleep and then it was done! I'm older so I was really scared about the recovery but they say if your surgeon is good you'll feel fine and twos days out I feel great! Barely any swelling and hardly any pain! I believe if I have any complications in the future I'll be taken care of here!

I had severe pain after the surgery, went back once to be dismissed with "yea it's going to hurt" and a second time a couple days later to find out I had an infection and dry socket (which I had to tell the doctor I had, rather than him asking me questions to figure out it was dry socket). I consistently felt like my concerns about my pain were being dismissed, I was not being treated with empathy or concern, and worst of all I felt like I had to fight to be heard. Maybe the infection and dry socket were just my own bad luck, but I do want to note I did everything by the book after the procedure during the healing period (did not use straws, did my washes, ate carefully, etc). Anyway I started a 7 day antibiotic treatment for the infection. After the 7 days, I expressed that I felt mostly better but still feel like there is an infection or that something is just not right and I'm still having pain, on my right upper tooth in particular, and he dismissed that saying "no it looks fine, yeah it'll hurt" and then just shrugged. Fast forward to today, I recently had a CT scan after a couple months of right-sided sinus pain and pressure (on the same side I expressed concern about) showing severe blockage and inflammation, likely due to that initial infection that had never cleared from the extraction. So it is frustrating to know I am now dealing with a longer term issue due to his dismissal of my concerns. An argument could be made that I should've came back when I started having sinus issues but in all honesty, he made me feel so dismissed, frustrated and uncomfortable I did not want to return to this clinic. Two stars however because the other staff who took care of me, such as on the day of my surgery and then to check me in during my post-op visits, were super super nice and friendly, and made me feel comfortable, and made sure I was informed. Unfortunately I forgot their names but I want to make sure to give credit where credit is due. I appreciated the transparency on how much everything would cost too.

Dr. Waxman too very good care of my teeth while I was a patient…read moreduring the spring of 2012. It meant a lot to me to find a specialist who was so caring, efficient and had a great staff. As a young, single woman, the procedures that I had were expensive, even with insurance, and I was glad that his office offered to let me split payments and work out arrangements. I even wrote this glowing review of your office on Yelp: "...after visiting his office a total of five or six times for follow ups, I can say that it's one of the best. Dr. Waxman is very nice and very gentle and very willing to explain things and make sure that you are not in pain..." I held his office in high esteem and, before January 2014, would have said that Ms. Laura Gonzales was a big part of why his office works so well. Laura was the person I interacted with the most to schedule appointments, make payments and discuss bills. She was always professional and even friendly. Until Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, when I had a very unpleasant phone exchange with an obviously exasperated Gonzales. She was rude from the get-go, telling me that I needed to pay approximately $122 immediately. I wasn't aware that I had a remaining balance, since I'd already paid the office so much while the procedures were being done and sending a couple of checks after the fact. (Another reviewer that Yelp "didn't recommend" had a similar experience with this office.) Gonzales was short with me when I asked if I could settle the bill for less, since I had been out of work for months. (Other providers have been willing to do this.) She offered to take off $22. I tried to negotiate more, asking her if she would accept 50 percent of the balance, and she snapped, huffed, cut me off, raised her voice and did everything but call me names. In short, she was rude. Very rude. She was nasty. She belittled. She was snarky. She threatened to send the bill to collections when I tried to explain that I couldn't pay $100 immediately. I asked to speak to someone else and she refused. Eventually, she hung up in my face. I called back and again asked to speak to someone else and she spit out, "I don't know what else you expect me to say!" I'm sure Gonzales has worked for this office for a while and that she was normally competent at her job. Before that phone conversation, I would have said that she was an asset to your office. I don't know if Gonzales was having a bad day, or if something was going on outside of the office, but $100 should never make a person act as rudely to another person as she was to me that day. I'm not arguing that I didn't owe money, or that I shouldn't be expected to pay the money. (I settled the balance over the next 4 months.) I'm arguing that the manner in which the money was collected was unnecessarily harsh, rude and dehumanizing.

I asked well why am I early, I'm told they changed my appointment to 10.00; however I was not informed. I'm told they will get with me soon in the mean time X-rays are taken and payment is requested while I have to wait. I'm called about 11:00. Then I'm called in for the extraction. Dr. Scott Kim comes in numbs my mouth and begans procedure. He pulling and tugging, I understand that this is a deep rooted tooth and that he has to watch not to damage the nerve. I can feel every tug, so he numbs me again. Leaves out and return. Starts procedure again pulling and tugging, his instrument slips, hits me on my front teeth, I yell out. He says it a little difficult I'm going to have to break it into two piece. He gets it out, my face swollen and I'm just glad it's over. I was in pain by the time I got home so I just took my medication and went to sleep. When I awoke I went to look at my teeth because that instrument hit kinda hard. Why my front tooth cracked. The next day when they called to check on me I told them that when I was hit with the instrument my tooth was cracked. They brought me in the next day took xray again. Dr. Kim comes in never shows me the xray, but takes pics of my tooth with his cell phone. Then tells me it was probably already cracked. It's a noticeable crack I look in my mouth everyday it was not cracked. Did not offer a solution. This man tells me not to worry about that tooth, keep watch on the tooth that was pull and if there is a problem give them a call. Just the fact you did not compare the two X-rays is telling. Don't go here he does not take accountability and almost pull my jaw off; that's how any why the instrument slipped. No bedside manners, showed no compassion. He says that he doesn't believe he was responsible because he did not work in the front of my mouth but you hit me with that instrument when it slipped. Warning find another oral surgen. I brought my son who is 16 and diagnosed with autism. I explained that he needed to be put asleep. Not only does he have anxiety, but he also suffers from PTSD. He does not have the ability to sit there while they extracted one of his front teeth that was already cracked in half. I explained that I have always had to sit in the room with him while at the dentist. As I am his mother and I can talk him through it and help keep him calm. She smirked and told me that she's not putting him to sleep because she not comfortable. She said she had to be able to communicate with her patients and that , "she's dealt with this kind of patients before they will be too disoriented when they wake up", and if she takes it out that's all she's doing". I asked her do they not put patients to sleep and do implants or just not patients with autism. I explained that his doctor and psychiatrist strongly suggested he be put to sleep. She told me it's about her comfort level. Do I want to stay or leave. Then she began speaking to me slow as if I didn't understand English. Saying you can stay or find another. Its about what I'm comfortable with. When it was time for him to get the procedure done. She didn't even allow me stay with him until his mouth was numb. She rudely said. "your not gonna stay back here there's not enough room. Bye mom" she said in a sassy rude way . I sat in the waiting area Heard my son holler out. Then I here them calling for staff help. She called 2 extra staff members in the room to help my son even though she said there was no room. She didn't call me back to help ease him or calm him down. Instead she called staff members that he didn't know and was unfamiliar with. Even though I explained the details of his autism diagnosis and PTSD. When I went back there she wasn't able to fully numb his gums she has only injected one part of his gum, but yet his mouth was bleeding. She just picked at his gums and left it bleeding. she seemed annoyed said I'm comfortable and walked away. Didn't take time to say anything to me. Just walked away shaking her head as I entered the room. This was the Worst experience I have ever encountered. She belittled me spoke to me as if she assumed I was uneducated and discriminated against my son. He had a terrible situation before coming in when he broke his front teeth. We came for support and relief. Instead she treated us as if we were not worthy to be treated like we irritated her. She told me she was uncomfortable I say incompetent. She wanted to take my sons tooth out while he was awake. Her reasoning was he will be disoriented, but aren't all patients disoriented when they wake from anesthesia. She also told me he has to be able to be responsive. Who is responding when they have been put to sleep. She was cruel unprofessional and discriminatory. I will never go back there, or recommend that place. The receptionist and dental assistants especially Sumpter was more professional and compassionate. They had respect for patience unlike the dentist.
